Location, value, breakfast, comfort, cleanliness, terrace off room. Gianvito was super helpful is explaining how to organize sightseeing and obtaining dinner reservations at two of the very best restaurants, L'Abondanza and La Latteria. He couldn't have been more helpful and enthusiastic about Matera.

We did not understand that we had only until 10 am to get our car out of the parking lot up the hill and load our [heavy] bags. Gianvito was kind enough to call us a taxi to get up the hill to the parking lot (14 euros).

Right in the old town we booked the terrace room with a very unique view (see pics) . Very comfortable stay. Sarah was super helpful, friendly and responsive, and gave us great suggestions of where to go. Nice breakfast in a lovely room. Perfect stay, thank you.

Google maps struggles with Matera. That’s not the fault of the property!! It kept telling us we had arrived but we couldn’t see it. Turns out we were standing on top of reception!! We suggest wearing shoes with good grip and not carrying too much to the accommodation. Matera is for the sure footed! We loved our stay and would recommend Le Malve 😊

What an amazing experience to sleep inside a cave in the middle of this incredible place. Room was spacious, clean, fully equipped, new and clean linnens and towels. Everything very modern and cozy The shower is a 10 plus! Amazing! Pier was outstanding 🙏🏼

Breakfast is not a 5 star. The staff regulate quantity of everything! To be a 5 plus star, they should refill everything all the time. We had to order eggs 3 times. Another table with 5 people by our side had to do the same… everytime we were served 1 scrambled egg… 5 star hotels don’t count eggs… they fry dozens and serve! Also, not many options of savory! Lots of sweets though! Juices, they put a little bottle for a lot of people… after 2 serves, no refill unless you ask. Coffee, have to be ordered time after time…

We loved staying in a cave hotel in the historic district. Very smartly appointed and lovely staff

It was a long way to negotiate our luggage from the car park (500m away) and down the slippery road. Would be a great idea for accommodations to offer a tuktuk service, even if just for luggage. Would have been happy to pay as the weather was very hot. Ditch the paper cups in the hotel room and put in glasses and cups for guests instead. Check everything working (bedside light & rubbish bin). Minor things, but overall we'd definitely stay again as it was so charming

The staff were all so lovely, and were so attentive when we had an issue with the air conditioning (the problem was resolved within the hour). The whole hotel felt very personal, given the smaller number of rooms and the reception gave us some incredible recommendations (thank you!). They had newly renovated when we stayed (the room had only been made ready in the last 2 months) and everything was very high-spec and and clean.

My partner and I struggled to find the hotel at first. Worth asking for directions before you arrive, but when you do the location is amazing!

 Matera is a unique place in Italy and the hotel completely reflects this fact. It is fabulous and very unique place to stay. The hotel is in the middle of the historical site. The bed was probably the best I ever slept on in any hotel. The owner is a great person who spent a lot of energy time and money to create a fabulous place 

it is a bit tricky to find the place because this historical site does not allow any signs of hotel or businesses. but you have a phone contact and the staff will help you.

Amazing room, super clean, very comfy bed, incredible experience. Modern and clean bathroom, all fittings and finishes were perfect. Great place to stay and great staff, the breakfast was also fantastic!

There is no signage anywhere around in town and finding the hotel can be a bit challenging if you parked and walked with luggage. I recommend taking a taxi. The hotel should consider putting a sign with their name, there is none anywhere!

The location of this hotel is in the best area of old town. It’s on the south side with amazing views and close to really good restaurants. Every room is unique and the architect designed each room around beautiful stone formations. It feels high end, although you stay in one of the oldest dwellings in Europe. Everything is in walking distance.

More room for the extra bed for or daughter. Should have booked a different room.

The staff was fantastic. We were late arriving due to luggage issues and the staff called and waited for us. They were super knowledgeable about the area and helped make dinner reservations. Breakfast staff was welcoming, room clean, and food. yummy. They let us store luggage so we could explore more after we checked out. The shower in our cave was amazing with three different water sources. (The room was made from an ancient cave!)

Excellent room with a mezzanine sitting room. Staff were excellent especially Sarah and the ladies in the breakfast room. Thanks to all. Position was fabulous, deep amongst the old city. Best place we visited in Italy.

Super small thing but only plastic cups for water and paper cups for tea. No big deal but a property of this quality could supply glassware.
