James Buchanan Hotel

We loved the rich history of this Hotel. Our stay was unfortunately too brief to really take it all in, so we’d like to make a return visit! The garden seemed exceptional, and we’d love to spend some time relaxing there and at the bar. Staff was very helpful.

The overhead lights and the mattress could use a little updating.

The James Buchanan Hotel is a trip into the past. When you walk into the entrance, you'll see the lobby on the left, stairs to the rooms directly ahead, and a door to the adjoining restaurant/bar. The lobby set the tone with it's lit fieldstone fireplace, comfortable vintage style furniture and an old black and white movie playing on a TV in the back of the room. I was shown to my room which I've never experienced before. Everything had an antique look, making the TV almost look out of place. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The room and bathroom was very clean and we'll maintained. Overall, this was an extremely memorable and pleasant experience. This part of the state is absolutely beautiful and I'm planning on coming back when I have more time and plan on staying here again. One last parting statement - the bath towel was by far the softest, thickest towel I have ever used in all my 56 years...

My only disappointment was that there was no refrigerator, but given the antique vibe, I can't say I was surprised

Nice location and good restaurant

On the main road in town and on this Saturday night there was considerable traffic racing loudly on the road until close to midnight. Amazing that the police station was two blocks away and this was allowed!

Peter (the owner) is so easy to communicate with via text. The whole vibe of the hotel is very cozy and comfortable-more along the lines of a bed and breakfast. The bed and shower were both great. The chocolate in the room and small breakfast in the morning was an added bonus! We skied at white tail (about 10 minutes away) and then had an incredible dinner with drinks in the pub located on the first floor of the hotel. Super intimate and beautiful restaurant. Highly recommend to anyone in the area needing a place to crash after a day of skiing.

The hotel was charming, clean, and cozy, and there were nice touches (chocolate bar on the pillow, nice toiletries in the bathrooms, etc.). Breakfast was simple but good, given the COVID-19 restrictions. Location was great for skiing Whitetail and very centrally located in Mersersburg, PA.

Facilities were somewhat limited (no minifridge in the room) and the innkeeper seemed to have some difficulty consistently covering his nose with his mask. Price seemed a little steep, but perhaps this was due to it being a holiday weekend.

Everything! There is history everywhere inside the hotel and even sitting quietly in the bedroom or lounge area, evokes thoughts or what these walls have seen and heard over the last 200 plus years!

There is nothing NOT to like. The staff is amazing, great bar and restaurant, and the location is perfect for a stroll around the beautiful town itself.

A place where history meets luxury. A place one can step into history yet experience all the finer things. The rooms are luxurious. You want to sleep in the beds and never get up. You feel at home yet gives you the desire to adventure. A place you can travel back in time while feeling you at home and have a story.

I loved every aspect of this property.

the location and history of the property was great

The loud street noises and inability to dim the room because there are no dark curtains. The shower water was hard to adjust to the right temperature due to being very old style.
