Amazingly large bed! With a tall guy. The struggle is real for bed space. Here, this was not a problem. It was two full sized beds placed together in a large room. The bed is extremely firm, some would say hard. And the pillows are not soft. However, it is really good for the back and body and we both slept extremely well without hitting each other in our sleep…lol. The staff is excellent, very polite. Their English is good and we had no problems speaking with them. The building and decor itself is just beautiful. It is definitely a fancy hotel, but very open and charming. I didn’t have time to check out the spa, so I can’t comment. We would definitely go back.

Note: be aware that you are charged for local calls. We didn’t know this at first. Also, the shower head is really strong and does not angle down, so be careful about water hitting the back wall and spilling all over the bathroom floor. There is a drain, so they must be aware. It also fluctuated as we showered from hot to cold, not sure if there was a plumbing issue being fixed or just the system itself. Either way, we enjoyed our stay and like I said, we would definitely come back.

The hotel was beautiful and centrally located. Walking distance from the Nishiki market and the more important shrines. Since we were there during the New Year's holiday, we heard the striking of the gong before, during and after midnight from the shrine. For me it was so magical because it was such a different experience. Right across from the hotel is a unique Starbucks with a shrine behind it.

The New Year's Eve dinner was a little disappointing considering the price and that it was New Year's Eve which is pretty big for us back home. We expected something better. We should also learn to manage our expectations.

Great location as it was within walking distance to Nishiki Market (20mins) and across the street from Starbucks as there are 2 close by. Very close to the Metro Train station. Accommodated a family of 4. One room had 4 beds which was a good size as my husband is 6 feet tall and he fit fine. This hotel has a Fresh Spring water SPA on the 13th floor. My daughter and I loved the SPA as they had 4 types of pools and a steam room. You can view it before purchasing which was nice and price was very affordable. Friendly front desk & they spoke English.

It would be nice if they had a smart tv in the room in being able to log on to Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.

Superb location! Walkable to a lot of tourists locations and shopping and restaurant areas. The staff were excellent and they spoke good English. No issues to get messages across. Close to the train station too so easy access everywhere. Rooms were clean but a little bit awkward with certain placement of things. Maybe they were doing the colonial style thing but I think maybe in small rooms it's more important to be practical. Room was esthetically appealing though. :)

The air conditioning units maybe need to be washed or serviced more often as they're quite dusty.

I chose this hotel for the location mainly but when we checked in, the place was pretty nice and spacious and we were able to really feel comfortable with our stay in Kyoto. The heater was working well plus it has great internet connection too. The place was fantastic overall. I do enjoy using the shampoos and conditioner that they provided as well.

I would have loved a bath robe, but I guess including the bath robe with the pajamas can be a bit wasteful and they are trying their best to be sustainable so that was still okay for me overall. I still appreciate being able to use the pajamas.

Wow Hotel Monterey in Kyoto was excellent all around, great location next to a lot of activities, staff was super helpful, good prices including inside parking, and the room was bigger than usual with notably comfy pillows! Thank you for providing phenomenal service at a reasonable price!!

The one downside was the spa did not allow people with tattoos to enter. I understand the cultural relevance. This is an old custom that will hopefully adapt to include everyone. I've never been turned away yet when wearing tattoo coverings but I didn't feel like trying this time.

I liked the room, spacious and clean, the view, the staff was really helpful and nice. The breakfast was really good also! The location was perfect, close to the metro and many of the attractions. Also, the spa is a plus, I had a really good massage there and it has an amazing view over Kyoto. Another plus would be the unique little chapel in the hotel patio.

I would have preferred to have been able to communicate easier with the reception staff when booking a massage. There was a bit of a misunderstanding about booking the service to my room, and I actually wanted to book in the spa. Nothing major, just I felt really bad about inconveniencing the schedule of the spa personnel. Also, the fact that tattoos are not allowed in the onsen was a bit of a bummer :(

The hotel was really pretty, and had really unique decor. It was conveniently located next to Karasuma Oike Station, which made getting into central Kyoto really easy. The room was very clean, and the super king bed was absolutely massive (could have easily fit four or five people), which we loved. The breakfast was exceptional; the dining room was really beautiful, and the food was amazing. There were loads of choices, and the fresh omelette station was incredible. The spa and baths were really lovely and peaceful, and they were great for a morning soak. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be staying here again!

The onsen/public bath at this place is a MUST. Such a lovely place to relax after a long day of walking around. In the ladies bath there is an outdoor section with a view of the city that is stunning. The staff are also very friendly and the location is great.

The room is very small with a king size bed in it and the decor is a little off beat, but who cares I'm just there to sleep. Overall, it was comfortable but definitely tight with large luggage to store. Also, be careful with the shower head. I almost flooded the place because it was on full blast and the wall mount angle isn't adjustable. So it doesn't allow it to point down but rather almost straight ahead. The guest before me had it pointed at the wall and it is a combo tub/shower so the water was running outside the lip of the bathtub onto the floor. If it hadn't been for the floor drain outside the tub and the fact I only turned my back for a second to grab my towel it could have been a disaster. Poor design but the water pressure was obviously on point! Haha!

The location was perfect with the Ikenobo Headquarters across the street where attended the 4 day Spring flower arrangements exhibition held during the height of cherry blossom blooming. There were excellent restaurants and markets within walking distance and taxis and buses frequently passed the entrance.

A couple of the desk staff were not as fluent in English as others, but there was cooperation between them to make sure questions were answered satisfactorily. The desk staff were very helpful when some of our party left room keys in the room.
