Mimaru is an excellent choice for staying in Kyoto. It's close to Kiyomizu-Gojō Station, which has excellent access to a few famous visiting spots. There are plenty of places to eat and shop around the hotel. It is a charming area to stay. The staff are tremendously helpful and speak excellent English. The room is spacious, even for the three of us. There are other services like transferring luggage to other hotels in different cities, which we think is excellent.

Mimaru removed guests' toiletries to help save the earth. We love the initiatives and think all hotels should do it. It's not an issue for us because we brought our toiletries. It would be great to receive an email about it after booking so people don't assume it's provided since it's commonly offered in Japanese hotels.

All the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly! I can't remember the name of the main staff member who assisted us but he had a British accent and all our interactions with him were to be commended. The check-in process was seamless and easy, which was much appreciated after a long day of travel, and our requests for items during our stay were accommodated so readily. We booked the family room with the bunk beds and really liked the set up of the room; several lighting options were available and we liked the roller doors that could partition the kitchen/living space form the sleeping area. The dual sink set up was handy with four of us staying together as well, plus the larger size of the bath was also appreciated (one of us is over 6ft tall). We loved the location - it's so close to Kiyomizu-dera and several restaurants, as well as the river. Will definitely book here again if we visit Kyoto on our next trip to Japan :)

Fabulous room, super comfortable beds, great little kitchen, immaculately clean, modern and lovely hair and body products. We stayed with our family of 5 and loved Kyoto! The room size was great in Japanese sizing standards and as long as we were tidy and organised we were all fine. Staff were fabulous - many spoke fluent English and also assisted with a better train route for our Osaka trip over the Google maps options. We would stay here again and again and couldn’t have been happier.

Nothing to fault for the hotel at all, just a note for other travellers. We didn’t love getting to the hotel from Kyoto station. We had so much baggage already and we were just having a tired day as we had come from Tokyo and departed our Shinkansen at Kyoto station. We couldn’t be bothered getting the extra two local train lines to get to the hotel, so we did the other suggested route of walking 1.1kms and regretted it. Once we had arrived we were more than happy with the “getting there” part. Having the option to do this again, we would take the local train options, post Shinkansen.

The overall environment is great. We were surprised that the family room was so large, it could accommodate 26-27-inch suitcases for 3-4 people, and it had complete kitchen equipment, such as microwaves, electric stoves, pots and pans, etc. The bed is also great. In addition to the double bed, which is made up of two single beds, the family room also has bunk beds. Overall, I like this small and unique design. Transportation Location: It takes less than five minutes to walk from Kiyomizu-Gojō Station on the Keihan Line. Also, there is a 24-hour Fresco supermarket right next door to the hotel.

The only drawback is that there are too few TV channels. If you want to take a break and watch TV at night, there is nothing to watch.

I really recommend this place if you are planning to travel to Kyoto with small children. The rooms are big enough for you and all your luggage. There's a kitchen area with hob and fridge, so you can cook and store things like milk in your room no problem. There's even a little play area downstairs which our two year old loved running around in before we went out for the day. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They provided information and directions for me when I was looking to buy nappies. There's a laundry room where you can wash and dry your clothes for pennies. Location wise, we found it useful. It was a 20 min walk from Kyoto station and a 15-20 min walk to Gion district, or a 15 min walk to Nishiki market. It's right next to a 24 hour shop with great food options, and it's also right next to a bike rental shop (who sells bikes with kids seats too!) which I recommend as a nice way to explore the city.

Hard to say! The place was clean, the bathroom was full of towels and toiletries, the beds were great and there was a lot of space in the room we had booked. The only tiniest improvement I could think of would be to have the play area open earlier than 9am. Little kids are known to wake up early. I did sneak in their with my son at about 8:30 one morning because he was climbing the walls of our room and asking over and over again to go to the play area. But that really is a minor thing I can suggest to improve.

Definitely and surely will repeat the experience and will look for Mimaru’s accommodations in my next trip to Japan. I always see high rates for their stays and now after staying with them I know why. Very supportive and friendly staff that I have never seen or met before in any other stays throughout all my lifetime trips around the world. They made our stay very special and I think a huge part of the great experience of staying in Kyoto was because of them. I wish I could have thanked each and everyone as they were all very nice 🥹♥️ also, the rooms are very huge and comfortable and well organized. Very excited to check the other branches!

Nothing at all. I believe it is the only stay in my life that I have zero negative comments about

Spacious family room, with lots of space for luggage, a wide dining area and a decent size bathroom. Comfy beds (although mattresses are a bit hard) and good quality sheets. Towels are soft and replaced daily. Small but well equipped kitchenette. Everything is very clean. Nice lobby. Smiling staff. Quiet area with nearby konbini and easy access to transport.

Air-conditioning is a bit undersized and cooling the room requires keeping it at a freezing temperature and a full speed fan. It is not the hotel's fault, but the nearby BooBoo Parking lots have a weird pricing policy and we ended up paying a fortune.

We really enjoyed the location of this hotel - easy walking to convenience stores, restaurants and some great areas - close to trains and some cool local style bars and a nearby sento made it a really great spot. The hotel itself is very lovely and clean, we enjoyed the Japanese style family room which was very comfortable and perfect for our family of 5. Also very handy to have coin operated laundry room in the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful - especially Mac, who helped us out with getting our luggage transported to our hotel in Tokyo and even called them for us to confirm they could receive our bags ahead of our arrival which gave us great piece of mind - excellent service thank you so much. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again if we return to Kyoto.

Great room set up with plenty of hanging space for the whole family and little places to put our suitcases so that they didn't get in the way. There's a laundry room, a gym and a play centre within the hotel as well as a comfortable reception area. The staff were sooo helpful. Most spoke English which made it convenient. I accidentally left my iPad in the room and they immediately called me and organised to forward it to my next hotel. Location was good. Whilst it's not in the middle of the popular areas, there are plenty of buses that can take you directly there. Or it's a pleasurable 15min walk. There is an also a supermarket directly across the hotel.

The only thing was that the corridor on my floor didn't smell good. Just smelt very musty.

Everything: the staff was courteous, helpful and informative. Property is perfectly situated and so clean. There were 4 of us so our room was pretty BIG and soooooo comfortable; spacious sitting area, shower/bath. Plenty of storage. So much space considering a lot of hotels in Japan are tight. I can’t say enough about how comfortable and clean everything was. Location is GREAT with a store around the corner so you can buy food to cook. Shopping mall and shopping district also walkable. We chose to walk a lot cause it was cheaper and we found cool restaurants from wandering the streets. Includes kids play room and even a gym with laundry facilities as well.

Nothing.
