Beautiful view of the shrine from our room on the 4th floor. Room was very spacious and we had western style mattresses, which was a bit more comfortable for us. We had dinner and breakfast included, which was great! For breakfast, there was a choice between Japanese or Western. There were no options for dinner, just Japanese but they catered for my partner’s dietary restrictions and the food was great. We also enjoyed the private onsen, which you can reserve for 30 mins. The staff picked us up from the ferry terminal and brought our luggage back down to us in the afternoon so we could spend the morning wandering around. Great service, would definitely stay again.

The hotel is in an excellent location, quiet, amazing views, but within the town. The room was large by Japanese standards, with very comfortable futon beds. Bathroom was good. Staff were very kind and helpful. Food was outstanding and varied. Van shuttle from and to the ferry was prompt and welcome. We would definitely stay here again in Miyajima.
Only minor things. There was a very slight musty smell in the room, which I suppose can be normal in a very humid atmosphere. The hotel assessed a credit card payment fee upon check-out, which was the only place in Japan during our two week stay that did so. This was annoying, especially when the daily rate is so high.

We had a big gorgeous corner room on the 3rd floor with two big windows overlooking the sea and the O-torii, which was very spectacular. The staff was very friendly and the Japanese dinner they served in the evening was very nice and tasty. When you arrive on the island, you can leave your luggage in a locker and stroll through the town, visiting the Itsukushima shrine and other monuments before heading to the hotel. Once at the hotel you give your locker key and they will pick up your luggage by car. They can also collect you from the port after 3pm and they bring you to the port by car the day you are leaving.
The mattress we slept on was very hard and thin. I had the feeling I was literally sleeping on the floor. I was a disappointed by the outdoor bath. I thought it would be open and you could look at the sky, which we had experienced at other places, but it was completely closed, so I didn’t get the outdoor feeling.

We got the Japanese-Style Room with Mountain View and it was big and beautiful. This ryokan is tucked away from the crowds. It is super peaceful. When we first arrived it was a bit warm but the air-conditioner worked great. Also they have a private onsen that overlooks the torii gate. The trees were a bit more grown then photos I saw but you could still see it. Make sure to book it when you first check in. Unfortunately, we did not get the dinner or breakfast so I cannot review that but I saw other reviews that said it was great!
Be prepared when coming to this ryokan to hike up some stairs. We did it several times and it put me out of breath. ha I would highly recommend letting them pick up your baggage from the boat terminal lockers, as well as getting them to drop you off the next morning.

We booked the room with breakfast and dinner included, and we were so happy to have done so! Both meals were very substantial, and we had different meals each time (not the same food for for the second dinner/breakfast). The local specialty oysters were huge and we particularly enjoyed the sea bream sashimi and tempura (in season when we visited). There were not many local restaurants open for dinner so getting dinner provided by the hotel is a major plus. We attended meals in yukata which also added to the atmosphere! The location was great, easy walking to the shrine and all rooms seem to have a view of the great Torii and pagoda. Also close to the aquarium. Plenty of free roaming deer around our area as it is a little less populated than the main shopping/food area. There is an indoor onsen available to all guests but we did not use them because there is a bookable outdoor onsen which is nicely done up and also has views of the Torii. Staff were very helpful and friendly, providing shuttle service to/from the ferry port and insisting on helping with our bags (even though they were quite elderly!) We are definitely recommending this ryokan to all our friends/relatives thinking of travelling to Miyajima :)
Very minor point but the hotel is located opposite the town from the main shopping and food area (i.e. hotel -> shrine -> shopping) and the area around the hotel has fewer food options - not much of an issue since we got dinner at the hotel. It is also located up a flight of stone stairs which might be difficult for travellers with mobility issues.

The room is beautiful. Exactly as pictured and very large. The facility is older but that adds to the charm. We enjoyed the dinner and breakfast. We were not expecting much for the price of this ryokan but the food exceeded our expectations! The service was wonderful and the views are beautiful. Japanese style with tatami mat flooring and futon beds. The beds were more comfortable than we expected as well. The staff is excellent and the location is PERFECT for a quick walk to the town and sights. Wonderful stay!
The public Onsen on the property is very small. There would not be enough room for more than 3 or 4 people at a time. The Onsen is also open to both males and females. There is a large tub in each room that can be filled for soaking and is much more private. The tub is in the shower room with no view or windows.

The location was exceptional and our room on the 4th floor was very spacious and light with an amazing view of the shrine. The private Onsen was ok though I’m am still not clear on whether it was just a hot bath or whether it had any healing salts in it. The pick up and drop up service is good though we had some confusion about our collection time. The staff were helpful and, as always in Japan, polite.
Unfortunately we were not enjoying the Japanese food and so the dinner menu at the hotel was not to our liking or enjoyment at all. I am sure that the quality of it was very high but it was not for us. Some choice works have been preferable for Westerners

My wife and I stayed here for the 8th leg of our Japan honeymoon. The ryokan offers a shuttle service from the port station to the property which is very convenient as the ryokan is half way up one of the mountains/hills on the island. The staff here were very friendly, and my wife and I were glad that we had learned some basic Japanese as we used it the most during this stay. While the staff do speak English, their English is limited, so I recommend having some translation app or preparing phrases for the common interactions you'd expect to have at a hotel/ryokan. We were a little wary that our rooms at this ryokan would be cold and dated like a previous stay during our honeymoon, but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was very large, and had a modern ceiling-mounted air conditioning/heating unit. The view from our room was stunning, overlooking the 5 story pagoda and bay. The Itsukushima Shrine was just slightly out of view from our window, but was very visible from the patio. We had the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast here, and the food was simply outstanding. Lots of sea food, which was great. They do ask you for your allergies in advance and we witnessed one couple sitting near us complaining that they were served a dish they are allergic to -- so make sure you inform them as they ask you for a reason! The staff here also made sure to get us a reservation for the private open-air bath on check-in, which was really nice as our previous ryokan didn't help us with this. The ryokan is just a short walk from the Itsukushima Shrine, and provided a walking map in our room which was pleasantly unexpected. We also experienced our 6.4 magnitude earthquake during our stay at night, which was exciting! Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here. We wished we had stayed more than one night. The island is beautiful and not crowded at all -- even during peak season -- and I'd definitely stay at Jukeiso again given the chance.
Nothing comes to mind.

We wanted a Japanese cultural experience and Jukeiso did not disappoint. The most amazing food, with delicate flavours and perfect presentation. We enjoyed the private bathing experience (there’s a public bath also). Our room was huge and spotlessly clean. We chose and recommend a room with a view to the floating torii gate. Nice bathroom and toilet in the room. We were served tea on arrival in our room. Our bags were brought to us from the luggage locker at the ferry terminal (because we had lunch and did the ropeway trip before checking in). Traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast were delicious. Amazing staff. We loved our stay and will always remember.
(Not a complaint) we discovered that our 60+ bodies aren’t built for sleeping on futons.
