The professional staff at breakfast was top notch. The history of the castle was fascinating and the room was amazing for the price!! Simply amazing!!

Having to walk through the restaurant with all of our bags when we checked in was awkward. The side door with ramp was locked. Also, I tripped on the edge of one of the slate/stones at the entrance because it was a bit too dark there (nice ambiance of lighting but just too dark to see), so I skinned up my palm badly which bleed and my knee and I dropped my computer (still works though, I think) but it was all a bit unfortunate. With so many elderly guests, that might need to be addressed.

The staff were excellent, with particular mention to one of the receptionists, who booked us in last minute at the main restaurant. The bar staff were also fantastic, and extremely engaging in conversation.

The food was great, but it was overpriced. Sadly it is not "fine dining" by my standards. We had stayed at Monart Spa the night before, and the dinner there was of excellent standard (with an amuse bouche, and sorbets in between courses), as well as being noticeably cheaper per head. The rooms were looking a bit tired, with a lot of marks on the carpets and scuffs on the walls.

We stayed for the Range Rover exhibition in the K Club on Wednesday and saw it was a lot more value for money than the K Club. I never stayed in this hotel and I think it was a really fantastic hotel. It is based on an old style castle and the junior suite we were in. It was really lovely a real Downton Abbey theam to it.

Nothing! However, the room we were in had no tea or coffee and coffee biscuits. The kettle and coffee machine and cups were in room, but no tea, coffee, milk, and coffee biscuits.

Beautiful historic building and grounds. Very conveniently located a few minutes drive from the M4. Bedrooms very cosy and tastefully decorated in keeping with the ambience of the castle. We had a lunch in the conservatory, (would highly recommend the chowder), pre-dinner drinks in their lovely lounge before a fabulous meal in The Barton Room complete with roaring fire. Breakfast was served in the stone castle keep, an amazing part of the original castle. Again, food was delicious with a great selection of hot and cold food, the soft crumbly scones were to die for.

The staff member called Bethan, who made sure everything was as good as it could be and was extra courteous and considerate. She was exceptional. Thank you. The helpfulness of the laundryroom and (possibly) housekeeper. Thank you.

Being dismissed at Reception when I raised the point about us having our peaceful stay destroyed by the noise from a coach running his engine for half an hour under our bedroom window.

Beautiful grounds and the hotel itself was stunning. Food and drinks were really good, and staff were friendly and accommodating .

Very little. Maybe the staff could give a little more information. When we checked in breakfast wasn’t mentioned, as in the times or where it was. Also when we went to breakfast, a waitress led us to a table and walked away. She never mentioned the buffet in the other room that we couldn’t see or asked if we wanted a tea or coffee.

The staff - in all departments - were welcoming and unfailingly friendly and courteous. The dinner we took in the Garden Bar - joined by family including toddlers - was well presented and of high quality. The breakfast offer was fulsome and promptly served. All in all, the atmosphere of the hotel is both suitably informal but at the same time fully professional. An excellent experience all round.

We were met with smiles from friendly and professional staff from the moment we entered until we checked out. The location was ideal for us, a short drive from Dublin. We had booked a suite as a treat for my wife's birthday and we had a "Wow" moment when we entered the room. The space, decor, and design, (and the four-poster bed) were magnificent. The bathroom too, with its gleaming porcelain, was immaculate. We enjoyed drinks in the bar prior to our meal in the Elizabethan suite - good to see that both alcoholic and non-alcoholic wines were available. The meal was most memorable - apart from the great food & wine, the service was faultless. Breakfast was also served in this room, the following morning. It proved to be the best breakfast we have had in a long time - the quality of the food was exceptional. Our visit to Barberstown Castle will linger in our memory. Thanks to all involved.

There appeared to be many young trainees undergoing training during our stay. Naturally, they couldn't know everything immediately, so this one incident is understandable. My wife asked for decaff tea with her breakfast but our server said that they didn't serve it. She had had a pot of decaff tea, the previous day, so when I informed him of this he went to check and returned with a pot of decaff tea.

Barberstown Castle is a must, the staff are second to none, Bethan is so lovely, kind and professional at Breakfast, Heather at reception is phenomenal, not to mention Nazir and Leona. We started staying here about two years ago and love returning, the place is exceptional and the food, rooms and grounds are so elegant it’s just such a pleasure. Can’t wait to go back.
