Location was perfect, central AND utterly charming. Hotel was adorable, comfortable but no frills, full of old-fashioned local character. Staff was very kind and helpful and spoke English very well.

The only problem is the noise of other guests returning to their rooms at all hours of the night, talking in the hallway outside our door, and then the sounds of the staff cleaning and setting up breakfast early in the morning, which came up the stairs to our room. The doors are not sound-proof and so we slept poorly.

A beautiful hustoric hotel and excellent restaurant in a lovely setting, beside cobbled streets and a charming little bridge over the stream in Freiburg Old Town. The hotel was full of character, as was my room, if a little basic. Excellent self-service buffet breakfast, with an array of choices, in a very historic room, with beams. Some of the staff were very friendly, helpful and interactive.

No kettle, fridge or air-con, which neant I had to leave my window open at night (luckily not too noisy). Shower didn't drain at all well and had a very flimsy shower curtain. Room not cleaned, nor towels replaced until my third day, as it seemed there had been a mix-up about what room I was in and how long my booking. So I had to show definite confirmation of my booking for 4 nights, not the 3 they had thought, confirmed when they checked their bookings. Room a bit smaller than the rooms had looked in photos, but a very nice view of a cobbled historic street. No separate reception.

This hotel, central in the old district, is an attractive older cosy building with a collection of interesting artifacts around the restaurant section. It is a very popular eating and drinking spot, the food is home style cooking so not fancy but good tasting. There a social hum you can hear when in rooms but not objectionable. There was no noise from other guests but we were in a top room.

The staff needed to pay attention to how many guests were on the booking and provide correct towels & toiletries each day and make up another bed. As we had a little kitchen, tea, coffee and milk could have been put into our room. If you have heavy bags or are not fit you might not like the stairs but a young man will help if you find him.

The location is excellent, perfect to visit Freiburg on foot. Our room, actually a family suite, quite large an comfortable, well furnished and with excellent taste. Everything was very clean.

The rooms are just above a restaurant, which seems to be the main activity. In our case we were quite lucky with the orientation of the room, but it can get quite noisy in the evening. The personnel seems to be more busy with the restaurant than with hotel clients.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. I arrived earlier than expected, and my bag was stored until my room was available which was exactly when it was promised. The room was comfortable and breakfast was delicious and very generous. The breadrolls were fresh and had just been baked. I recommend this hotel and would return in the future.

The location is incredible. The staff were welcoming and polite. We loved the look of the hotel and our room as well as the amenities in the suite. The food at the the restaurant was excellent and among the top (traditional) food we ate in Germany. I wish we could have stayed longer!

The only (very tiny) hiccup was we were given a parking card that we were told would give us a discount at the local parking lot. Unfortunately it did not work. But this is very minor and did not change our opinion of Sichelschmiede.

Delightful, traditional hotel in great location. Very scenic. Nice room with simple facilities but had everything we needed. Lovely duvets and pillows (I think they were feather)

Everything was fine. Staff were very busy (a popular place) so there was a bit of waiting around, and no one refreshing or clearing tables at breakfast, but we weren't in a rush so it didn't matter to us.

It is in an amazing location and the restaurant downstairs is delicious and so convenient. breakfast was so good and handy. the staff were super helpful and kind. I would stay here a whole week!! our top floor apartment has all the things we needed, including a tub and amazing views!!

This was like stepping back in time..in a good way! A beautiful historic building with lots of character and duper friendly and helpful staff- especially Suki.💚

I booked a single room and it was really tiny. But I would come back..just next time I'd book a double room..

The choice of breakfast, they could offer more variety of sweets, fruits.
