Right from arrival it was 5-star service! Riku picked up on me being a fan of Nintendo and showed me around the building and what furniture and installations are still from the original Nintendo Headquarter this hotel once was. I stayed in the Japanese Suit which was brilliant. The best part to me was the open air bath which I enjoyed for multiple hours. A hot bath in crisp February air. Also the hotel being all inclusive with a nicely stocked mini bar helped to relax and enjoy the evening.

love the food selection from their mini bar. Absolutely high quality and tasty especially their caramel pudding! Loved it Staff very friendly and professional!

By comparing with other Kyoto hotels, I hope they can invest more efforts into the room cleaning, my room was not very clean as there was some hair on the floor and bathroom. And left over dishes and tea pot from previous guests. They helped me to clean the room again, it’s just the first expression not that perfect.

Breakfast was amazing. The building which is an old Nintendo HQ has a very authentic and vintage design with great details.

The pillows are very weird. Somewhat too flimsy. We had to fold it to use it properly. The windows were quite thin and noise from outside could be heard somewhat. There aren't a lot of places to eat or things to see around the neighborhood.

Best stay experience ever! The staff took care of us so well, Japanese hospitality at it's best. Frankly, we have stayed at way more expensive hotels, but nothing came close to how we felt here. Top thinks to like about, 1) Great place with close proximity to Kamo river and pretty much everything interesting in Kyoto 2) Rooms are good sized and immaculate 3) Staff are well trained, speak English and well trained 4) Food, especially breakfast was absolute best! Please have it, especially Japanese one. 5) Nintendo library and make yourself a drink or a cocktail is mesmerising 6) Snacks and drinks if you feel peckish, pretty much anytime.

Frankly, I couldn't fault anything

Marufukuro was by far my favourite accommodation in Japan from its location, closeness to transport options and attractions, hotel vibe, the way it has been decorated, staff, facilities, breakfast, bars & guest experiences. We met so many friendly interesting people staying there which just added to our great experience. We will definately be back to stay here.

There is nothing we did not like about this place and con not talk highly enough about it. We are exited to stay here again on future visits to Japan.

Everything about my stay at Marufukuro was exceptional. The staff was incredibly kind, the amenities were top-notch, the rooms were beautiful and my dinner at the hotel restaurant was one of the best meals of my entire trip to Kyoto. Not only would I absolutely stay here again, I've already recommended it to friends and family as well. The library, the bar, the snacks provided... everything was perfect! Thank you to the entire staff of Marafukuro for making my stay such a pleasant one and I look forward to visiting again one day! PS: If you're staying here, make sure to book one of the balcony rooms. The view was perfect to watch the sunrise and sunset!

Marufukuro is a beautifully appointed hotel in a quiet neighbourhood of Kyoto. It is close to buses and subway stations and is about 20 mins walk from Kyoto main station so it is a very convenient location. The hotel is decorated with classic mid century modern furniture and has retained much of the original features of the Nintendo offices. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, the guest only lounge is a relaxing space to spend an evening and the bed was the most comfortable of our entire trip. The rooms are very spacious compared to average Japanese hotel rooms. It is at a higher price point than we are usually comfortable with but as it was a special occasion for us we splashed out. Everything is luxurious and well considered, so the pricing does reflect the offering. There are snacks and beverages offered at no extra cost and various amenities available including complimentary access to a local onsen. Staff were a delight to deal with and were very helpful.

This was a truly surprising and delightful experience. When I was searching for hotels on Booking I noticed that the room description mentioned it was designed by Tadao Ando. When we arrived at the hotel, we saw Nintendo branding and realized this was the birthplace of Nintendo! The small fridge, and in the lounge area, all the drinks and entertainment were complimentary. The quality of the refreshments and food provided was excellent. After 9pm, they even offer free ochazuke (tea over rice) in the lounge. The location is excellent, and the hotel provides bicycle rentals.

everythingis perfect! But I really hope the hotel can offer some small souvenirs or memorabilia, like playing cards or something similar, for guests to purchase as mementos.

Beautiful location by the Kamo river, makes you feel like you’re living the zen Kyoto life. The staff is excellent and goes above and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay (shout out to Cho-san for his kindness and ever present smile). The complimentary in room amenities are very generous. And of course, being Nintendo we loved winding down in the Library Bar after the days exploring was done.

There were construction noises during the day as there are works happening right opposite the hotel.

Having grown up using various Nintendo game consoles, I loved staying at this historic place. The design of the common areas is gorgeous and the room was very spacious and comfortable (especially after having experienced the Tokyo standards for hotel rooms). Adorable hotel staff, always cheerful and answering any request I had. The location is great, just a 5 minutes walk from the closest subway station and a 20 minutes walk to the main train station. The surrounding area is residential and very peaceful. The complimentary drinks and snacks (including at the hotel bar) is a great plus. I’ll definitely be back when in Kyoto again!

Not really a problem for me but more of a suggestion: when staying more than 2 days, the breakfast feels repetitive (either Japanese or European, but the same every day nonetheless)
