September 2022

My family and I stayed the Melia Caribe Beach Resort for 14 nights in August 2022. We chose the Melia for its family friendly variety of activities and choice of restaurants for our 15 year old daughter and 11 year old son. Our accommodation was great - two interconnecting rooms in The Level. We upgraded to The Level since we wanted a little exclusivity and this was our first holiday in three years. We were also assigned a concierge for the duration of our stay to look after us and ensure we had a comfortable stay. The Melia is big, but there are couple of trains that continuously travel around the resort so you can hop on/off where you want. The beach is beautiful - long, wide and clean. During our visit there was inflatable assault course in the sea; it costs $20 USD for an hour which is plenty and so much fun - we visited twice during our stay. Restaurants: Riviera - very good Hokkaido - good (this restaurant is not in the all-inclusive-package - the cost is added to your bill at the park end. Excellent food from an excellent chef; wine and a welcome cocktail included in the set menu. However, the restaurant lacked any sort of atmosphere, ambience, and Japanese decor; we could have been anywhere), Barefoot - good (stick to burgers and fries; my wife’s Caesar salad was poor), Alma - very good, Capri - very good The reception staff at The Level were great - our concierge team were excellent (big shout out and thank you to Reynardo and Saudi) and special mention to the young man known fondly as ‘Sexy Body’ - always with a smile.

Restaurants: La Hacienda - not so good (we had to wait an hour and a half for our food to arrive and when it did it was average. The manager was very apologetic), Merkado - not so good (listed as Caribbean cuisine during our stay, but the food was Italian and below average) l

Lets start by saying the property is huge and surrounded by nature which feels just great. The facilities are very well maintaned and the service offered at "the level" are very good. Staff is friendly and ready to help at anytime you need. The food and drinks are good and the service offered by the beach bar is great. It is a perfect place to rest for the week. I highly recommend to book "the level" rooms for the extra service that you can get inside the property that includes a very comfy and exclusive spot by the beach.

Meliá has a very strict policy and uber drivers are not allowed to enter in the hotel. I understand that, but staff should not make your life harder to drop you at the front door to catch an uber. I felt some resistance every time I wanted to call an uber and they were trying to convince me to take a taxi that would cost me 4X the price. If the price was 2X more expensive I believe it was fine but charging me 40EUR for a 5km ride it was way too much. As a suggestion, the chain should look after having events for single travelers. I saw a lot of activities for families only.

The buffet the doors were left open and a lot of flys will get in to the food. Also the pools will close too early and no one was cleaning up the trash around the pool area.

Staff was great, value was great, room was great along with the property.

The only issue was the ability to make reservations at a dining restaurant. As an all inclusive I think the only way to eat at a restaurant is to either pay extra or be “Level” status. Other issue was the food was okay but bland and lacked taste. It’s unfortunate because the buffet is quiet nice.

Plenty facilities and activities for kids, my 4 yo joined beach foam party, circus, panting, etc. The main pool is big and has shallow parts for kids on each corners. Waterpark is fantastic. There’s plenty activities for different groups age for children, also entertainment every evening. When it’s too hot outside children can play in kids club. White sandy beach and very safe for children. It was a perfect decision to stay in this hotel as im traveling with my 4 yo alone. We’ll definitely come back

There’s not many golf carts available and waiting for the car train sometimes takes quite long, on the check out they only take our luggages and i has to walk or wait for the car train, which is quite difficult when you are in hurry and traveling with children . Some staff are not friendly, one kept driving when me and my kid were about to cross the street just on the entrence of water park

