Ferry Inn

location excellent, but car-parking a bit of a pain as one had to move the car every morning by 9.am or get locked in to paying for another 3 hours parking.

Very friendly and supporting staff. Had probably the room with the best view: one window directly in the opposite of the ferry terminal and pier/port and one roof window directly above my bed to watch the sky. Very near to bus station, ferry terminal and main street of Stromness. Very good scottish breakfast - I liked the salmon. The dinner in the restaurant of the hotel was good as well.

Most of the rooms are in a block behind the pub/restaurant you see when you come off the ferry but they are a good size with good showers, plenty of space for luggage, chargers and so forth. There is a laundrette in the ferry terminal. Proper breakfast served in the restaurant, which also does decent food in the evening - if you're staying any length of time in Stromness, it will be worth booking it.

There are few eating options in Stromness on Sunday and, especially, Monday so make sure you book something in advance or get something from the Co-op before it closes - it's a 5-10 min walk along the harbour road.

Couldn't find the drop off point for the keys on checkout ( it was early and reception wasn't open). Therefore I ended up just leaving the key in the lock for housekeeping to find. The 'double' bed was actually two twins joined together - this formed a hard ridge between the beds and made it uncomfortable to sleep in the middle of the bed. Windows opened directly onto a laneway and so didn't feel secure leaving them open during the day to let fresh air into the room.

Stayed here to have an easy place to rest at the end of a busy travel day by train, to Thurso and, finally, on the ferry from Scrabster to Stromness. The location right across from the ferry terminal proved to be excellent. The room was very spacious. The bathroom was modern, and up to standards. The bed was very comfortable. This hotel is not only in an excellent location for the ferry terminal, but also for exploring Stromness, one of Orkney’s cutest towns. The staff was really friendly and helpful, and allowed us to store our luggage for a couple of hours. The breakfast was good, and it was nice that the breakfast hours were quite flexible.

Excellent location, clean, comfortable room, lovely staff

Concerned about checkout,exit time 10.30 ,after breakfast returned to room at 9.45 to find belongings in hallway and room being cleaned.mentiomed this to staff member who told me that the cleaner probably thought we had already left!? I asked how could this be when belongings were still in our room, she then remarked maybe she was going to return belongings to the room after cleaning, which made no sense whatsoever.I remarked that anyone could have stolen belongings out on the landing (purse included) to which she replied don't worry everyone is honest here!!!

wish I knew it was the off season when I booked our stay. Nothing open - no cafes, no restaurants, no shops etc were open in Stromness other than the Ferry Inn bar. The room came with breakfast thank goodness and we found a Coop that sold some groceries. If I knew this was off-season I would have changed my plans.

Room was excellent, clean, bright and comfortable. All staff were very friendly and efficient nothing was too much bother. There are notices to say you should book for a meal, we visited September and one night we did not get in as we hadn't booked, our own fault. Food was excellent and of average price. I had lamb one night and it was melt in the mouth. We were in annex just behind the Inn which looked as if it had just been refurbished. Inn just across from ferry terminal and bus stop.

Kettle in room was in rather an awkward place but didn't spoil our stay.

Excellent bathroom, specially the shower. This was the main reason why we stayed, because our hotel in Thurso didn’t have hot water, so we decided to spend a night in Stromness, to finally take a hot shower. Beds very comfortable. Good heater. Fast Wi-Fi. Plugs in convenient places. Kettle, tea, coffee and biscuits in the room. Just in front of the ferry terminal. Staff very nice and helpful.

A bit noisy at night, but normal for a central location.
