Quality of service provided here is well beyond its two star rating. Very good place to stay near Port as their capable staff are experienced with needs of international visitors. 24 hour reception, local knowledge, maps on display and helpful signs in English. Lots of street parking if you have a car. Breeze from port kept our room cool. Spotlessly clean. Good fridge and reliable air con. Noted new toilet seat and new shower curtain. Ferry agency, large supermarkets, cafes and a good fruit shop (corner near main road) on main road a short walk away. Ate at Vardis Taverna. Go early before the locals as it's the best and most affordable restaurant close by. Ask at reception and they will direct you. Appreciated help with our ferry tickets. It's an okay walk (check the distance) down the hill from the hotel to flat area at the port to catch an early morning ferry. Heraklion is a fortified walled city everything near the port is up a hill and or will have stairs.

Would like to see them have a formalised opt out system for room servicing like many other hotels do. Bathroom needs additional towel hook.

Irene and her husband were super hosts and I really appreciated their care and attention. For me I needed to be by the port to catch a ferry to Rhodes and the hotels location was a short distance away.

This is not a criticism just fact. The hotel is under the airport flight path so understand that there will be noise caused by this which is why it is a very reasonable hotel to stay at. I’m a tall broad guy and the bathroom I had was a tad small but as I was only there for one night I managed.

For me the people are the most important part! From check in to check out (and I stayed there my first night in Crete and my last night - twice!) everyone I was involved with was friendly, helpful, welcoming and professional!! The hotel is located right on the water by the large boat marina. My balcony overlooked that harbor and it seemed every time I looked up a huge ship had either come or gone. But they slip in and out so easily it’s great fun to watch. I had only thought I’d have an inexpensive place to stay after coming in late from Athens and leaving a week later on a morning flight. I don’t need lavish so I didn’t expect very much. But it was a clean, perfectly supplied facility and not very small. If I had business or plans to make Heraklion my center for activities, I’d be happy to have this accommodation for a week. And , as I started this review, its the people who make a perfectly efficient hotel into a “5 star “ experience. All my questions were answered perfectly and good advice was freely added which helped so much. As it turns out, there is a city bus which runs right from the airport to a block and a half from The Poseidon Hotel. (2Euro). It’s only a few kilometers away. I went back to the airport that waY, however, when I arrived, I took a taxi for 18 Euro. The bus was very fast and convenient so I will do that each time I return. And I will return to this hotel and say hi to Irini, the main person in charge, and I’m sure it will be a homecoming!

The towel bar in my room was loose. How’s that for my only complaint!?

I loved this place. I booked one night through booking.com and extended my stay four more nights. The staff felt like family and the terrace looking out over the Sea of Crete would have been my favorite hangout if the Hotel Poseidon was not so close to everything. Walking distance to the Natural History Museum, the History of Crete Museum, the airport, numerous bus stops, ATM machines, food places, the old part of the city and hands down the best Museum of Archaeology I have ever been to. The staff treated me so well I bought them flowers my last day there

I had to leave. Really, that's all I didn't like.

What a magnificent view of the port and ferries coming and going. The staff and owners were very friendly and gave me ideas for activities and comfort when all did not work out. The room I had had a great balcony … provided a cooling breeze after a warm day of sightseeing. Elevator was helpful.

The hotel is outside of the main tourist zone. It is on a bluff which is a climb when you don’t have a car. .A lot of airport flyover noise. Seems to stop late at night.

Not really a don't like but I would have loved a kettle in the room to make tea😊. I expect it's for health and safety reasons but I love a cup of tea first thing😁 However, I'd happily stay again👍

Lovely welcome. Very nice warm people. The man in reception advised us of a really decent and cheap taverna just 8 minutes walk ( Vardis Taverna). The hotel was good, economical and clean. Just a small point that the shower was so small we couldn’t turn round but this is normal in budget Greek rooms. Good sized balcony outside. Aircon worked well etc. Basically for a one night stopover it’s very easy to reach both airport ( by bus) and bus station for travel on into Crete. So a great budget option. Extremely nice reception staff. Super friendly

We booked one night at this hotel for its location near to the ferry terminal. Whilst it is old, and the rooms are pretty small, it is very clean, cared for, and great value. All the staff were lovely and were welcoming, friendly and helpful. They gave us advice and booked a taxi in the morning for us to get to the ferry. We enjoyed having a little balcony that looked out over the ferry terminal, and the fridge in the room was very handy. My husband was very relieved that the hotel has a lift too. There was free parking on the surrounding streets, and we were able to walk to a lovely little 'Kantina' a few streets away for some fantastic, great value food. It was also walking distance to the town centre and the museums.

The en-suite shower room was tiny, which could be a problem for larger people.

Great views from Balcony Stayed here twice in August and September in 2 different rooms. The first room on the 3rd floor at the front of the hotel had great views of the harbour and the boats coming and going and a great place to top up the tan, the Second on the second floor was on the side street so had a restricted view from the balcony. Comfortable rooms, fridges and TVs, hot showers and powerful air con. Very helpful staff who showed us a great local tavern, Vardis with fab food and entertainment. They also printed off the bus timetable for us to get to our next hotel. Very impressed overall.
