The host is extremely friendly and helpful. I'm pretty sure he runs the place by himself and he does a great job. The facilities are beautiful: traditional look, sliding doors, antique furniture and decorations, tatami mats, heated floors, large family bathtub room with auto-filling tub large enough for 2 people (private bathroom in the room too). If you want the traditional feel this place delivers. Great location near transit and many restaurants. Nice riverside walk about 2 minutes away. Lots of supplies in the shared kitchen area: dishes, cutlery, coffee, mineral water, some spices and sauces, even sake you could try. The host provides a little instruction book that answered all the questions we had (for example, translated instructions for remote controls, recommendations for places to go, etc.). As a final note, the host even drove us to the train station when we left! We hope to stay here again!
The only downside we could think of for this place is that due to the style of building sound carries: you can hear other guests. Any place with this kind of design will have the same problem though, so I think you just have to be okay with being quiet and hope other guests show the same respect. As an after thought, it would be nice to have some microwave safe dishes and a tray for the toaster over to make heating up food easier.

This place was a wonderful surprise, traditional ryokan-like inn with a big and beautiful room, which felt more like a small museum than a city-centre hotel. Old timber, traditional Japanese tatami, slippers and futon with a view on a pretty little Japanese garden. The owner was extraordinarily kind, and knowledgeable about the area. Offered to help with booking anything we wanted to visit and rushed to the resort to let us in because we showed a bit earlier than expected. This is not a fully-staffed property which makes it more cosy and human. The owner speaks good English which was extremely useful for us. The location is good, a 5 to 10 minute walk from the metro line and close to the river and restaurant. It's situated in a traditional and quiet Kyoto street. This added so much magic to our trip. Strongly recommend!

We had a lovely stay at this ryokan in Kyoto! It has a long history, and it was a new experience for us to sleep on futon beds in this traditional Japanese setting. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. The ryokan is situated in a calm street and on good walking distance to restaurants and the closest subway for visiting attractions of Kyoto. It was also very close to the beautiful riverside. Our host took very good care of us, gave us good recommendations and even drove us to the station on our last day. His English is very good, and he always responded very fast to messages. Thank you so much for these memorable days in Kyoto!
There was some construction work going on in the street on the opposite side. If you are discovering the city in the daytime, this won’t bother you at all.

Takasen-san, the owner, went above and beyond to make sure our stay was enjoyable. The heated floor was godsend, especially after coming back from a cold, rainy walk. The Ryokan is located by the Takase river and only a few block away from Kamogawa, and 5 min walk to the Gojo Keihan station. The neighborhood is quiet and pleasant.
This is a traditional Japanese ryokan where most of the living takes place on the tatami floor. For those who are not used to this type of living, it may be hard to get used to. Might be helpful to have a couple benches for people to put stuff on.

Biggest surprise: we were picked up by the hotel manager from the station, which we really had not expected. It was a great kindness as we were in fact quite tired, and he took the time to show us some of the important landmarks around the hotel. Helps that he's a funny guy too! Massive apartment on the ground floor, in fact too big for the two of us to use properly! There is a big shared bathtub that can be booked and used, but in the room you have a decent shower. Location is good, near some great cafes and stuff in the morning and easy to get to at night. Some useful access to things like a communal fridge, coffee, etc. Very nicely decorated
The walls are paper thin, so you'll hear absolutely everything happening out in the hallway.

The owner was very friendly. My room was large and comfortable. The heated flooring was very nice. The decor was great. It was near many nice restaurants and in a great location.
It's in an older building so as expected the noise cancelling is at a zero. I could hear everything from people whispering, to birds on the roof, to other guests using the bathroom. If you can sleep through anything then that's no problem. But if you're a light sleeper then you won't get much sleep.

The room was súper big, and fancy, Japanese style, we enjoyed it a lot. Futons were heated, simply great! The owner, really helpful. He took his time to explain us his recommendations for our 4 days in kyoto, he sent us per WhatsApp places and restaurants and he even called to reserve to one. Last day he offered himself to give our family a ride to the station, carrying all our luggage Location convenient, in a quiet very nice quarter, 5min walking from metro station

Hotel staffs are very friendly, accommodating, and always making sure we feel comfortable with our stay, and to get familiar around the neighbourhood. They respond quickly to any of our questions or requests. This property is situated in a quiet and lovely neighbourhood that’s about 20 minutes walk to the landmarks of Kyoto. The house itself is a gem. It’s simple yet full of character. If you’re looking for a unique stay at an old Japanese style house, this is it! The property is clean, smell fresh, and very comfortable. We would certainly return if we are to come back to Kyoto.
This property seems to be made with non-high-tech sound proofing material. We can certainly get the wonderful experience of listening to the meowing sound of the cat next door. You’ll get peace and quiet in this house, definitely could experience what it was like to be a Kyoto residence of the past.

We were greeted by the manager and his dog who was super friendly and showed us to our room at the ryokan. He allowed us to check in early also as we got there before check in time. The place was very clean and full of old artifacts. They even had heated flooring.
It wasn't super close to the main area of Kyoto but about 10-15 minute walk. This was fine for us as it was more quiet and closer to the station but I can see some people finding it far

The ryokan was located just at the city center ok Kyoto, in a very quiet neighbourhood and close to many of the main city attractions. The place was very nice, very quiet and very well restored and the landlord was very nice. The room was big and comfortable, with a separate room for bed, a big living room and a bathroom with shower. Apart from that, the ryokan has a separate room with a bathtub that can be used. It has a small kitchen so you can prepare your own breakfast, which is not included. This really allows you to live the japanese experience of sleeping in a ryokan.
Everything was nice.
