The staff was very accommodating, professional and friendly. They provided us with an overview and history of MATERA and made many great recommendations for food and scenic spots.

One of the rooms was not as expected (upstairs/downstairs sleeping areas) and neither offered a balcony nor a view which were the two main reasons we booked this hotel. The one room had a glass walled bathroom which offered no privacy. We in turn had to pay for an additional room as we were not traveling as a couple and wanted our (somewhat) private spaces.

The staff were friendly and knowledgable, the room was just perfect. The view from the room was superb. The highlight of our stay was Dinner. Absolutely amazing food, fabulous service, knowledgeable and efficient waiting staff. Will definitely be back.

The property was perfect. The parking staff and process was painful. Car park attendant was rude and dismissive. Didn’t explain what we had to do and tutted and sighed while we were unpacking the car. Not a nice first experience.

Rooms were obviously so unique, ours was inside the cave and huge. Sleeping here was such a unique experience, I loved it. The location and view from the hotel was amazing as well. Breakfast was EXCELLENT- plenty of selections, good quality food and the view on the outdoor patio was breathtaking. I didn't want to get up from the breakfast table. The pizza restaurant right beside the hotel was also so so so good. If you're in Matera, pizzeraia "Piu Sud" is a must.

We couldn´t choose any better place for our stay in Matera. Everything was just perfect since we arrived. The parking lot is located outside of Matera but they have a shuttle service for their guests which works great. The hotel itself is just incredible!! It´s very unique and it has a soul what I personally really appreciate. Our cave suite was spacy with clean bathroom, comfy king bed and our private patio from where we had absolutely fabulous views. We also enjoyed breakfast which is served as a buffet and they have everything you could wish to start your day. The breakfast terrace has amazing views.

It was our first visit to Matera and we where absolutely blown away not only by the Sassi but by this beautiful hotel and its location. Cave rooms, surroundings, views and staff all super. Their own restaurant served a beautiful breakfast and a superb evening meal if you like fine dining. It is also a stones throw from a number of other really nice restaurants. Wonderful experience. If you visit Matera, you need to stay here. Very romantic for a couple.

Not really a complaint as such but our room was a little hot. Other than that- no complaints. It is a perfect place for a couple of nights.

Possibly the friendliest and most attentive staff at any hotel we’ve ever stayed at. They were so lovely from the moment we arrived to when we left, including all the restaurant staff, gardeners and cleaners always saying hello with a smile. It was such a happy environment and made our whole family feel incredible comfortable. The location is amazing and food at the restaurant is incredible. Our cave room was the perfect respite from the 38 degree heat with a super comfy bed. A lovely terrace outside the room was perfect for pre dinner drinks with a view over the square. The use of WhatsApp makes all communication with the hotel team really easy and very responsive with all queries being answered in a few minutes.

Location . Site of James Bond movie car chase scene. Very unique hotel, in that it’s built in a cave. Breakfast was average. Off season, not many options for dinner.

1) The main purpose of selecting the hotel was to tour the caves and Sassi. The entire area was shut down due to a movie production and they didn’t allow us to take photographs of the central main area in a city whose purpose s tourism. Hotel didn’t communicate this until we were there. 2) Glass doors in bathroom, not good when traveling with children!

beautiful property and rooms, lovely staff, amazing location in the Sassi with fabulous views . most of all the restaurant is a must visit even if you are not staying there - one of the best meals I have ever eaten

the fact that it’s located on several parts of a hill. my mother has mobility issues and to climb up equivalent to 4 flights of stairs every time we wanted to go to our room was very difficult for her. the booking.com page should highlight the fact that this isn’t a good hotel for people who have mobility issues. i would not have chosen it if I knew.

Wonderful luxury hotel! It was fun being in the old area, even hiking the 80 steps up to the room. The breakfast was one of the best in our 3 weeks of travel to Italy, the location in the old city perfect. The greeting by the staff, the instructions for parking, the attentiveness of service was fantastic. Many of the staff even recognized us when we were coming and going, and we had a beautiful cup of hot tea on the bar/restaurant balcony under a full moon. We loved the introduction to the hotel and city when we arrived, really helped us walk around. A magical place for sure!

The only thing we would mention is the bathtub. The bathroom was gorgeous, but being slightly older adults the tub was challenging with no handle to help get out of the tub. It would have been good to know that ahead of time. We're lucky we have no real mobility issues...but my husband prefers showers and this was a bit challenging. As a side note, wish I would have upgraded for a room with a balcony...we had a small view out the window, but the balcony would have been perfect.
