I was positively surprised in every aspect. it's a well-thought-through hotel all in all. One detail I expected to be less good than in reality, was the sauna. I've seen pictures of the sauna and I wasn't impressed, which I was when I was there "in real life". You'll have a panoramic city view while in the sauna. A first for me indeed.

There's nothing I "didn't like". At one point I went for a cocktail at the bar in the evening and the staff didn't tell me in the best way, that the table I wanted to take wasn't available. All good, that moment was just a bit awkward, but forgettable after the whole experience.

-- The staff is incredibly accommodating, helpful and friendly! -- We had booked the Deluxe Room which felt somewhat small for a week long stay. It is definitely worth it to pay extra for the view towards the Alster. -- We had the opportunity to stay for 2 nights in the Executive Suite which was super comfortable and provided an amazing experience! When we come again, we will book the Suite instead of the room. --The hotel is very serene and beautifully located along the Alster which allowed for evening strolls and a very relaxing stay. -- Everything is kept in immaculate condition! The hotel is a 'feast for the eyes'! -- The Parkview restaurant offers a business lunch option and an interesting dinner selection. -- We had booked out stay with breakfast. The buffet offered a great selection in addition to items that could be ordered from a menu as well.

-- There wasn't really anything we didn't like except it was not as 'central' as we had envisioned. To get to downtown Hamburg, we either had to take a Taxi or walk for about 30 min which in essence is fine. -- Although we had restaurants and a small grocery store right around the corner, we ended up not leaving the hotel much during our stay :)

From the moment we arrived, the staff were friendly, personable and welcoming. We were given an early check in, which made our silver wedding anniversary so much more of a treat! And from the roof-top spa all the way down to the ground-floor restaurant (breakfast was stunning), everything in this hotel felt impeccably organised and presented. Its lakeside location made it feel restful and natural, even within a bustling and vibrant city. We loved our stay, and would come again tomorrow! What a place, what a space.

It gives me great pleasure to give feedback on The Fontenay. We have stayed in numerous 5 Star hotels around the world over the last many years and we have never experienced anything like The Fontenay. It is very luxurious, elegantly decorated and has a charming and very welcoming atmosphere with very attentive and professional staff. The location is fantastic right at the beautiful Alster lake. In short it was a magical experience. We shall definitely come back. Thank you all at The Fontenay for making our stay with a truly memorable experience.

The staff was great, the cleaningnes was great, noise isolation was good.

The size of a single room is tiny. Very basic interior design both in the room and hotel itself, everythinf is just too simple for the price the hotel is charging. Size of the bathroom is very small as well. Breakfast was good but wasn't great, had to wait for quite a long time for the order to be served too. Overall, value for money is not worth it, I would say its a 4* simple hotel, which should be charging half of their price, or even third of it.

Lovely hotel with beautiful interior and excellent breakfast

For breakfast, the ability to make your own juice from a nice selection of fruits and vegetables. Room was exceptionally well lit (floor to ceiling windows). Location on the water could not be better. Staff was excellent, polite and professional.

Bread selection was dismal for breakfast (one would expect more in this hotel category in Germany, a country know for bread). They had bicycles available, which was great, but only to find out they really are rental bikes and somewhat expensive.

Overall an amazing hotel experience. Excellent rooms, excellent staff and superiour service!

The Spa staff allowed three kids to play very loudly in the pool, jumping, spashing etc. Inside the spa area for more than 30 minutes. This ruined the experience for multiple guests (including us)who all simply decided not to use the spa anymore and leave.

Room, breakfast, facilities all excellent. The bar is a "must have" were it only for the spectacular views of the Alster and the city. We treated ourselves also to a dinner in the Lakeside restaurant. Great menu, very creative and delicious dishes, and the wine pairing offered was for the most part super.

shower and bathroom. the sliding doors werde not working and did not close very well. the shower was a disgrace for such kind of a hotel, leaving a mess after every shower and it felt that the water consumption was far too much. So sustainability might not have been the key concept.
