The hostess was absolutely amazing! She learned our very foreign names, spoke to me in easy Japanese, and to my mom in English (as much as she could), gave us suggestions on where to go, told us to go see the gate at night (which was incredible and something we wouldn't have done otherwise), tried to learn our language together with who I'm guessing was her son. She was always extremely nice and helpful to us and made us feel like at home. The place is also very conveniently located only a minute's walk from the port, making getting there and around the city very quick and easy. The rooms were clean and had everything you'd want, including free Wi-Fi.

The beds in the western-style room were a bit rigid compared to the usual hotel ones (though some might prefer it). We also weren't big fans of the Japanese food, though that's more down to us than their cooking skills.

The room was fantastic, meals were fabulous and the little touches of the fresh flowers in the room, hallway and the restaurant were really nice. The owner was lovely!

I liked everything if I came back to visit japan. I'm definitely staying there again, The owner was a lovely lady who made you feel at home called us by our first name during our stay, we booked dinner and breakfast the dinner was the best meal I've had in the 16 days I've spent in japan so far everything was fresh and tasted amazing, the continental breakfast was lovely and big , the room was spacious with a view over the water and terminal overall the best stay I've had in japan so far.

I only stayed 1 night. I would have stayed more nights even though 1 day in myajima Island is enough to see everything

We stayed at the Yamaichi Bekkan for 2 incredible nights and were treated like family from the start. Shinko, our hostess was so welcoming, warm, and genuine. Our chef, Teppei, explained the beautifully prepared, incredibly delicious, many-course meals and the local ingredients. Both Shinko and Teppei were so fun and engaging to talk with and learn from. Our room was clean, beautiful, and bright. The location was wonderful, just across the street from the ferry and only a 10-minute walk past a bunch of shops to the Otorii Gate. The best part of the experience was getting to know Shinko, Teppei, and the server, Yoko. Their warm smiles and conversation every time we came in the door made us feel right at home. The meals were also absolutely exceptional, and we were so happy to have both breakfasts and dinners there. Teppei described each course with passion and enthusiasm, not only listing ingredients and cooking methods, but with personal stories of favorite Japanese customs. The dinners were elegantly-presented, delicious, and changed from one night to the next. For example, one dinner included seafood chowder, sashimi, dumpling soup, rolled egg omelets, beef, tempura vegetables and seafood, miso, and cheesecake. They also checked with us about dietary preferences and would have adjusted appropriately. We can't recommend this hotel any higher. We connected with the people there and the location so comfortably and so easily. We did not want to leave.

It was close to the ferry terminal and next to a 7/11 store. The staff were amazing, especially the host. She was a remarkable lady. The Japanese breakfast and dinner were outstanding. Every course was explained. There is a western breakfast available as well, that I had one morning - omelette, toast, fruit, juice, coffee. The room was simple but had everything we needed. I would stay here again. We stayed two nights and the evening meal on the second night was different (but equally as delicious) to the first night. It is so beautiful walking around the island when the day visitors have left. It is so peaceful. There are very few places open for an evening meal on the island. There are quality hand made products to buy and the ropeway and walk to the top of Mt Misen is worth the walk.

Nothing

Our stay here was wonderful. The proprietors were incredibly sweet and helpful, with hands-down the best service we experienced while in Japan. We booked a Japanese-style room, and for 2 people, it was very spacious (including 2 washrooms). Our dinner was stellar, and we were given a little backstory on each dish that came out. Miyajima Island gets very quiet and peaceful in the evening when all the day trippers go back to the mainland, so it's nice to walk around after dinner and get some night shots of the torii gate, and the lights across the sea. The ryokan also happens to be right next to the ferry station, so getting in and out is easy. Would absolutely come here again.

Everything was exceptional - no complaints whatsoever.

The dinner and the breakfast were included in our booking and truly they were both amazingly good! The owners are really super nice, willing to help us in our stay on Miyajima island and recommending us best hiking routes to go to mount Misen.

Nothing really, maybe the bathroom was a bit small, there were no light-blocking curtains so we were up early and the pillow are basically bags of rice but honestly it added to the traditional experience of the room so it did not bother us at all, and the sunset on the Torii in the water was priceless.

When I took the decision to spend on night in the wild island of Miyajima, I was just thinking at nature, landscapes and some ancient temple to visit. After I have been there, I can say I got much more: it turned to be a true immersive experience in the culture of Japan, thanks to the Yamaichi Bekkan amazing hospitality and delighting food. I spent in Yamaichi Bekkan just one night, having dinner and breakfast there. And it was the last step of a two-weeks journey across the country, definitely the best way to end-up my travel, taking with me the best memories of the whole vacation. Yamaichi Bekkan is a “ryokan”, a traditional Japanese guest room. I opted for a traditional room  where you have to sleep on a fouton (a very light and folding mattress) laying on a “tatami” floor (they offer also rooms with conventional bed and mattress). Even though I was a little bit scared about that, it was a very comfortable accommodation. The location is very central, a few meters from the ferry wharf, the room was rather small (not smaller then in others hotels in Japan) but with a wonderful view of the sea. Not only was the family owning the ryokan very welcoming and caring, but I also enjoyed their cuisine very much: They offered a 7 courses traditional dinner, an exceptional experience of Japanese food as I never had before. Last but not least the owner was generous of advice useful for visiting the island.

My only regret was that I should have spent more than one night there!

Shinko, her son and staff are amazingly friendly and caring. She remembered that my daughter and I were traveling to celebrate her college graduation and I booked this about 8 months ago! It’s a small family run inn with delicious food (not as traditional as a ryokan which we preferred). Clam chowder, sashimi, Waygu beef in a red wine sauce and shrimp tempura with vegetables were all delicious! So was breakfast. Not sure if we got an upgrade but our room was huge, with 1.5 baths and so much space. Beds super comfortable bc was more like a mattress than a tatami mat. She and I had some wonderful conversations and I was misty when I left. Would love to return and stay 2 nights

Pillows a bit hard.

The ryokan was so amazing, and the okami (Shinko-san) was so hospitable to us! She provided everything we needed during our stay. The tatami room was big and overlooks the town, and the futons were very comfortable! It had everything you needed: towels, toothbrush , razor, soap, shampoo, hair dryer, etc. Yukatas were also provided. The 7-course kaiseki dinner was simply delicious, and the chef (Teppei-san) is very accommodating to your needs (vegan, vegetarian, halal, gluten-free, etc.). Breakfast was also amazing, and they have either Japanese or Western style according to your preference. The hotel is very close to the ferry station, so you can arrive early and drop off your luggage, then continue to sightsee Miyajima for the day.

Nothing! This was a highlight of our trip!
