The hotel looks exactly as it does in the pictures and yet it still exceeded my expectations. Breakfast is kaiseki style and cold but let's you try a lot of the regional/seasonal vegetables. It's really delicious and nutritious. The public bath was simple but came with a lot of amenities. I was pleasantly surprised by everything and would stay here again.

If you have a lot of luggage... Exit 6 on Karasuma Oike Station does NOT have an escalator or an elevator going up to the street level. There's about 4 mini flights of stairs. You've been warned. Instead, I suggest getting a taxi to and from Kyoto station when you are bringing your luggage along.

Staff was very friendly and helpful.

The bed pillows. Much too thick and hard. Prevented me from having a good sleep. Asked for a different pillow; it was different but still uncomfortable.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff, clean facilities. Two pillows per guest is appreciated. Water supplied daily appreciated. Onsen well maintained as we see staff come in to check and clean bath water. Peaceful atmosphere and elevators come quickly. They were accommodating and let us check in 30 minutes earlier when we asked.

Would be nice if they had more than one rack or install some hooks to hang multiple bath towels to dry as there was only one rack that was big enough to hang one bath towel and we are family of 3 staying in the room. This might help promote people to re-use their towels as there’s no where to dry them.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Particularly the mix between transitional and modern. Quite spacious rooms in Japanese terms. We stayed with our 5 year old daughter and we loved the Onsen. We stayed for 7 nights and loved the location. Close to transport and lots of great restaurants. This hotel is very popular and seemed like there were just big groups coming and going constantly. Staff not particularly friendly but fine. We would stay again

Big groups coming and going from hotel all the time so very packed with bags and people in the very small reception area. Staff seemed swamped and very busy whenever we asked questions.

Lovely hotel in Kyoto city centre, within easy reach of many touristy destinations. The vibe of the hotel was really chilled. We particularly liked the library to hang out. Breakfast was really tasty but please consider other options if you are not keen on a japanese breakfast with rice and savoury food. The opening hours of the onsen were also very good as allowed for some relaxation time at most times.

The only thing we did not enjoy was the corridor coming out of our room as it is basically open to the outside so it would be outdoor temperature rather in than in door one.

Fabulous traditional hotel with a modern back end. The location is great and there is a great free onsen for guests which is very welcome after a day exploring Kyoto, the onsen is also open all night which is great if suffering from sleeplessness or jet lag. It is a short walk to many of the local attractions and dining.

Not really a complaint but I did not expect the hotel to be so large, in reality it has a traditional front end but behind that is a huge block for the guests, which in retrospect means you can avail of the modern amenities. The breakfast is also very traditional and, although some may love it, it was not to our taste, we ended up skipping it most of the time and I would have booked without breakfast had I known (photo's included for reference).

Loved everything about this hotel! Maintained the integrity of the traditional exterior and common grounds with tastefully designed modern rooms. Spacious room with comfortable bed, plenty of complimentary toiletries, and a relaxing spa (with real-time congestion availability via the TV). Friendly and helpful staff. Kim, who spoke perfect English was absolutely accommodating and suggested restaurants patronized by locals instead of the more common tourist traps. Located half a mile from both subway lines and tucked away from the main street I loved the peacefulness, charm and convenience of this property. Also there are many local restaurants nearby to choose from. Just walk around and let your heart and belly tell you where to go. (Pro tip; there is a quaint restaurant called Kitchen 109 directly across the street from the hotel that offers a meal with lovely sides. Just choose your main dish - I had the most tender pork katsu and it was delicious!

Honestly, everything was great but if I were to suggest, please upgrade toilets to Toto brand. 😄

We didn’t realise this at the very beginning but the location was amazing. The little streets of the center are filled with nice restaurants and shops and the best meals we had were on a less than 10min walking radius around the hotel. The old part with the traditional rooms at the front of the hotel is the best part, super beautiful lounge rooms and library. The baths are also really nice, clean and modern. Quite a good relaxing experience after a long day of running around touristing.

The room itself was a bit disappointing, as it looks a bit old and bit up in places. It could definitely need some updating and refurbishment. It was clean though and a good size and layout. Price wise was quite good for the 5 nights we stayed.

The hotel was more authentic than a Western-style chain. The room was nicely decorated and the bathroom/toilet was amazing. The entire hotel was nicely decorated. The HVAC system worked very well. Guests were quiet. Great refrigerator in the room.

Washer/dryer is available on site, but they didn't work that well. We found the room could have used just 1 table or shelf at "standard" height. Breakfast was not that good. I was expecting a little bit of a spread. Instead I had to negotiate a steep set of stairs and a small back room with a big drop to grab a beverage and eat what was essentially a bento box. The location is central Kyoto - just far enough from everywhere to require taxis and subways to go sightseeing.

Hotel is pretty good. Public area is tradition Kyoto house style which is a plus. Hotel staff is very friendly and helps meet all needs. The Onsen room is good, both me and my daughter love it a lot. They even have kids size yukata! Hotel is pretty good, I wish they can have bigger size room can choose. I will love to choose this hotel again.

If there is something more can approve, The hair dryer in room can be more powerful(if can clean the filter part, the hair dryer could work better) other thing is the laundry room is long wait, maybe can add machine, or setup schedlut, and dryer filter need to be clean.
