Staff are amazingly helpful and friendly, kitchen facilities are the best I’ve seen in a hostel so far and kept pretty clean! Easy to walk to the train or downtown in general.

Mixed room ended up being entirely male (plus me) for the entire time, I guess I should have expected that but it would have been nice to have privacy curtains or something. We had a fan that worked for a little while but someone kept turning it off in the night so it was just too hot when you were trying to sleep! Not ideal.

This hostel literally made my trip! The staff is really kind, friendly and ready to help you with any needs. And although I may have gotten lucky, people in my room where awesome. Everything is very clean and works as expected.

Well, it's downtown, so although it is a very nice location to help you move around the city, there are still lots of drug addicts near the area. I felt very safe but still it's kind of a weird view if you are not used to it.

I booked two nights but needed to move to another room even though there was nobody in my room. I did not understand why i needed to move. Shower room was not easy to use. There is nowhere to put my clothes. Room was noizy and not be able to sleep well which can not be expected because it's "hostel". If the price would be cheaper, going to be satisfied more.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. I appreciate that the bedding and all the common places were kept clean. Also the location is very central.

It would be a plus If each bed had a charger for the phone in reach. This is something that I have seen when I stayed at other HI hostels in Alberta. Although the location is very convinient, there were a lot of homeless in the vicinity of the hostel, which made a solo traveler like me fell a bit uncomfortable.

HI Calgary City Centre Hostel exceeded my expectations in every way! From the moment I arrived, the friendly and helpful front desk staff made me feel at home. Their hospitality truly stood out and set the tone for a fantastic stay. The location is unbeatable, conveniently near the tram station, making it easy to explore the city. The hostel itself is well-maintained and provides a comfortable and quiet stay. The reading room is an excellent spot to unwind, offering a peaceful atmosphere that I appreciated after a day of sightseeing. Cleanliness is clearly a priority here, as the toilets and common areas were spotless. The addition of pool tables was a fun touch and a great way to socialize with fellow travelers. Breakfast was another highlight – hearty and delicious, perfect for fueling up for the day. Plus, having tea and coffee available 24/7 was a thoughtful perk. Freezing weather

This is the best hostel I have ever stayed at. I have been to other hostels, but their hygiene was only average. However, the hygiene here—whether in the rooms, kitchen, or bathrooms—was exceptional and consistently clean whenever I used them. Moreover, I really appreciate their efforts in collecting used clothes for donation. It’s such a thoughtful initiative! There is a supermarket close to the hostel, just about a 5-minute walk away. The common area is cozy.

The hostel provided excellent services. Some people might be concerned about street sleepers staying near the area. However, you can choose to take an alternate route and keep a distance from them. At night, the nearby streets are quiet with very few people around. Despite this, I still felt safe. Occasionally, you may hear traffic noise from outside the hostel. However, I was not bothered by the sound and still slept well.

Superb location! It's at the very heart of Calgary, so it means it's super close to walk to major spots or to get the transit/an uber to whatever destination you'd like to visit. The staff is friendly and very helpful and the whole place was always very cleand and well maintained.

The bunk beds are VERY noisy. I'm not a light sleeper, but I woke up multiple times every single night by the sound of someone in the room moving around on their beds. I avoided moving much myself to not annoy others, but whenever I did I could hear the wood making very loud sounds. If you're a light sleeper, I'd suggest booking a private room.

I really enjoyed my stay here! The layout of the hostel was great, with lots of hang out areas (including outdoor space) and well equipped lounges on each floor with plenty of books and spaces for working. Friendly staff and the bathrooms were very clean. There were only 2 female showers on my level, but I didn't have to wait at all during my staff. I stayed in a female dorm, everyone was really respectful, tidy, friendly and lovely. The luggage room is secure and there is plenty of information/brochures in reception for things to see and do. Breakfast is basic, but not complaints, as it seems free breakfast is becoming less common in hostels nowadays.

- No wall sockets at individual bunks, just one shared power board per room that was mostly always full - There were quite a few older gentleman staying at the hostel. Just something to consider as a female if your not comfortable with this in a mixed dorm, opt for female only

This hostel is superb. The rooms are neat. They maintain the cleanliness everyday. I even saw them cleaning rooms and the hallways, during the day. The location is also good since grocery store, restaurants, bus stops and train station is walking distance. I also felt safe inside the hostel. I would also like to applaud the front desk team. They are very helpful, and accommodating with the guests! I actually asked them to go to the room twice since I checked out really late and I forgot my luggage inside; then pick up my phone which I left inside the room before leaving the hostel.

The room and beds are spacious and the cabinets to keep your personal belongings too. Plus, all rooms are quite close to the bathrooms. The kitchen is modern and big, with multiple refrigerators and a particular space for "free food" that other visitors may have leave behind. In the same line, you can ask the staff members for bear spray and other tools that were left and are totally usable and free for your trip. They also have activities like "movie night" and the staff members are super nice.

Maybe a bit more flexibility with breakfast hours since we were getting out early and couldn't enjoy it.
