Ease of use of facilities. Kitchen is open 5:30-11pm which is reasonable times. Showers open all night which is great. The room has aircon! I went during one of the hottest times of year (unknowingly) and I was very grateful for the aircon. There is housekeeping daily at 10am which is a nice feature. Staff are very friendly. I wish I could have had a drink at the bar during my stay but I had extreme heatstroke. Would definitely love to come back and regardless of the heatstroke I had an excellent time here. Highly recommend Port Douglas. Lovely stay.
Kitchen fridge is way too packed. Would be good if you guys used a system where you let everyone know on the fridges that food will be thrown out at a certain date to keep leftover bags from over spilling since there is a lot of food bags there and I’m sure a portion of those are not being used. There has to be a better system than that.

Pool area is great to cool off in the heat and lots of areas to relax and chill. Big kitchen area for cooking which is cleaned regularly. Fridge in the room was great. Easy to get to 4 mile beach and into town. Free parking and staff friendly and helpful. Aircon in room and showers were powerful. Good value compared to other prices in the area.
There is definitely something living in the roof, likely a possum. It didn't matter to us we made a joke out of it and put our ear plugs in at night. The WiFi wasn't working - but this is due to the cyclone so can't complain.

The staff at Dougies are incredible. They all have such a positive attitude, super helpful when booking or telling you about things in the local area. Kitchen was well equipped and outside pool and seating area is very nice. Shower were nice, had hot water and good pressure. Beds were fairly comfortable and had loads of storage for luggage.
Only thing is that there is a bug/rodent issue in the kitchen as it is open to the outdoors. So if you are putting food on the shelfs provide make sure that the bag does up so nothing will get into it.

I visited Port Douglas to do my 88-day visa extension, and ended up staying at Dougies for the whole 3 months. This is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in, and I've been travelling for 8 years. The staff were super friendly, really helpful and always on hand for everything you need. The pool was lovely, the long term room was really nice and the aircon was definitely needed! Shared kitchen and bathroom both cleaned every day and I never had any issues with either. Sometimes, they held parties here but the music stopped at midnight, so even if you were in work early the next day this wasn't ever a problem. Laundry machines $4 each for wash and dry, standard pricing. Hostel bar had a happy hour with $9 beers which I highly recommend!
Maybe 15 minute walk to the centre, but I bought a bike within my first 2 weeks so this wasn't a problem for me. Sometimes when its too hot the walk could get uncomfortable, but there's nothing they can do about this. E-sccoters are available right next door too

I love that place! I slept in high maintenance hotels and low budget places, but this place is exceptional for a nature lovers! If you like to hear the forest when you sleep and be surrounded by nature and friendly people while having a drink on a lounger, you must visit this camp. After few nights I drove over 100km to get to Dougies again, because I liked it so much. Higly recommend!

Really wonderful team, makes you feel at welcome and at home right away. Chill atmosphere, easy to get in contact with people if you like or stay by yourself if you prefer.
A battery socket right by the bed would be cool. But everything is there somewhere in the room essentially.

The ambience was really cool, the staff really kind and the place was beautiful. Very jungle but clean ambience with a good room and facilities
Maybe too noisy, specially during the week. In the weekend is normal, but for a week day the music was probably. A little bit loud and the bar maybe should not be opened beyond 10 p.m. during the week.

the scenery was exceptional with lots of gardens to admire. the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. I stayed in the tents with a broken humorous and I was as comfortable as I could be under the circumstances and the staff and people staying here were so caring and genuine.
there was nothing not to like, I will go back there again when I stay in cairns from now on. I was staying in a highly recognised hotel in cairns and my experience there was awful mostly because the rooms were putrid and not clean. the staff were lovely enough but didn’t follow through on what they said they would do, here at dougies my experience was exceptional and the food to was delicious and very reasonable.

The moment I arrived I was greeted with warm smiles from the staff, certainly something that was needed after my bags never arrived with me on my flight. They went above and beyond for the whole three days making sure I was taken care of: - Alerting all staff to keep an eye out for the arrival of my bags (which never came 😑) -Blocking off the twin room due to me not having the essentials like sleepwear to keep covered if I did need to share 😅 Besides my bag issue, the place itself felt like a resort! Well maintained, the atmosphere and tranquillity of the place were therapeutic. It had everything you needed at such a cheap price! I will not forget my time here and will be coming back again with family and friends. Thanks again to all the staff who helped. I truly appreciate your sincerity ❤ Anyone who is considering, do yourself a favour and just book 😉

Loved the layout of the hostel. Great for socialising yet possible to go to bed early without being kept awake by the bar. Possibility to rent a bike (2 dollar an hour)
The kitchen was bad; little/overflowing storage options for your food. (the fridges where like a losing tetris game) Location: 20 minute walk from centre
