Samesun Ocean Beach

Location is perfect, it's literally two blocks from the beach. Staff is friendly and helpful. The facilities are very very clean for a hostel, probably one of the cleanest hostels I've visited.

All rooms need lockers that can at least fit a person's laptop into it. I was shocked when I couldn't fit my, and extremely nervous about how that meant I couldn't lock up my laptop during my stay. The beds were also extremely creaky, so even on the top bunk, I could literally feel every time the person below me shifted at all. The hostel also doesn't really organize activities. There are a handful throughout the week, but most of the time there is nothing, and certainly not much compared to other hostels I have visited.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!! Can’t be beat. I have to say that I do miss the old ownership of USA… It is now Samsun, and unfortunately it’s not quite the same. I especially miss the cozy living room that USA would hostess us visitors with. It felt cozy and warm during my last several visits there. Now there’s no place to congregate which is warm come the cooler evenings. They have heaters but they’re very stingy with putting them on, even though I had asked a couple times. The kitchen was extremely clean as well as the dorms. I especially loved the receptionist, Kenda. She went above and beyond to make sure I had a lower bunk which I needed because of a recent surgery. I am not sure how long ago Samsun bought this property, but I hope that they bring it back up to par like when USA owned it because this place really is a jewel 💎

Location is perfect, 3 minutes to the beach, lots of bars and restaurants all around, a grocery store opposite of the hostel, a target 5 minutes away, beach+sea is nice and calm, lots of nice and calm paths to walk around on, bus station is nearby, hostel has lots of equipment like surf boards, volley balls, etc. The people at the hostel were also great. Overall excellent. Hostel is clean. Coffee and mandarines in the morning were great, too.

The breakfast was okay, Eggo waffles aren't my favourite. Quiet time is at 11pm, which might be too late for some people but was okay for me.

The staff were super friendly and hospitable, they ensured everyone abided by the rules. They were super chilled and helpful. There was free breakfast which is also a bonus. In the kitchen, there is cutlery, pots and pans, free tea, fridges to store your food. I was super hesitant at first as a i am a clean freak but the cleanliness was impeccable, the bathrooms and communal areas were constantly cleaned and maintained. Great atmosphere! I was worried the nights may be loud but complete opposite. All the guests were super respectful. The beds were clean and comfortable. Sooooo much restaurant/bar options on the street. the location is phenomenal, right up the street from the beach.

It's on a great street with lots of cool & colourful independent bars and shops (good value, inexpensive, with some live music or stand up nights) and just a really good vibe that you sense immediately on arrival. Right on the beach, full of surfers and people just hanging out. On Wednesday they have a farmers market along the whole street - great food, and also random quirky buskers etc. At the same time it isn't a super touristy spot (not a lot of other hotels/hostels around), feels more where all the liberal locals go. The Hostel is perfect if you want to meet people and socialise. Obviously it may vary but for me I stayed there 3 nights and got talking to lots of different people each night, & joined various for a drink / walk to sunset / downtown bar trip. But also never found it over loud for sleeping (the social space is all on the back patio, outside - my room was on the front side of the building). Free and easy parking on the street. 5min drive from Seaworld and the other theme parks, 20/30min drive into central. Shared bathrooms were all clean and in good condition. No issue with the bed. All as shown in the pictures.

I loved this hostel, it's clean, well structured and equipped. I have been there for two nights (extending one) the beds are comfortable, it's very clean, there is a sink in the bedroom which is handy to brush your teeth or wash your face without going out of the room. The bedroom had a fan to make sure it was not too hot. All the beds had a privacy screen, with a light and some plugs for charging electronics. They offer surf board rentals for really cheap and you can take free towels for the beach, or freesbee or balls to play. The common area is half covered and half outside with a corner for smokers. In the morning they offer breakfast, pancakes/waffles, some fresh fruit, oatmeal, coffee or tea. The area is super nice and they have many shops and restaurants on the same street, and the ocean is 3 minutes walking distance.

The only downside is that it's not possible to park overnight in front of the hostel.

This hostel was much better than I had expected - really great value for money, in my opinion. I stayed in a 6 bed women's only dorm - each bunk had a little screen/wall at the head of the bed for some privacy, with a little shelf for personal items and a power outlet. The kitchen was large and there was plenty of fridge / food storage space, with a microwave and kettle and tea bags for general use. The rooms were pretty good in terms of noise insulation; even if it was dinner time and there was a lot going on in the kitchen / common areas, once you shut the door, it was fairly quiet. Bathrooms were kept clean, and only really had to wait for a shower during peak times in the evening.

I liked everything, to be honest.

Location was terrific for surfers, and lots of shops, restaurants and some fun activities in the area. Very pretty decorations, clean, spacious hang-out areas, large women's only bathroom. Pretty far out of downtown for sightseeing there, but I didn't mind; bus to train was easy and cheap. Breakfast was great for a hostel with Aussie bite bars, two kinds of fresh fruit, cereal, waffles, peanut butter.... Lots of fridge space (1 cooler in the kitchen, 1 cooler in the nearby lounge area).

Wish the smoking area was more enclosed/separate. Couldn't really hang in the sunny part of the outdoor area w/o smelling lots of smoke. Bummer. Rooms are small - no wasted space there!

Friendly people both staff and hostel dwellers. Bars a bit cheaper than LA with proper pints and free entry. Good competitive yet friendly welcoming pool playing at bars just up from the beach.. Winstons club had a truly great band playing with large group of banging musicians and multiple happening vocalists, great after a skin full of Hazy IPA, makes you dance on the wind, you just don't want it to stop...

If you do not like Ocean Beach and the Samesun Hostel there then you should give up backpacking...Banging music at Ocean Beach

The general vibe is just great. Unlike some of the hostels in the US, in this one everyone is chatting with everyone and there is a great atmosphere. Apart from that the location is really good. I had a car and was usually 15 min away from everything - beaches, downtown, etc. The common areas are also quite cute and the hostel is overall confortable and clean. Staff is really nice :)

In some of the rainy days it would've been nice to have had somewhere a bit nicer to hang out. There was a covered carp but that area wasn't very confortable, maybe some new decoration or so to make it more inviting :) I also stayed in one room for one night right next to the kitchen that was absolutely aweful. Strong smell, two vents that had to be on as the windows didn't open. That room in my opinion is not fit to have people. But the staff changed me rooms when I brought it to their attention so it was fine in the end!
