The atmosphere was incredibly relaxed. There was no need to present a passport or residence card upon check-in, which made the process smooth and stress-free. I appreciated the trust the staff placed in guests, from fitting our own sheets to tidying up after ourselves. Of course, the staff still cleaned daily, but it was nice to feel entrusted with that level of responsibility

While the freedom is refreshing, I did have some concerns about it being potentially taken advantage of by other guests, particularly regarding the cleanliness of the sheets. However, aside from the plugs in the shower rooms, everything else was generally well-kept, and I didn’t notice many issues.

The staff were so friendly. I mostly interacted with one woman who spoke excellent English and was very helpful. The location is great: walking distance to the bay and Tenmonkan. The rooftop area with a view of Sakurajima was a nice place to relax in the morning (though another building does obscure the view a bit). I love that they offer "green" soap in the showers. The organic ginger ale they sell is also delicious! I'll definitely stay here when I return to Kagoshima.

I stayed on a very hot weekend in August. There was air conditioning in the common spaces, but it was still fairly hot in the kitchen and stairwells. Like many hostels and capsule hotels, if you close the curtain of your capsule, the cool air-conditioned air can't get in, and the capsule gets hot. There was a sliding glass door from my shared dorm room onto a balcony, which was a smoking area and laundry-hanging area. In the morning, I noticed that the door to outside was open about 20cm. I hope it wasn't open all night! That would have made the room very hot. Double check the door when you go to bed because another traveler might accidentally leave it open.

Great location in Kagoshima and the house itself was nice and clean, we loved the quiet rooftop with views of the volcano and the kitchen is very well-equipped. The two-person bunk-bed room was quite small but still comfortable and cozy and the staff was lovely.

It was very loud. Like in most Japanese houses, you can hear everything, but these walls were particularly thin, so make sure to bring ear plugs. Spent an additional night in the dorms and it was very busy, with people coming and going throughout the night. Generally not a social guesthouse at all, but overall still very pleasant.

Staying at the Green Guesthouse is an adventure. The volcano is just across the bay, you can see it from the rooftop. And the building shakes a little with traffic, every few minutes, so you may think it comes from the volcano. There is no bathroom sink to wash your hands or brush your teeth, so you use the kitchen sink. But the hostel is so small and cosy, that none of it is a problem. The location is perfect to take the ferry, few minutes walk to the port.

Smoking is allowed on the balcony next to the room, which is inconsiderate for the non smokers in the room since the windows sometimes stay open at night and people dry their wet clothes there.

Good value for a hostel. Walking distance to shops, convenience stores and supermarket. Lounge area open 24h and we could stay there after check-out. Good kitchen facility, just the dining area is a little cramp. Fridge freezer for guests to use and I observed the staff actually cleaning it out of old foodstuff which doesn't always happen so I'm glad to see the shared fridge gets cleaned! Coin operated laundry available. The dorm room had a small balcony with a line for hanging clothes, though it is also a smoking area in case you have dorm-mates who are smokers then it would not be pleasant. The room shakes when large trucks drive by, although I got used to it quickly. They do like burning incense in the common area, in case you find that sort of thing over-powering.

The hostel/guest house is located very well. It is easy to reach the "center" of the city. It is just a 5min walk. All you need is around and when you want to go on with a ferry and have a night to wait it os located very well. The beds were very nice. I prefere hard beds and the futons on the ground were very nice to sleep on. The staff was really nice. They even had a party on the nice roof top terrace. This was great. If I ever go back to Kagoshima to take a ship to the islands I would stay there again.

There were cigaret butts in the sink of the shower. But except this it was nice and clean.

We stayed here to be near the docks where we would board a ship for Yakushima Island. This was incredibly convenient as it is less than a 10 minute walk away. Also within walking distance of some good food and shopping. Staff was helpful and friendly. The rooftop was nice to sit on at night and even had a good view of Sakurajima when not covered by clouds. Plenty of outlets.

Beds were a bit flat and hard but the sheets were very clean and comfortable. I had no trouble sleeping but my friend did. Wish they had conditioner in the shower room, but they had a liquid combination of shampoo/body wash.

Very chill atmosphere. Friendly people staying at the place and super helpful staff. Our room was very neat and comfortable, air conditioning was great, a lot of fridge space at shared rooms, laundry machine and dryer worked really well and the roof terrace was cozy. They even had a luggage storing service so we were able to keep our big backpacks there while visiting Yakushima. Location was right next to port and not far from the main shopping area. Very good value accommodation!

The location was a bit far from train stations, but public transportation gets you quite close and if you don't have a lot of luggage the walk isn't too bad.

The location is great, the atmosphere is great. Green Guesthouse offers several common areas such as the the first floor, working space, tatami floor and a bar. The third floor has a kitchen with table and seats and also a rooftop. You can do laundry, cook and free coffee is offered. Guests can also write a message on the board to meet up for example. The owner and staff are all super friendly and will listen to your question and concerns. They also provide you with a lot of information about the area and Yakushima if you want information. It’s also possible to rent a bike at the hostel.

For me, the under bunk bed was a little to low I couldn’t sit straight.

We had a Japanese-style room which was clean but quite simple. Shared washbasin, fridge and toilet on our floor and kitchen, showers and washing machine on the floor above. A highlight is the roof terrace which is a really nice place to have breakfast in the morning, and the common room area on the ground floor is also a good place to hang out. We paid a small supplement for a parking place beside the guest house, which was fine, and restaurants, bars and shops are within 10 to 15min walking distance. The guest house is especially convenient for the ferry terminal.