We had the best concierge ever! Joan was amazing. He helped us exactly with what we needed and when we needed it, never tried to sell us anything or “help us” book any extracurricular tours or activities outside the resort, unlike most other employers there who kept offering to “hook us up” for all sort of stuff - like they had a side gig outside the resort. So having Joan doing none of that and instead answering our questions, booking restaurant (included) reservations for us, someone to help us with our luggage, etc. was a breath of fresh air. He was extremely professional. As of the resort itself, I’d say the Level reservation is totally worth compared to a regular one. The beds make a huge difference. Then the Lounge was nice and the Riviera restaurant was definitely our favorite. But the Merkado buffet was really good too, never let us down. Everything fresh and tasty and a huge variety. The facilities are clean, the pool was great and the beach paradise. I would advise the resort to somehow train the staff to back off the “tours” sales pitch (more like harassment) and limit themselves to offer any extra outdoor activities to only when asked about it. Another feedback is to please provide customers with “do not disturb tags” for our doors, housekeeping woke us 4 times the first morning entering the room every 30 mins or so, and also in the afternoon twice opened the door to ask if we needed anything when we where completely naked. A dnd sign by the door would have avoided this. In any case, the experience was overall positive and we would absolutely go back again. We hope Joan is still there and available to be our helper when we do, and we hope it is soon too. :)

The harassment with the whole booking of extra activities and the housekeeping walking up on us naked, the lack of dnd signs for the door.

1) Algae - This is the season for it, postpone your trip if you don’t want to see it or maybe go to La Romana! Melia Caribe probably does the best job in cleaning it daily, but no matter how much they clean it will always be there. Grade: 4/5 2) Service - Our room was at “The Level” which provided exclusive services including having access to your own butler, shoutout to Teo! So much staff all around the hotel, the majority provided great service. Our hotel host/coordinator was fantastic and helped us out with anything, thank you Maraya Torres. Grade: 4/5 3) Resort - Huge, no exaggeration! If you don’t like to walk, this is not for you. Lobby to beach is 10-15 min walk. Very tropical, beautiful palms flamingos, lakes etc. Across both hotels (including adults hotel) 3 major pools, ~12 restaurants, 2 lobbies, huge beach divided into 4 sections. Grade: 5/5 4) Food - Not the best, but definitely not bad. There are plenty of options, stick to the place you liked rather than trying out too many new options. Tartufo, Casa Notra, Alma & Riviera might be the better options. Capri and Mercado were no bueno for us. Grade: 4/5 5) People - A lot! Did not feel like we were in a pandemic. Masks and gloves offered everywhere, but the hotel attracts a lot of people. However since it is one of the biggest it can definitely accommodate everyone. This hotel seems to attract a lot more locals than tourists. Grade: 3.5/5 6 Overall experience - Very satisfied. No major complaints. Otium travels were great for excursions, room service was 5 star towards us, bar service was great, transfer trains were OK but we didnt care too much and walked a lot. Food was hit or miss really, hit as in decent but not wow. We missed on 2 occasions but everything else was good. 4.5/5 Cheers Melia

Beautiful grounds, nice big pools, great beach, good room. Food was also good and plentiful. Staff were friendly and helpful. The main building was a little distant from the main pool and beach, but it wasn’t a big issue. There were regular bus-trains and golf carts and anyway it was a pleasant walk.

Wi-Fi worked but could be stronger in the rooms. Shortage of towels by the pools. The buffet restaurants were fine but when we booked a table at the reservation ones we had to wait despite booking a given time.

Beautiful hotel complex, we stayed at the Level so we had additional priviledges such as access to a restaurant (only Level guests can come and eat here), pool, private beach area with a snack bar, beach towels, and we also had a concierge/butler who helped us every day to make sure we have our best vacation. The food in the all inclusive was very good, we tried the buffets as well as all a-la-carte restaurants. The drinks were also okay, however, most of the time we received all of our drinks in paper cups (eco-friendly). Don't expect premium liquor, only a few bars serve quality brand beverages. The whole hotel complex was huge, we always used golf carts to get from our room to the beach or to the restaurants. By walking its 10-15 min, depending on where your room is. Private beach is cleaned every day. Everything clean and comfy.

We had reported several times that our fridge was out of water (refill was promised every day), only after talking to management did we receive refill. The bath was out of order. No mosquito net on windows therefore many bites in the night.
