Quality of service provided here is well beyond its two star rating. Very good place to stay near Port as their capable staff are experienced with needs of international visitors. 24 hour reception, local knowledge, maps on display and helpful signs in English. Lots of street parking if you have a car. Breeze from port kept our room cool. Spotlessly clean. Good fridge and reliable air con. Noted new toilet seat and new shower curtain. Ferry agency, large supermarkets, cafes and a good fruit shop (corner near main road) on main road a short walk away. Ate at Vardis Taverna. Go early before the locals as it's the best and most affordable restaurant close by. Ask at reception and they will direct you. Appreciated help with our ferry tickets. It's an okay walk (check the distance) down the hill from the hotel to flat area at the port to catch an early morning ferry. Heraklion is a fortified walled city everything near the port is up a hill and or will have stairs.

Would like to see them have a formalised opt out system for room servicing like many other hotels do. Bathroom needs additional towel hook.

We just stayed one night as we had an early ferry the next morning. This is an old hotel near the port but the lady at check in was very nice. She recommended a local taverna and the food was very good. The room was better than expected for the price and very clean and the sheets on the bed were pristine white and bed was comfy. We had a balcony. Bathroom was small and dated but clean and fine for one night.

The hotel was on the flight path from the airport so quite a few planes going over but there was double glazing so once inside not too bad and they did stop around 11pm and it was interesting to watch.

Irene and Nikos are the best hosts! All staff are polite, kind and helpful. It is always stress-free and comfortable to be at this hotel, where I stop by on my way from the airport to other destinations on the island every year. I enjoy the view and spending time on the balcony. The lift to upper levels is very convenient, and so is the option to store my luggage if I arrive too early to check in or depart late after check out. The location is brilliant, in a quiet area overlooking the port and the sea, yet very close to the bus stop and the city centre, as well as the airport. An easy walk to the bus station and local grocery stores. Buses to the city centre and airport are very frequent and cheap. Tickets can be bought at the machine available at the nearest bus stop. You can buy a convenient day ticket near the bus station instead. In my opinion this hotel is very good value for money if you are after a no-frills accommodation, and I would highly recommend it.

For me the people are the most important part! From check in to check out (and I stayed there my first night in Crete and my last night - twice!) everyone I was involved with was friendly, helpful, welcoming and professional!! The hotel is located right on the water by the large boat marina. My balcony overlooked that harbor and it seemed every time I looked up a huge ship had either come or gone. But they slip in and out so easily it’s great fun to watch. I had only thought I’d have an inexpensive place to stay after coming in late from Athens and leaving a week later on a morning flight. I don’t need lavish so I didn’t expect very much. But it was a clean, perfectly supplied facility and not very small. If I had business or plans to make Heraklion my center for activities, I’d be happy to have this accommodation for a week. And , as I started this review, its the people who make a perfectly efficient hotel into a “5 star “ experience. All my questions were answered perfectly and good advice was freely added which helped so much. As it turns out, there is a city bus which runs right from the airport to a block and a half from The Poseidon Hotel. (2Euro). It’s only a few kilometers away. I went back to the airport that waY, however, when I arrived, I took a taxi for 18 Euro. The bus was very fast and convenient so I will do that each time I return. And I will return to this hotel and say hi to Irini, the main person in charge, and I’m sure it will be a homecoming!

The towel bar in my room was loose. How’s that for my only complaint!?

I loved this place. I booked one night through booking.com and extended my stay four more nights. The staff felt like family and the terrace looking out over the Sea of Crete would have been my favorite hangout if the Hotel Poseidon was not so close to everything. Walking distance to the Natural History Museum, the History of Crete Museum, the airport, numerous bus stops, ATM machines, food places, the old part of the city and hands down the best Museum of Archaeology I have ever been to. The staff treated me so well I bought them flowers my last day there

I had to leave. Really, that's all I didn't like.

Irene and her husband were super hosts and I really appreciated their care and attention. For me I needed to be by the port to catch a ferry to Rhodes and the hotels location was a short distance away.

This is not a criticism just fact. The hotel is under the airport flight path so understand that there will be noise caused by this which is why it is a very reasonable hotel to stay at. I’m a tall broad guy and the bathroom I had was a tad small but as I was only there for one night I managed.

Great location between the port and the airport. Irene is like you mother … nothing is too much trouble and she’s always ready to help. You can walk to the ferry in 10 minutes ! There’s a fantastic value traditional taverna called “Vardis” within 5mins walk and a taxi to the airport is less than €15 and take 10mins. The room fees are excellent value for money !

Of course you’re on the flight path so the flights are loud when you’re outside but the double glazing is really good when you close the balcony doors to go to sleep.

What a magnificent view of the port and ferries coming and going. The staff and owners were very friendly and gave me ideas for activities and comfort when all did not work out. The room I had had a great balcony … provided a cooling breeze after a warm day of sightseeing. Elevator was helpful.

The hotel is outside of the main tourist zone. It is on a bluff which is a climb when you don’t have a car. .A lot of airport flyover noise. Seems to stop late at night.

It is a good choice as a transit hotel. It's proximity to the port, the airport, and the town. It's literally within walking distance of the town; approximately 20 minutes to the centre, depending on your walking pace. The staff are friendly and it is good value for money. There is plenty of free parking available, on the street, for hire cars. There is even a taverna 200m from the entrance.

The facilities could be improved with a kettle and some free tea/coffee.
