It was a new experience for many of us in our party with Onsen and Hakone. Fujiya was a beautiful, relaxing and memorable experience for all of us. The staff was very attentive, helpful and hospitable. I really appreciated the history of Fujiya and what an unique Western and Japanese of architecture and decor. We tried both the Japanese and Western breakfast and both were more than what we expected. We loved the garden in back of the hotel that we only discovered on the last day of our stay. We love the neighborhood with cute and quaint shops and restaurants. We will definitely will come back to Fujiya and Hakone!

The hotel is up on a hill and away from the lake. I could only get to the lake Ashi or attractions in Hakone by car. I imagine it would be very difficult to stay at Fujiya and get to places without a private car or taxi.

Historic hotel resort from the end of 19th ventury, located at the core of Hakone, beautiful valleys and national parks. Character of the common spaces, rooms, spa, gardens and external pool.

How to balance class and formality with time of relax is a question for me. Dress code is indicated as smart casual for most locations but felt even higher expectations. So if you look for a more relaxed atmosphere, specially if you are travelling with kids, it may not be the best option.

It’s a beautiful, classic hotel with an amazing spa and Ibsen experience. It’s surrounded by beautiful gardens and the whole property reflects the grand history of the area.

I wish the gym was better equipped. This hotel has 2 pools and a spa but just a couple of exercise bikes in a small room off the pool. There is also not a lot to do in the town. You need to take the local train to Hakone attractions, but there is great hiking.

Beautiful historical building that is well mainatained and preserved. Rooms are large, beds are super comfortable, very nice bathroom. The onsen was clean and not crowded. Supposedly you cant go to the onsen with tattoos but I have one on my neck and noone said a word. Also, food was very good. You can get a free coffee everyday downstairs.

We did not like the prices are the hotel restaurants. They were ridiculous: 45$ to have two apple pies and two teas, $150 per person for a kaiseki meal. We also did not like the orchestrated breakfast, meaning you have to sign up for the slot and show up and eat what is served, pretty much no seconds. But this may be just us, we are pretty relaxed people. Needless, to say we looked for food option around the hotel and there is a great Korean restaurant just next door.

A very impressive 140-year-old iconic hotel housed in traditional buildings spread over a large and beautiful area, the rooms are large and very comfortable. The personal service is exceptional, the design, the facilities, the furniture and the gardens are all top quality.

We personally were disappointed by the quality of the food. For dinner at the hotel's luxurious CASCADE restaurant, the food is served on beautiful plates but mediocre in taste, we received four expensive sirloin steaks that were thin and dry, not at the level of Japanese meat known for its quality.

All round brilliant hotel with amazing onsen, incredible room and lovely receptionists. Would have given it a ten out of ten if it hadn't been for one of the bar staff telling us to vacate an empty seating area by the reception whilst it was pouring with rain outside. But did I mention the incredibe onsen?

Would have given it a ten out of ten if it hadn't been for one of the bar staff telling us to vacate an empty seating area by the reception whilst it was pouring with rain outside and after we'd just checked out. Bit rude, I thought, especially as there were no other customers.

Beautiful, historic property with a comfortable but luxurious feel. The room had a stunning view and the onsen was very relaxing. The dinner was good food.

The location can feel a little far, but there is a bus stop right next to the hotel property.

We'd previously stayed at the Fujiya before the refurbishment, and I really liked the small drink lounge and new top floor onsen which was added. The onsen is not the most stunning in Hakone, but it's pleasant and just what I needed to help me fall asleep. During our previous stay, I didn't eat at the hotel, but this time we tried The Fujiya Main dinning room for breakfast. Service was extremely elegant and they offered a vegan option which was completely unexpected, but a happy surprise. Usually I'm not fond of salad for breakfast (I prefer it for lunch or dinner) but the Fujiya's dressing made it a highlight. I was not driving, so paid I believe 500 yen additional for a Mimosa. It was well balanced Mimosa, not too boozy but not lacking in alcohol. My tween really liked her fruit smoothie. What they called a pancake seemed more like a crepe. The dinning room itself has some great woodwork

The beds are definitely on the hard side for my taste, but this is a problem in Japan in general. I also find pillows in Japan tend to be too soft or too hard and the Fujiya falls into this trap as well.

Very nice hotel and rooms in a huge complex, with a lovely garden, big onsens and bakery. Located along the bus route from the main train station and we also got the train which was a 5 min walk away to the Hakone ropeway. Would love to stay here again!

The restaurants were quite expensive and fancy for us but there was limited choice of restaurants in the area. Would recommend if you like fine dining.

A unique experience like going back in time where things were far more gracious. Fascinating history to the hotel which is very well conveyed by photos along the wallls and in the hotel museum. Loved seeing the photos and explanation of how once there was an entire operation devoted to printing the hotel menus. And the water - i swam in the mineral water indoor pool, i soaked in the bathtub, i soaked in the open air Onsen - what a wonderful and relaxing experience. The hotel is also very close to hiking trails in the National Park which were wonderful and green to walk. Dinner and breakfast were in beautiful rooms. The hotel is very large but has many lifts as well as stairs.
