The Shore

It was so easy to get to the North Isles ferry in the morning and I was able to check in to the Shore late from the Northlink Ferry from Aberdeen which got in to Hatston at 11pm I had a single room. The view out the window was the fire escape but the bed was very comfortable and there was a neat super clean en-suite. There was a cafetière and biscuits supplied. It was a single traveller’s haven!

The location was great. The room was very clean and comfortable. We actually had two rooms, and loved that children could have their separate room with two comfortable beds.

If I really need to find something negative about our stay it could be that the reception was in another building, and the ground floor of our building was looking a bit abandoned, but that didn't influence quality of our room.

The Kirkwall hotel has been renovated to a lovely standard. Very tastefully done. The staff were all really helpful, friendly and professional. Breakfast was really good, served in the dining room and their Covid system of pre ordering worked really well.

We were staying in the annex which was The Shore Hotel. We had a lovely big family suite with two bedrooms which was great but the only downside was how noisy the room could be early in the morning. Seemed to be a lot of noise when other bathrooms are in use and a generator type noise.

The room was very nice and there was plenty of room. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was really lovely.

we found someone else’s pill on the floor so I’m glad we saw it before the dog did. They also changed our room at the last minute from the shore to The Kirkwall hotel without an apology or explanation. There was no bath in a sweet and the Shore that I booked had a private entrance so we could take the dog out in the night for a wee. our hotel room, however, was in the second floor so not as good for us. Even after changing our room last minute they still charged and extra £20 for our dog.

We were upgraded to the Kirkwall hotel next door as the shore is under going a renovation. The hotel rooms are obviously recently renewed. Nicely decorated and beds comfortable. Nice touches like fresh coffee and cafetiers, good quality soaps and shampoos, shower was large and had a rainfall head. Bathroom is a little tight if you are a larger sized person. The bar area is lovely and restaurant serves decent local food. Breakfast is excellent but is an additional charge to the room rate ( not explained on arrival ).

It is very difficult to find information on booking .com about the breakfast option the shore's own website says inclusive but apparently the new owners ( the Kirkwall hotel) say they don't have access to change it !? Cost us an extra £100 for breakfasts, which came as a nasty shock. It is an excellent location and could be an excellent hotel if better communication was given on web site.

Lovely view over the bay. Coffee/tea available in the room. Very handy to everything.. Great shower. Very comfortable bed. Very clean and tidy facilities. Staff very helpful, particularly as we checked in late at night.

There was absolutely nothing to complain about

The Shore has been bought over by The Kirkwall Hotel and we were upgraded in to one of their newly refurbished rooms. The room was lovely with a great shower and comfortable bed. The restaurant is a really pleasant place to dine, but they really need a vegan menu, the choices are very limited.The vegan breakfast options could be improved too. The staff are really great, the young man on the front desk couldn’t have been more helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and would book again.

The staff were very helpful and friendly especially when we were transferred to the main building ie the Kirkwall hotel after a flood at the Shore. Both rooms were spacious and comfortable. The facilities at the Kirkwall hotel were excellent.

Staff were excellent. Very helpful. Breakfast was served in nearby hotel (recent takeover) and was excellent too. Access to a sitting room would have been a bonus.

Because of COVID, no cleaning of the rooms. We could request clean towels, toilet rolls etc. but I felt we could have been given clean sheets and bathroom wipes for our 10 day stay. Coffee etc available on request but not biscuits

We were a group of adult women staying in Kirkwall. We had one of the family rooms that worked out really well for us. Shower and amenities were good and perfect location for strolling around beautiful Kirkwall.
