It was an excellent hotel but this is reflected in the price, which is quite a lot. The staff were friendly and helpful and all amenities were clean. The Onsen spa was nice to try and felt very clean. The shuttle bus to and from Odawara and the cable cars was very handy!

It was further from the centre of Hakone and the town than I realised, and I was not aware of the shuttle bus until a few days before when my husband happened to notice it. Therefore we weren't booked on so it would have been helpful to know about this. However, the staff were very accommodating and put us on the staff bus for our return to Odawara station.

Location was quite far from the station (as in you couldn't walk it) but the hotel provided a free shuttle and were very generous in their use of it to assist us. When the shuttle was not in operation they also helped us to book taxis and one night when no taxis were available they even sent a car down to collect us as we were stranded at the Gora station. Really enjoyed our stay- biggest room we had by far of any of the hotels we stayed in in Japan

I think the food is a bit overpriced for the quality. Its fine but could be improved. Breakfast was good, dinner so so.

The location, staff was super friendly and helpful and the hotel was serene and peaceful. Everything was amazing

You need a taxi/car to get to the hotel which is common for the area. The hotel provides a shuttle service to the common areas.

Hyatt Regency Hakone Resort and Spa was a last-minute change to our itinerary as the ryokan we had booked refused to cater for a wheelchair user. The Hyatt is well situated in Hakone, the hotel is set in a beautiful nature space and comprises two buildings, which are interconnected by a walkway. The room is spacious and provides lots of space even with an extra bed placed in the room. There is a nice sofa, a large flatscreen and an indoor balcony with tea and coffee facilities. In the room, there are Yukatas and traditional Japanese outfits for the guests to wear in the room and around the Hotel. The hotel provides aluminium bottles of water that can be refilled in a water dispenser in the hallway. Parking facilities are available and come complimentary. The living room has a lovely chill and nature-inspired feeling with a big fireplace for you to relax. The hotel offers 3 different places for food, catering to Western and Japanese options. There is a hotel shuttle bus available for various destinations in Hakone, the Spa in the hotel provides Onsen for the hotel guests as well as a comprehensive menu of spa treatments. You feel welcomed and taken care of by the Hyatt team during your stay.

The service around the fireplace and living room could be improved, the staff is nice, but very slow and disorganised in their service approach. The second thing that should be improved is catering for allergies! We had to get into an argument with multiple waiters and their manager as the cook could only provide a club sandwich, out of a sizable menu, for a person with a garlic allergy. This was very poor and is not acceptable for a hotel of this class. The F&B manager saved the day and took charge, but this was after a long debate and being told that the club sandwich was the only option by multiple staff members.

Quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious and convenient. Room was huge and enclosed balcony was nice. Staff was friendly, helpful, and easy to communicate with. Easy access to cable car which conveniently connects you to Gora and the Hakone Ropeway during the day.

Room was really hot and adjusting the thermostat didn’t seem to have an impact. Shuttle service and cable car hours are limited and end early and taxis are not always available, so if you leave the resort in the evening for dinner it can be really difficult to get back (walk up is long, steep, and dark). Other reviews mentioned amazing views and our view was just OK (big rooftop of neighboring building). At this price point my expectations are pretty high.

Location, luxurious hotel, wonderful lounge with huge open fireplace, food excellent, beautiful onsen and facilities!

They have a bit of a problem with their restaurant. Breakfast was cold from the buffet, they ran out of many foods at dinner time and second night was appalling as food arrived at all different times so my wife and I ended up eating separately! General Manager came to see us personally to apologise and comped the meal but would rather have had it all perfect as the food was actually very good . Despite all of this the hotel was so good still have a 5* review overall !

This is a superb hotel. We loved every minute of our stay here. the design and interior are modern, the staff is amiable and attentive and the food is exquisite. We would have loved to extend our welcome if not for the hefty price tag.

We were contacted in regards to our preference of dinner choice: Western Style or sushi. We chose to have one and one but were a bit disappointed to find that "sushi" meant kaiseki since we are not huge kaiseki fans. The food was top notch but we might have decided differently had we known about the specific nature of the dinner. Other than that, the spa area could be renovated and changed to match the rest of the beautiful modern hotel.

A very comfortable hotel, well-positioned in the hills, with an excellent onsen. Shuttle services were very efficient taking us to and from Odawara and local attractions. The nearby Open Air Sculpture Park and the Enoura Observatory [further away] are both a must-see. The staff were helpful, and our inclusive tariff provided excellent dinners and breakfasts. The mountain-side train is charming, and the funicular over the volcano crater is exciting.

All Hakone hotels appear relatively expensive and this was better value than most [especially with the inclusive meals] but this option is not a bargain - but still worth the visit.

There were lots of European dishes on the menu and thought that it could be a disaster to eat that in Japan. But the food quality and dining was consistently top notch. I later read that he chef has a long time experience in working Parisian Michelin star restaurants. But I could tell it wasn’t just standard average hotel food, it was consistently delicious, there was some skill. Sushi from the other restaurant was also tasty. Free evening drinks in the lounge were a nice touch, enjoyed daily Champagne. Also, some rather delicious Chardonnay on the menu by the glass. One young waiter made our stay exceptional as he was very good with our 1.5 year old son, he made us feel welcome every time, that was sweet, thank you.

The hotel isn’t super flexible with kids running around after certain time in the lounge area as a lot of other guests just go there for drinking and socialising, there’s a certain atmosphere.

Hyatt Hakone is a simple , neat hotel tucked away in a quiet place. The onsen was quite a lovely experience. The spa needs prior booking or it gets booked up very fast. The breakfast was a lovely spread. There is a shuttle to Gion so you have to rely on that service between 10am and 6pm. Remember to reserve a table at the restaurant for dinner early on.

If you set expectations right there is nothing to be disappointed about. Hyatt is a hill station resort. Hakone is a quiet town that sleeps early. Everything winds up by 5pm. Nice place to walk around in the summer. It’s easy to get lost walking about so keep your gps handy. There are barely any English sign posts around.
