I like staying in old hotels that have kept most of their heyday charm. The room was fairly large for an older hotel and the bathroom was what I find on other older hotels which was small. It was a little cramped in there but it was fine. When booking a room at an older hotel you have to temper your expectations but here, it was much better than I expected. There are good places to eat withing walking distance.

Other comments said that there was dust under the beds so I looked, Not only was there dust but there were ear plugs there as well still in their wrappers. You would think that by now management would read these comments and have staff sweep under the beds, That shouldn't be something hard to accomplish.

Hotel is historic and well-maintained, and right in the middle of most of what we wanted to be part of in Alpine (restaurants, murals, etc.). Room was nice, they had a small refrigerator and a microwave and a small coffee pot. No breakfast (although there was free coffee and some snacks) or lunch--there are several decent places for both close by--but their bar and restaurant (dinner service) were very, very good. Drinks and meals were very reasonable, and we had several exceptional dishes. We are getting a vacation place in Alpine and will stay at the Holland again!

We loved the vintage, restored historical feel of this old hotel. Nice old sitting area with fireplace and a nearby billiards room for relaxing. The room was large and very clean and comfortable. The staff were very nice and helpful. We couldn't get into the restaurant (no reservation on a busy Friday) but ate in the bar. Food was wonderful and the bartender (Carlos) mixed us up some amazing cocktails. Parking was fine in an adjacent parking lot; though the spaces were small there were plenty of space and it was reasonably lit at night.

The train that sounded like it came through the room at about 5:30 in the morning. However, overall we really liked this hotel and would certainly stay there again.

Loved the history of Hotel and the town. It was clean and comfortable. Everything in walking distance. Restaurant food was very good. Had specialty drinks and they were awesome.

The hostess at restaurant seemed put off that we did not have reservations to the restaurant and told us it would be after 8pm or later before we could sit down. When we said we just checked in and was not aware of needing reservations and we needed to eat sooner. We turned around, and then she said there was an available table in bar. I know she was working hard, but could have told us that to begin with. The waitress in the bar was great. Remember to make reservations to eat in there lovely restaurant.

Great location (with one caveat). Great atmosphere. Comfortable and clean room.

I liked the location except that, being located directly across from the train station, the train blared it’s horn while passing through at all hours of the night. In the plus side, the hotel provided ear plugs in the room…an explanation of why at check in would have helped. It was only a mild inconvenience to me though, and did not detract from the many positives about this property. I’m also not sure that other hotels in town don’t have the same problem in varying degrees.

Great historical hotel centered in the middle of Alpine Texas making many restaurants and other amenities readily accessible by foot. Extremely courteous, friendly, and helpful personnel. The lobby fireplace, pool room, and wall decor is breathtaking. Sitting by fireplace with complimentary local newspaper and available coffee in morning was very nice.

Since it's old some things are not to the same standard as newer hotels. For example, in our room there was peeling wallpaper, no handles on door between living room suite and bedroom (making it impossible to fully close door), and a "popped" screw on threshold that catches your foot when going between those two rooms. Reported to front desk and I'm confident they'll be repaired. Parking lot is extremely compact, void of parking stripes and with only one entrance very difficult to maneuver. My car was damaged by another guest to on-site bar the second night we were there.

Hotel location and parking was very convenient. Hotel and room felt like stepping into the Old West of Texas. Located right in the center of town and restaurant/bar was attached. Food was fantastic.

I was not given the internet password at check-in. As this is a more of a boutique hotel the desk closes early with a phone number to call for assistance. I had to go to the lobby and find a person who could provide the password to me after having had settled in to relax in my room. Also, although it contributed to the feel of being in a Texas "old west" town built around railroad access, the train blew it's warning whistle through town - at any hour. This was not a major problem, and the hotel had provided ear plugs for use while sleeping if you are sensitive to the noise interruption. (Any hotel in town would have this experience.)

Very cool design and style… you can see the similarities between The Holland, The Gage Hotel in Marathon, and the Paisano in Marfa - all done by the same architect. Clean facility, everything worked fine in the room. Having the Century Bar & Grill located in the hotel is icing on the cake… great food.

The parking lot has narrow spacing, so more than a few hotel and restaurant patrons double park there on a regular basis; it’s frustrating.

Did not have breakfast but the Bar and restaurant were very good. We had dinner there and food and service was very good. The room was fine, although the room fridge was either not working or not plugged in.

I would add the ability to purchase soda or snacks in the lobby area. I usually grab a soda or two and maybe a late snack when travelling and these were not available, Also, because I expected my business meeting to run a bit late I asked for a 12:00 pm checkout and was advised it would be a $50 charge to check out ONE hour later than normal. Business meeting schedules cannot always be controlled and this seemed a bit excessive.

I got a great rate with Booking.com, but when the pet fee was added it brought it back up to "more than I usually pay for lodging". Many folks at the hotel mentioned how pet-friendly you are, but $30 per pet per night is pretty steep (I had 2 dogs both under 20 lbs.); and though I loved the atmosphere I am very conscientious of getting my pups outside to "do their business" and it got a little complicated what with the elevator and having to walk through the lobby before we could get outside. Maybe reconsider your pet rate and I'd stayed again anytime.
