The staff were really nice and the showers were clean. It was conviently placed close to the city and a gas station so you can fill up before any long drives out of the city.
Theres no reception so you have to kinda just walk around until you find someone to take the payment and show you to your room. Its also in a weird spot so finding the entrance can be difficult if you are in a car due to the surronding roads.

This hostel occupies the first floor of an octagonal building which hosts at the second floor a mosque. I think it is the most affordable accommodation in Reykjavik for both tourists and workers especially at the height of the season. It may look kind of basic at first, but it grows on you fast because the atmosphere is so relaxed. The eight sided design of the floor is great and it also creates a little bit of intimacy and closeness. It is kept as clean as possible for a highly trafficked place and you will be neither cold nor hot in these rooms. The showers are roomy and confrontable, the kitchen acceptably equipped even if it could use some new appliances and vessel. The personal is helpful, they allowed me to store my backpack there for the rest of the day at checkout, found a bottom bed when I really needed it and a possibility to extend my stay when there were no more beds available officially and even offered me lunch on the house. Overall, good value for your money.
The look, decor and furnishing is basic and kind of impersonal. Hostel employees do not always speak English, but they might be able to help you in Italian, French or Moroccan. The biggest downside for me was the 5-7 minute walk to the nearest bus stops and the 8 minute bus ride to downtown.

The owner is a but rough at first but very nice at heart. The place is very clean (except for some guests not cleaning after them). Bed confortable but moving a bit to much and squeaky. Lockers avalaible in bedroom. Big common area but fresh. Hot water in showers which are big.
This is not a typical hostel as the islamic center and mosque of Iceland are on the upper floor. There is no community feeling. It is quite far from the city center but still walkable distance. As always in the world, too much light to have a very good night sleep if you don't have an eye patch

Hi i had heard that this hostel had gotten a bad review and i wanted to say that have been here for some time and although you may not see it if you stay only for a short time but this is actually a very friendly place. I understand that the main complaints are about not finding staff when you first come here and that is the only problem i had so i just want to point out for people that usually you are supposed to wait in the bottom floor until they see you on the camera, the staff are sometimes on the second floor. But if you are not seeing any staff you can walk inside two white, and wide doors up to the Mosque, there you can ask for the staff just remember to take your shoes off and be quiet and polite as it is a Mosque. Also i read someone complaining of drug use and that might be a misunderstanding as i was careless and left my medications on the table, so overall this is a very nice place :)
The staff does not speak much English but still we manage so it's really not a big problem.

friendly staff, cleanliness, the room smell good, good air circulation, warm, very comfort place to stay and i love this place. i feel safe in this hostel. i read many review say , “many weird people”, but i did not find weirdo tho. probably just because of people come & go from different country, different culture, different habit.. but everything is normal like another hostel. the most important is the cleanliness, comfortable, lovely staff, thank you
they are too nice, too lovely…

SM Hostel is a different hostel. The beds are comfortable. It's very clean. The owner is nice and attentive. There is a large living room with very comfortable sofas, books and beautiful photos of Iceland very bigger. That makes a special, different environment. On the top floor there is a Muslim mosque, they are connected but have a separate entrance. I was interested and the owner show me. I really liked it, it's huge! More things... The Hostel is not in the center of the city, but it is next to Perlan, and the Reykjavik forest, one of the few forests on the island. It is a place with excellent views! the best views of the city, the sea, the volcano... And if you like to look at planes like me, you can see the ones at the local airport. It is not the typical hostel where they have parties. There is a lot of silence, in the rooms you do not hear car noise and that makes you feel better. The bathrooms have soap, paper to dry your hands and are always clean. The kitchen is very big! Ohhh and you can use the washing machine! This is important because in Reykjavik if you are traveling it is hard to find it. I stayed feel room 6p. The room have fridge, so is good for living a time until found a job or accomodation. If I go back to Reykjavik I will come back to this hostel! Thanks🙂
Everything was fine

Spacious common hall with couches and tables - perfect for planning the trip. Well equipped and clean kitchen and toilets. Staff was kind and helpful, one of them let us have their slippers because we forgot ours :) The price for one night was ridiculously good compared to other places in Reykjavik.
Some of the staff sleeps in the mixed dorms with travellers, which felt uncommon. The general vibe was more unsociable than in other hostels we've visited. Kitchen and showers were very cold.

Maybe offer some shampoo/ body wash for the guests.

Very clean rooms and beds. The blanket and pillows were freshly washed. Each room has a fridge, so you can store all the stuff from the supermarket to Avoid buying expensive food outside to stay on budget. The hosts are very nice people. Hostel is wheelchair accessible and has a wheelchair accessible toilet.

Very friendly staff, easy to check-in/check-out, nice and easygoing atmosphere. Big, good equiped kitchen with enough cooking-, eating- and foodstorage- place. Enough showers with private changing room. Spacious living room with lots of tables and comfy sitting places. There was a electricity outlet with my sleeping place.
Could do with more toilet.
