I reached out to the place very easily from Haneda airport by taking a bus limousine that stopped just at Yamashita Park. From there, it's just a short walk. The hostel is placed in the Chinese area, full of food shops, and also omyage. At lunchtime, that area becomes quite lively. But at night it's very quite. The hostel is small but with all you need for a short permanence. There are lockers for your bags. You can have a towel and free coffee. The host has been very welcoming, and he also helped me find a bicycle rental so that I could enjoy visiting a big part of Yokohama in a short time. Furthermore, I had a very good sleep.

At first, we were a little worried about the locality and the place, but everything turned around the moment we came into Chillulu ! The staff Ito, was more like family to us .. guiding us throughout our stay, sometimes going out of his way to help us through our travel related issues. The place is cozy with space exactly for a person to sleep in. Also the living space is pretty good to hang out. Only thing is for obvious reasons you can’t make noise after 10:00 PM which is to avoid disturbing others The locality is super close to the motomachi station and you’ve got the departmental stores, combini and more all in close range. In a whole, a 10 for the value for money and +10 for Ito and his wonderful family !! Will definitely return back here if I ever come to Tokyo / Yokohama again

If you want a more hotel room like stay, this is not your place . This is more of a hostel for you to socialise and have fun

The hostel boasts a prime location in the vibrant area of Chinatown, just a short stroll from Motomachi-Chukagai railway station. Additionally, it offers proximity to the picturesque Yamashita Park and several other captivating attractions along the way to Minatomirai. Managed by a delightful couple, the hostel provides exceptional hospitality, readily assisting guests with just a simple phone call. Despite its compact size, the space is thoughtfully designed, featuring a cozy seating area and a small kitchen equipped with essential appliances like an electric kettle, microwave, toaster, and induction cooker, along with a selection of useful utensils. Overall, it offers a pleasant and budget-friendly accommodation option.

Everything was very much fine.

The owner was very kind and gave clear explanations during check-in. The hostel is located in Chinatown, which many sightseeing spots and restaurants. I appreciate that a towel was provided at no fee. The bed capsule itself was decently wide. There was a nice lounge for eating, working or chatting. Free drinks were also provided in the afternoon (though I was always visiting so I did not experience it). Concerning transportation, buses and trains are a few minutes away (Motomachi-Chukagai station).

Lockers are small and gathered in a narrow corridor, so try to use yours swiftly. Beds are metallic and light goes through curtains, so I recommend earplugs and possibly a sleeping mask if you are sensitive to light. Only 2 showers and 3 sinks are available, meaning you might have to wait a bit.

The owner is really kind with everybody. He introduce everyone, knows English and Chinese, is interesting by your life and culture. He was really lovely with us ! Perfect location in china town, close to transportation, well isolated from the exterior, with air conditioner. Everything is clean and convenient. The price is really low, I really recommend it !

There is no separation between beds area and kitchen/bathroom area, so you can have noises like air dryer or food smells at midnight or 6AM. Bring ear plugs if needed :)

Chillulu Hostel is in the center of ChinaTown and very close to the underground train station and 10 minute walk from the JR station. If your're hungry like me, food shouldn't be a problem when getting hungry less then a minute there's food everywhere in the block! Shopping mall in Yokohama is 30 minutes walking but its not bad becasue you get to explore Yokohama! Didn't need to buy shampoo when showering cause the tenant's provide what you need other than having your own scrub towel to shower. Water, coffee, banana's is provided. Friendly people all adults and very accommodated. Looking for a spot in Yokohama ChinaTown, I definitely recommend Chillulu Hostel!!

What I didn't like is when visitors who are staying in would not cover their mouth when coughing. I don't want to get sick when traveling to Japan and ruining my vacation.

I stayed in 3 different hostels during my most recent Japan trip, Chillulu was arguably my favorite of them. Built on the second floor of a cafe, it always had a pleasant aroma and was exceptionally clean and well-kempt from my bed to the shower facilities. Ryu was exceptionally friendly and introduced me to the other guests as well as gave recommendations for eateries and attractions where he was able. Along the staircase there was also a list of current events and a map of Yokohama. 5 minutes away was Yamashita Park, 15 minutes away was Osanbashi Pier, this is excellent if you are the type to take pictures of the sunrise as both provide great views of the horizon. Being in Chinatown, there are so many great eateries around. + It had a toaster which makes a majority of convenience store food taste better than a microwave.

The hostel is on the smaller side with only around 20 beds, some oriented parallel to the wall and others perpendicular. The parallel ones seemed far more comfy. Each bed only has a curtain for privacy, meaning sound is likely to leak if someone goes to the bathroom as the corridor is shared by everyone. The space to store luggage eventually became more cluttered as other guests brought large luggages.

The place was so well-equipped and sooo clean! Almost dirtless! Had everything needed for daily life, kettle, microwave, washing machine (need to pay a low price to use) etc. Had 2 shower rooms which I felt was enough, as I didn't encounter any situation where I have to wait very long to take a shower. Had 2 toilets (1male 1female), the male one prohibits peeing standing, which I felt was necessary and smart and quite advanced. The common area receives a good amount of sunlight on a sunny day, was pretty nice! The bed was wide and comfortable for me, I had some good night sleeps. There was an individual light and charging socket in every bed so was very handy. The bed could be squeaky sometimes, but hardly a problem for me. Some lights were saved during sleep time, and you can hear people snore sometimes, so it might be a good idea to bring sleep mask and earplug for someone who has shallow sleeps. The hosts spoke really good Chinese, and was very understanding and helpful in making space for our 6 suitcases. The location was very convenient, just about 5 min walk to major railway station. Also, the Yokohama live action Gundam was within walking distance so was a huge plus for us. All in all, just a satisfying stay with fairly low price. Would recommend for light travellers! Would stay again if I were to travel light by myself!

Almost nothing.

Staff member was very welcoming. Have fit a lot of stuff into a small space

It's a perfect place for travelling on your own. Because the shared space is within the same room as the bunks you have to stay out if you want to talk to the people you have travelled with. I personally really like the layouts where the beds are seperate from the social space so that you can talk to people without annoying people trying to sleep. However I appreciate that this is clearly stated on the advert that this is how this place works so i knew what I was getting myself in for

I loved every minute of my stay. The Hostel is run by a couple and they are putting a lot of thought into the place. The location is right at the heart of Yokohama's Chinatown, in a quiet side street. Free tea and coffee are available 24/7 and there is free candy when the reception is open as well. Everything is cleaned daily and they have body soap, shanpoo and conditioner in the showers. You can also wash and dry your clothes there! Detergent is free. The owners are always helpful and have tipps and ideas for places to see and eat. The atmosphere is relaxed and you will easily find someone to talk to in the common area. They have lockers for each bed. The bunks are spacious, they have 2 hangers, a mirror, a plug for your charger, a little lamp as well as a small area where you can store your belongings. I could fit my big hiking backpack under it easily. I was sad to leave, but I will definitely be back!
