This is an absolutely beautiful hostel. You feel like you’re staying in the trees. The staff there are lovely, Tim, the owner, is so helpful with booking tours and helping to organise an extension on your stay when you inevitably decide you can’t leave just yet! The kitchen has lots of utensils and everything you’d need. There is hobs, a microwave and an air fryer for cooking. No oven, but I didn’t feel I needed it because of the air fryer. The kitchen was clean, people were very respectful with doing their washing up and cleaning up after themselves. The bathrooms were also clean, there were 3 showers dotted across the hostel so usually you can find one to use even when it’s during busy times in the morning or evening. The toilets are separate, so you don’t need to worry about all of the bathrooms being taken up by people showering. The outside area is such a lovely environment. There is a BBQ area, lots of areas to relax and chill out. A very cute little pool that is open until 9pm. The staff often play gentle quiet music during the day around the pool, which just makes the space feel even nicer. The rooms themselves are so adorable. I stayed in both the 5 bed and the 4 bed dorm on different occasions and both are lovely. The girls I shared with were fun and welcoming, it felt like a very cute girly experience sharing a room with them. There are no bunkbeds so it feels really spacious. People are quiet and respectful with noise. This is the perfect place to stay if you’re like me and didn’t want to be in a party hostel but still like the idea of meeting friendly people. I made 5/6 new friends here, which made the whole experience even more fun, but you can also quite happily exist on the solo, and everyone will be friendly either way! I would highly recommend staying here, don’t look any further!! I would come back in a heartbeat!!! Thanks for a great stay Tim!! :)

Some plugs by the beds would be great. There's one main set of plugs in the middle of the room that everyone's has to share, so make sure to bring an adapter. But honestly it wasn't a big deal at all!!

The whole feel of Dreamtime is exactly how the name implies, a dream. It was small enough to be a home away from home but big enough to allow socialising on an evening. The pool was lovely and cool after the hot days.

The plug sockets in the bedrooms weren’t near the rooms so I had to charge my portable charger up then have that by the bed for alarms etc. The extension lead also could not fit all five girls adaptors.

I liked that the hostel was located far enough from the city centre, but by no means too far. The hostel has a nice homely vibe with plenty of facilities, the place is kept very tidy, and you can see the effort that is put into maintaining a high standard by Paul the owner, and staff. Check-in and out was effortless and pleasant, the bed was comfy, ceiling fan and air-conditioning available, there are individual toilets and showers nearby to each set of rooms, including multiple kitchens. You have a BBQ with outdoor seating next to the pool surrounded by tropical plants and trees, the people the hostel attracts are of a friendly sociable nature. You don't need much more than that at a hostel. I'm glad I followed my intuition and stayed here. Dreamtime is absolutely fantastic! My recent stay was nothing short of perfect, largely thanks to Tim who goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome and cared for. His dedication truly enhances the experience. The cleanliness and organization of everything are impeccable, ensuring a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. I can confidently say that I'll be back very soon. Dreamtime provides everything you need, whether it's a peaceful escape or a base to explore the city. It's a haven where you can unwind and recharge. Thank you, Tim, and the Dreamtime team, for creating such a wonderful retreat!

Absolutely nothing.

Nice to hang out, kitchen well equiped, comfortable bed, quiet and good location (it takes you some time to walk to the beach but you‘re directly at the rail station and close to grocery stores, some museums and a market). Amazing host, who‘s very friendly, accomodating, available and helpful. Given that I arrived at midnight and there was room left, he upgradet me to a single bed dorm so as not to disturb the others sleeping in the dorm already.

I was staying there twice and the upper bathroom/room were amazing (room 19s) but staying the second time on the lower floor (room 5) the room and bathroom had an odd smell to it. I‘m not sure whether it‘s due to the fact that it‘s harder to air there.

This hostel feels like a real home rather than a sterile dorm for the masses. There’s lots of common areas that are well equipped and decorated, inviting you to spend time there. There’s 2 kitchens that are fully equipped and clean. The rooms are very cosy and everyone has their own single bed. With all the windows and the fans you don’t even need the AC. The bathrooms are clean and spacious. Late check-in was super easy as well.

The only thing I can think of is that the plugs are in the middle of the room and not right at each bed. There’s also only one shower and toilet for upstairs so you might have to wait for your turn to use them.

Super friendly staff, convenient location, nice rooms. There is a mini fridge in the room as well. The whole venue is clean and tidy. It’s a quiet place, ideal for those who want to relax. Nice pool where to chill during hot days. I extended my stay because I feel like at home. Would recommend 100%. Best hostel I’ve ever stayed in.

Poor WiFi connection in my room which was far from reception, but 4G is working good.

This was the best hostel we stayed in in Australia! The staff were great, really helpful and always around to ask any questions, the room was really nice and very comfortable, kitchens were well equipped and plenty of bathrooms. There was so many common areas to sit and relax which was so nice, they hadn’t crammed in too many rooms so it just felt really peaceful and relaxing to stay

The only thing is having to pay for air con, but the room wasn’t too bad with just a fan anyway so not a big deal

We had such a lovely stay at Dreamtime. The staff were all so helpful and friendly and booked us onto some amazing tours near Cairns. Kitchens were well equipped and always clean. Bathrooms were lovely and clean. Our room was perfect for what we needed. It was such a lovely atmosphere, very chilled and calm. Perfect location, right by Cairns central and just a very short walk to everything in Cairns. We would highly recommend Dreamtime!

Nothing - we loved everything about Dreamtime!

The staff member, Tim, texted me to check my time of arrival and was pleasant and thoughtful during my stay. The room was clean, spacious, had plenty of hooks for clothes and even a fridge. The kitchen was close by with hot water, cutlery and mugs. Cairns Central was a very quick, 5 minute walk away with supermarkets, shops and a cinema. The hostel is on the quiet side of the shopping centre, so there was very little noise at night. The hostel was very clean and I was impressed by the job another staff member did in the morning as he cleaned the facilities.

I didn't realise you had to pay for air-conditioning, but it was only $1 for 3 hours, and they give you $2 to start you off. In a sense, it's a way to curb unnecessary electricity use, but if you stayed for longer than a few days in summer the cost might climb.
