Cartref Guest House

We arrived at 21:45 so we were all tired but the staff were very nice and helpful even so late at night! They gave us a key code for the guest house in case we needed to go out. They provided a small package, including plasters, a shower cap, and some makeup. We had a lovely warm shower! Afterwards, we filled out a short amount of what we wanted for breakfast (there were millions of options!), and we fell straight asleep! There are lots of maps and countries on the wall! My favourite part was the feeling of luxury for such a good price!

All the little extras were a pleasant surprise. The bag of sweets. The hot water bottle which was not needed. Room comfortable. Love the decor. Quality bedding which is always a treat. Lovely big, fluffy bathrobe. A foot spa with spa salts. A selection of teas and coffee, a wide range of bathroom products. Very impressive. Even a great magasine on the bedside table to read. Couldn't ask for more. Melanie was the perfect host. Couldn't do enough for me. The guest house was easy to find with a map from the train station. The breakfast was quality, and plenty of it,

A blackout blind instead of a regular blind. It was late before it went dark enough to sleep. Then the light shone through the blind at 6 a.m. Which didn't affect me as I am an early riser.

Location good. Hosts very welcoming and helpful. Rooms were of a good size, Welcome bags a nice touch.

We had two rooms. The king room for 2 people was spotlessly clean except for a stain on the duvet cover (to be fair we didn't mention it to the owner, I meant to before we left but forgot). The bathroom on the triple room was not very clean around the shower. Also there were lots of bits of artificial greenery around the room which didn't really add anything and were a bit odd. We had a room only option and were offered two breakfast options, however, if you chose the breakfast option to eat in the dining room everything on the menu was £10.00 so as an example you could have a full english breakfast or beans on toast and either option was £10.00 each which again is auite strange. We didn't take up any of the breakfast options.

A great location. Very close to the city centre. Easy to find; especially when travelling by bike. Plenty of room in our ground-floor bedroom. Plenty of hot water for a good clean-up after a long day in the saddle. Very friendly couple (Graham and Melanie). Very helpful. Lovely breakfast. Just perfect for another day of cycling. The property has been tastefully renovated and decorated. I would highly recommend a stay here, and will certainly do so again when I next visit the area.

Just minor negative points. The room was quite stuffy for mid-June. Maybe some form of adequate ventilation or AC might have helped? Due to limitations with the availability of space in the room, the shower/WC was very 'cosy', and probably not suitable for larger guests. Overall though, these points didn't detract from the enjoyable time we spent there.

great property, bedrooms were clean and comfortable, loads of little extras, with bags of goodies, a little fridge, wine glasses etc. our room was en-suite, and really quite big. we were doing Hadrian wall walk and this is close to the second stamping station (sands centre - west to east, 5 mins walk), and into the town centre was 2 mins walk along the road for a few pubs and meal on the night. really pleased with our choice for the first stop. didn’t stay for breakfast as weather was bad and wanted to get an early start for leg 2 of our journey.

Lovely clean, well designed, went the extra mile and provided some toiletries and cookies and sweets as well as tea and coffee. Had a basin in the room even though the bathroom was down the hall which was nice.

The lights were always off down a long dark corridor with only a switch on the far side near the stairs. Was not told I had to turn on the electric shower outside the bathroom so I had to wrap a towel around myself; dirty and naked to try and work out how to get the shower to turn on. It was not a pleasant experience.

Perfectly located for central Carlisle. Be aware it is a townhouse so do t expect huge gardens and total silence. It is literally a two minute walk to the Lanes Shopping Centre and central district. The property is immaculate. With very high quality bathroom products (better than most hotels). Good Wi-Fi for working on, tea/coffee/cafetière with real coffee in the room. Perfect wake up. Great breakfast also.

Nothing for me it was perfect and already booked a return stay for work.

From the second I walked in I felt so welcome and comfortable. The room was full of treats to eat and so comfortable. I was given a lovely dressing gown and the breakfast was out of this world!! In fact I ended up leaving money in the room as there was no way they could have made the profit they deserve. One of the best B&Bs I've ever stayed in .

There was nothing to dislike

The room is quite big for us and there are loads of compliments given much more than normal hotels. We are provided with body lotions, ear plugs, detox water with lemon, jellies, sweets, sewing kit, foot massage tray, etc It's located near to both train station and centre. There are lots of cafe, pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Lots of parking spaces in the street beside the guest house.

It would be great if the water pressure in the shower was stronger. And please add detail information about the parking space and instruction in booking.com page. I couldn't find the detail about parking and were worried about where I should park my car. But after few message exchanges with the host, she explained the instructions very well and it's all sorted.

This was the perfect stopover for us in Carlisle. The room was clean and the beds were super comfy with a lot of thoughtful extras (from a robe to sweets) as well as good facilities. A lot of effort had been put into the styling too - apparently all the rooms are different, would love to see them all! You can order a cooked breakfast to have in the beautiful dining room, although we didn't do this. Contact free checkin is offered.

The room was so excellent, really not much to complain about at all. However, we were in the triple room on the ground floor and the window opened up into a storage area. This area had an external window, but you're not able to open it from within the room. External venting would be beneficial esp during the pandemic.
