This might sound like a cliche but walking into Horseshoecroft was like walking into our home. Our host opened the door with a great big smile, greeted us like long-lost friends. Then suddenly panicked, she had noticed my walking stick. I have Scoliosis and use it to steady myself, she started to apologise saying she would not have booked us if she had known. We were both perplexed until she explained that the stairs up to our room was a tight spiral bosons stair. She even offered to book us in somewhere else until we insisted that it would be all right I could manage for one night. While the stair was tight, it was well designed and gave me no problem, once at the top, we were shown to our room, A lovely, well-proportioned room with a great view out to sea. A big comfortable bed and a fantastic shower and bathroom completed the package. After a very peaceful night, we went down for breakfast, a truly hearty affair, full English with toast and all the trimmings imaginable. A little gem and an excellent start to our North Coast 500 trip.

There really was nothing at all to mention. Everything was spotless and worked, the atmosphere was so warm and freindy. As for the host, she could have not done any more for us if she tried.

Horseshoecroft is the near perfect Bed and Breakfast while on a road trip on the NC 500. We were initially a bit worried when we were driving to the property but once we entered, it exceeded our expectations. Louise ,the owner is a wonderful host who is always ready to help. The rooms and linen are extremely clean and the every room was done up really well. This is definitely one of the best properties we had stayed in our 10 day trip to the Highlands

Nothing to mention here

We arrived late at the B and B (6pm) as we expected to be a lot earlier. Louise greeted us with a big smile and asked us if we hungry. She arranged for us to eat at the local pub. We were lucky that she did as some people were turned away as it was rather busy. She saw that we had a lot of bags and asked if we needed any washing doing. The following day we had full day planned on the Isle of Orkney, so before going I left my washing with her. We came back and I couldn’t believe that she had not only washed our stuff but also ironed it. Every evening Louise would check in with us to see what we would like for breakfast. Every morning we had something different. Be warned the breakfast are HUGE. What I particularly liked is that as I am gluten free she had taken the time to provide me with gluten free bread and cereal which I thought was very thoughtful. The bed in our room was super comfortable, the room was spotlessly clean, with a beautiful en suite bathroom. The premises are located approximately five miles from John OGroats, so an ideal location to get the ferry to the Orkneys, and of course John OGroats. Louise is a lovely lady and super friendly. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. We left feeling well rested and FULL!!!

EVERYTHING!!! Wonderful warm welcome, beautiful location, amazing views, pillows and bed were the super comfortable, breakfast was the best we have ever eaten and Louise is the perfect host. We loved our stay and getting to know her. We had all we needed for an amazing stay and loved sitting outside with tea and cake kindly provided by Louise. Located ten mins away from John O’Groats and the same distance from a pub/restaurant.

We loved everything. The room was spotlessly clean, had a great ensuite and was extremely comfortable. There was a bedside light with usb chargers which I loved, just makes things easier doesn't it? The courtesy tray was super and the room was a good size with a super wardrobe and dressing table. Real attention to detail and the decor was beautiful. I wish I had been able to stay for more than one night. There is a lovely comfortable dining area (fabulous breakfast) and a super living area which is very bright with lots of natural daylight and it would have been great to have sat there and read if time had permitted.

We made a short stop at the Horseshoecroft for one night on our motorbike tour (clockwise) on the NC500. The B&B lies directly at the route, so it was very easy to find. Louise is a lovely host and we had everything we needed. She even reserved a table for us at the Village Inn for dinner. The room has a stunning view across the hills and coast and was sparkling clean. The breakfast is fabulous! We couldn’t finish all, but we had Haggis to try for the first time.

The WiFi did not work very well, because it’s an old house, but that’s very minor as we did not need it really.

Louise was a remarkable hostess. From our messaging with her a couple of days before our stay, right till our arrival and our departure, she has made us feel very comfortable and warmly welcomed. The bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms were very clean and such a delight to stay in and use, with little touches here and there which speaks of the attention and care of Louise to little details that brings out the best in the property. We were throughly blown off by the location of the property in the windswept plains just overlooking the sea … figuratively. The pastoral scene of sheep and lambs, cattle and calf gracing on the pastures is a picture out of a book. Louise has made sure that we have dinner appointment at a nearby restaurant in this rather remote area though we have arrived late past time. The add-on breakfast was lavishly furnished, though we are just about the only family in this bed & breakfast. I thoroughly recommend Louise and her property at Horseshoe Croft to any holiday makers travelling that area, or the NC500.

All’s said there is none. Safe a very very minor fault in the bathroom ceiling light, to which Louise and her husband attended to with aplomb. For this, she has waived the charge on breakfasts, with much remonstrations from us of course.

The Horseshoe Croft is an absolute gem to be found right by the side of the North Coast 500 route. The reception is welcoming, the accommodation is spotless, spacious and homely and the bed was so comfortable. Breakfast is excellent. There is everything you could possibly need, and yet Louise goes further in making your stay the best you could expect. Can’t recommend it enough.

Louise is a fantastic host. The Croft is much more handsome than the pictures show. We stayed in the upstairs room with a magnificent view of the North Sea. The shower was very good with plenty of hot water.

The upstairs room does have sloped ceilings, which might be difficult for a tall person. There are few options for dinner in that area, so reservations are needed.
