Mama Shelter Marseille

Hotel was very cute and Instagram-ready. Cheerful and cool. The staff were amazing, particularly bartender Alexei. My French is atrocious but he patiently let me try to talk to him :-) We ordered dinner one night at the bar and the PANISSES were amazing. The goat cheese salad and pancetta plate were also good. The fresh plates of vegetables, cheese and meat were the best value for money. The breakfast was lovely, the perfect start to a day of adventuring in the city. Room stayed cold and mostly quiet. Located within walking distance of Cours Julien, a plaza bustling with life and cafes. A bit further of a walk to Vieux Port.

The bed could have been a bit firmer, but that's a personal preference. I didn't like all the metal accessories in the room(like the trashcan and side table) because they were really loud. The bed needs a sheet as well as the comforter- despite the good AC the goose-down comforter was too hot to sleep under. Food at the bar was good but a bit expensive. The fresh plates of vegetables, cheese and meat were the best value for money.

it’s extremely clean, has a great vibe. staff are EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. The set up and decor are very contemporary. I did find the room to be a bit of a tight squeeze and the desk is not conducive to extended periods of work, however I did head down to the restaurant to continue working and plugged in my pods to block out the noise.

I’m not familiar with the area or geography of marseille so unsure whether all areas are like this but at first it didn’t seem to be too well located. however, a short 5 min walk away finds you in the heart of the social scene

room is quite spacious, was very happy about mine. everything works properly and the shower is great. my room was quiet, and was in my spectations. staff (most os them) were very attentive. some speak very little english.

the hotel itself is quite small, theres no lounge really but theres the restaurant that sort of behaves like the lounge, but its not. when you check out and need to wait a while before making a move you have to do that at the restaurant. no room service.

- room is of decent size - comfortable bed - shower facilities were awesome - by far the best I have encountered in france so far ! - staff were friendly and helpful - hotel restaurant and food was great - secured parking provided

- secured parking was located in a small road which was slightly hard to find for the first time given roads were one way - hotel located abit too far from old port.. about 18mins walk with slope - neighborhood seems dodgy.. we would def feel safer if we stayed in hotels located in more touristy areas like la panier and old port

The hotel was great and rooms were nice and modern. Loved the additions of the random things like character masks. The hotel bar was really lively on the Saturday night with a good DJ and we enjoyed this. Convenient to have parking in the basement of the building and we had two rooms booked which they did locate on the same floor and only a couple of doors away as requested.

Shouldn’t charge for parking for hotel guests. The location was a bit out of the way and whilst quiet had to walk through some more questionable areas to reach the centre. Hotel breakfast was overpriced for a very basic selection and lots of stuff had run out and wasn’t replaced until asked.

The hotel is beautifully decorated, staff is kind and helpful, rooms were very clean and very nicely decorated, beds were very comfortable

The location is far from the center and most of the tourist attractions . The nearest subway station is 10 minutes walk. We ended up driving our rental car everywhere- and driving in Marseille is not easy

A different hotel had has its quirkiness that we liked. Location is ideal but with graffiti all over the neighbouring properties it did look intimidating.

A little expensive for the area, graffiti all over the neighbourhood so it looked out of place

Very friendly staff at reception. Great bar/restaurant onsite. Good location to walk around Marseille. Stylistic. Lovely colourful building. Comfortable and clean room. Safe parking onsite is definitely an added bonus.

Bit expensive for what you get, but understandable with the RWC on.

We liked the design of the room that're also very well furnished and equipped. The hotel Is not in the very centre but close to a nice neighborhood, full of restaurants, pubs, and cafè. Nevertheless the area where It Is located is very quiet in the night.

The reception was very small. Some sockets in the room didn't work.

The hotel was really nice bit wasn’t too easy to find, even using my GPS. There is nog “big” sign with HERE IS MAMA SHELTER. For parking the car, there is only one way in AND out. And you need to react quick bit the port closes fast. But we had enough space to park our car (stationwagen). Not ideal for a SUV though. My car door did got bumped a little bit by the car next me. Not a biggie. Our room was on the sixth floor; nice view and space. And the wifi was good. The remote for the television wasn’t always working, just slam the remote and it will be ok. Near the hotel there is Place Jean Jaures, full with cafes and restaurants! Have your pick, but don’t forget, reservations are important. The walk to the center wasn’t far away, ten minutes top. BUT it was all the way down en don’t forget, you need to go all the way up again to back to the hotel. All by all, we had a pleasant stay.
