The Shoal Hotel La Jolla Beach

The location was amazing, close to town but not too close. 5 minutes walking distance from the beach was the selling point for me and did not dissapointed. The pool was great. I was surprised of how thought out every detail was for a “basic” hotel. They lend us beach towels and chairs. The room was spotless and the staff was super helpful. The water pressure was great, everything was new and remodeled. Soap, shampoo, conditioner where good quality and there was a hair dryer too which I wasn’t sure there was going to be. Also convenient to have a microwave in the room.

The one BIG issue for me was the sliding door to the bathroom. It’s like basically not having a door. I just was too self conscious to go to the bathroom knowing that my husband could hear everything. This really ended up being annoying. I know some people don’t care but I’m more of a private person haha. I wish they would change the doors it would make this place perfect. The other detail but one I can live with is that the ac is pretty loud so at night it woke me up when it turned on. I don’t care that much but if you are a light sleeper it can be annoying. I would go back again even with these details cause everything else was great :)

it was a nice quiet and clean facility. the room was small but had everything we needed. Staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel looked to be recently remodeled so everything was fresh looking which was nice.

There were only minor things that wouldn’t have effected our stay. There was no maid service so no fresh towels delivered to room each day, which was fine but there was only one towel hook to hang towels. I kept losing the Wi-Fi signal so if I had been using it for work that would have been frustrating.

The newly remodeled room looked beautiful. Bathroom was awesome. It was very close to beach and restaurants which were quite good. Exceptional breakfast coffee shop right next door.

We were supposed to check in one hour early at 2pm, but couldn’t get room till after 4pm. Then they didn’t allow us our late checkout because someone was “coming right in” at 11:30am. We left stuff at desk and when we came back at 2:30pm our room was just being cleaned. Nobody waiting “to get in”. I even offered to pay extra for more time. They basically lied.

The Shoal was close to the beach and close to several restaurants that were very good. We explored the San Diego area by car during the day, but we walked to the awesome beach early mornings to watch the surfing and late evenings to watch the sunset every day while we were there. Our room at the Shoal was large, comfortable, clean and safe.

The parking lot filled up late in the evening so if we were late coming in parking could be difficult. Getting to the 2nd floor by stairs was difficult with luggage.

The rooms were tastefully decorated and the bathroom had a nice walk in shower. Pool area was nice but a little small. It was really nice to have a simple breakfast provided in the common area. Good parking right on site for $10.

Location is slightly out of the central La Jolla town but if you like walking, it is only about 10 minutes into town. There was a slight 'sewer' smell coming from the bathroom sink drain.

I loved how kind one of the people working at the reception was! Unfortunately I did not get a chance to ask for her name, but that smile and kindness made my stay there! The room are super clean, all renovated, it still has a bit of the motel vibe because the windows are on the balcony where everyone walks, but this is part of the structure and nothing to do with the hotel itself. The location was great, you could literally walk to one of the cutest beach, but far away from the crazy tourist area.

The facilities were so clean and well taken care of! The beds were so comfortable and you can’t really hear your neighbors unless they’re partying. The staff will text through their system and arrange checkouts if you have an early checkout and also if the room needs serviced. They also have great recommendations on food and sites in the area. Also, walking distance to Windan Sea.

Parking was difficult/confusing to maneuver. Sometimes spaces weren’t always available if you get back to the property too late. Only compact car parking spots in the very back of the hotel, but I was driving a highlander. If you have a smaller car, you shouldn’t have a problem.

Amazing location warm greeting extra effort by staff meeting my personal request. Rooms are well designed beautiful in color choices I’m a coffee person loved the choices I was offered in my room. One of the most outstanding feeling I left with was that I got a great night sleep because of the calmness at this amazing place and I understand it may of been fully booked. My only regret is that I had to leave so soon I am very much looking forward on my next visit, I made sure to take some business cards home with me to pass on to family and friends.

Staff were absolutely fantastic - so kind and helpful, I'd go so far to say the most helpful and polite of our 2 month travels of the USA :D Room was beautiful and bed was mega comfy

Water pressure - the shower was just a drip Pool and jacuzzi could be modernised I think

Staff was super friendly and helpful. They had a water machine in the main lobby which always makes me happy - and fresh coffee! The location was GREAT! Lots of yummy places to eat near by and so close to the water!

It was definitely noisy when people were talking outside or walking above us. Bring white noise or download an app. We were also on the main level so felt we couldn't keep our blinds open as there were sometimes people walking by.
