Stayed here for 2 nights and really enjoyed it. The hotel is in a quiet location about 15 minutes walk from Kyoto station. You are greeted at reception where you remove your shoes and leave them in a locker. Sandals are provided for walking around the hotel. The room was a traditional style room with tatami flooring. It was large, very clean with a big, comfortable bed. The bathroom has an amazing, deep cyprus wooden bath and a shower. Breakfast was served to the room and was a choice of Western or Japanese, both were excellent but we preferred the Japanese breakfast. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. Would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

This is one of the best hotel I ever stayed. The staffs are really professional and they really prioritise the guest alot. Offering hand warmer everytime we head out as it is winter. Greeting and bowing each and everytime they see the guest. There are no communication barrier as they speak really good English. Top notch customer service.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel. The staff were absolutely amazing and provided the highest level of hospitality. When we were heading out for the day and it was cold outside, they offered us hand warmers. And when we had to check out early and were going to bus breakfast, they prepared us a packed meal the night before. The room itself was amazing and brought an authentic feel to our stay. The Japanese cedar bathtub was another unforgettable element, and the perfect way to relax after a day of sight seeing. If we're ever in Kyoto again I would absolutely stay here again

I have been going back to Japan for many years. I have stayed in many hotels, ryokans, rental apartments and guesthouses. But Kyoto Takasegawa Bettei is in a completely different league. The quality of service is the best I have recived so far. The cedar bath is fantastic, but as if you like there is a famous public bath 5 min walk away. There are plenty of cafes in the area, where vegetarians will also find something for themselves. The subway and buses are also a few minutes away. Definitely recommended.

The people who work there provide world-class service. From the friendly and efficient check-in process to the just walk out check-out process, I can’t imagine a better way of doing business. Oh, and you won’t believe what happened to us when we got in one rainy late afternoon. The staff was there with towels in hand and an offer of a free shoe dryer. Don’t get us started on the room and the bathtub. Needless to say both are fantastic. I hadn’t had a bath in years. Ha ha, yes I do take regular showers. But both my wife and I took baths on our two nights that were very relaxing and the slight smell of cedar was delightful. Would it have nice if the bath was large enough for two? I’ll let you guess. OK, back to the room. Many Japanese rooms play out like one of those old sliding-tile number puzzles. If your partner moves so are you. This is NOT the case here! The room was big enough without being too big! You can find cheaper places to stay, but you will be hard pressed to find any better.

The location is not perfect, but given Kyoto’s extensive public transportation system and, to a lesser extent, the friendly little bar next door, we’ll stay there every time we’re in Kyoto, which isn’t often enough.

Everything was fantastic from the moment we arrived. Passcode on the door was very helpful, as it meant no room keys to bother with. The staff were exceptionally friendly, helping us sort out luggage transfers and even offering us handwarmers when it was cold out. It was a five star service for sure. The rooms themselves were incredibly spacious and comfortable, with lovely views to the garden. We loved soaking in the cedar bathtub; it was the most comfortable bathtub either of us had been in. Very accessible location too, with plenty of stations close by. Cannot wait to come back here next time we are in Kyoto.

Nothing! Everything was lovely. We had a great time.

This property was great! It was extremely spacious for Kyoto locations. The staff were extremely friendly and willing to help. We had some flight delay issues and contacted the property about our late arrival. They were extremely responsive via messages and very accommodating! The bath was everything we didn’t even know we needed. Best beds we have stayed at in Japan for great sleep after a day of exploring. Overall great experience. We cannot recommend them enough and will be staying there again when going back to Kyoto!

We had a great time here. It’s less than 15 minutes on foot from the train station and centrally located, yet hidden away in a quiet alleyway running along a canal. Rooms have Japanese room furnishing, including tatami and zaisu (great for having breakfast facing the window) but also padded chairs and western-style beds (great for those who don’t want to go all the way and sleep in a futon). Bedding is a single comforter, lightweight and more than warm enough. Mattress and pillow are very comfortable, with just the amount of firmness I like, although this is a matter of personal preference. Guests have to leave shoes in lockers at the door, and put on slippers in different sizes, which in my opinion is a superior system. Slippers too should be removed before walking on the tatami. The bathroom has the ubiquitous Toto electric toilet, with every possible automation, and the bath, in a separate room, has fragrant wooden tub and flooring. Staff is lovely and helpful. Plenty of dining option all around, but get a reservation whenever possible or prepare for hourlong lines. Highly recommended, would return anytime.

It was the comfiest ryokan experience that left me wanting to return again someday. Indeed, there are more traditional ryokans in more remote areas of Japan. However, this ryokan was hospitable to a foreigner like me and spoke in English when I was checking in. My shoes were stored in a shoe locker at the entrance. Then, the staff gave me a pair of slippers to wear on the premises. They also offered a breakfast service for a fee, which I took on, and the next morning, their Japanese breakfast set was nice. The tatami mats were too comfortable and the room was clean enough that lying on the floor felt safe and relaxing. The highlight of the ryokan was their cypress bath. The receptionist explained that they took special care of their bath and after taking my first ever Japanese bath, I understood why baths were sacred to the Japanese people. So, I had to respect the facilities, and rather than using my own soap, I used their provided soaps to keep the bath clean for others in the future. Location-wise, the ryokan was situated in the center of a neighborhood close to the Shichijo subway station, but was an easy 20 minute walk from JR Kyoto Station.

I was in awe of Japanese hospitality that I voiced my appreciation in a bow and a verbal "arigatou gozaimashita" before I left. My stay was so great that I should have booked more than one night here in Kyoto.

The room and the facilities that were included in the booking were amazing. The location was not the most central in Kyoto but was accessible to get to from Kyoto Station and most of the beautiful sights around the area. The staff were particularly attentive and thoughtful, which made our stay very comfortable. The staff were also amazing at recommending various attractions close-by, which meant we made the most of our stay in Kyoto.

The location was a little bit hard to find - it's nestled in between suburban houses and businesses. That being said, it adds a nice charm to the location.
