Our stay at Nazuna Kyoto Nijo-jo was a truly wonderful experience that blended traditional Japanese hospitality with the luxuries of modern life. From the moment we checked in, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and refreshing cups of green tea, instantly making us feel welcome. Our room was a sanctuary of comfort, where traditional elements like tatami flooring met with modern amenities. Everything was spotless, and the climate control system ensured that the room was always at a comfortable temperature. To top it off, we booked in-room massages that exceeded our expectations in terms of skill and relaxation. Dining was another high point of our stay. The kaiseki dinner, with its fresh ingredients and expertly crafted dishes, turned each meal into a memorable event. From one course to the next, we were treated to a culinary journey that left a lasting impression. The location of Nazuna Kyoto Nijo-jo was convenient for exploring local attractions, such as the nearby Nijo Castle. The absence of a natural onsen was offset by the availability of a well-maintained hot tub, which, while not traditional, still provided a soothing experience. In summary, our stay at Nazuna Kyoto Nijo-jo was enriching and comfortable, masterfully combining traditional Japanese elements with modern luxuries. We left the ryokan feeling relaxed and well-cared for, making it a place we'd highly recommend for anyone wanting to experience Kyoto in a unique and luxurious setting. We can't wait to return for another memorable stay.

I'm struggling to come up with things that could be improved. I would have loved it if the ryokan offered to book other excursions or tours. If that was an option, I don't think we were made aware of that.

We stayed here on the last day of our Kyoto trip, and it was a perfect accommodation to relieve the tiredness accumulated over the three days. The staff prepared everything we needed and guided us friendly. The rooms were very clean, cozy and amazing. Dinner and breakfast also gave us the perfect time thanks to the staff's careful guidance and the combination of fresh and flavorful ingredients. Even on the morning of our departure, the staff came out outside the hotel to see us off and gave us the best experience until the end. Next time I will come to Kyoto again, I will definitely stay here again. And I would definitely recommend this place to people around me.

The staff were all very kind and explained everything clearly. The food was amazing and the preparation by staff was excellent! We loved the tea ceremony they held for us at welcome/check in. The private onsen was a perfect size, clean, and we really enjoyed the tea inspired decor and snacks everywhere. The room was sooo spacious and it was stacked with complimentary snacks and drinks! We really enjoyed our stay! Thank so you much to the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

It's a little far from most train or bus stations, so be prepared to walk about 10 minutes in any direction.

Our stay at Nazuna Kyoto Nijo-jo was ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR! Even before we arrived, the hotel was very responsive in answering my questions and helping me make reservations in Kyoto. Once we arrived, we were greeted with stunning hospitality and the friendly staff went over every detail of the property and the amenities offered. The property itself was beautiful--it is further north than most of the "action" and typical sightseeing spots, but it was a nice, quiet, and safe neighborhood and still accessible via public transit. I can't rave about this hotel enough, our family was blown away by the hospitality of the staff and the gorgeous property and rooms. Every thing was carefully thought about and every detail attended to, I would highly recommend a stay with Nazuna Kyoto Nijo-jo!

As I mentioned, it's a bit farther removed in comparison to the typical popular sights to see in Kyoto. The hotel is public transit accessible, but it is a bit of walk (10-15 minutes) if you are coming from Kyoto station. The price is also on the higher end, but the value is WORTH IT. We had breakfast each morning and it was delicious each time.

The staff was amazing, they helped us with everything we asked for. Recommended great restaurants, and it was the best dinner we had in Japan. Made dinner for us when we came from a long day of travelling although they do not offer it. They were just incredible. The rooms are amazing, we spent one whole day in the room and enjoyed the baths and the atmosphere of the room. It left us speechless, just amazing.

The breakfast is well thought out, but the execution is a bit poor. We really enjoyed all the dishes except the main ones on both days. The fish was a bit dry and the meat a bit tough. But this does not make the experience less satisfying.

Perfect staff that were kind, present, and attentive. We had a perfect welcome with matcha, snacks, and a tour. Loved that the fridge was full of local Kyoto drinks that were included free of charge. Loved that there was a tea set in my room that was always stocked. The room was spotless and beautiful. The design was wonderful. Very modern, including rainfall showers, a large, high quality TV, and high tech toilet (even more high tech than the one we had at the Conrad in Tokyo lol). The beds, tatami floors, and table were very comfy, and the plethora of stationary and mobile AC units made adjusting the temperature inside the room very convenient. We ate dinner at the room every night because it was just so pleasant to be in the room. The outdoor onsen was an amazing touch and helped us relax during rainy days and after lots of walking. The room always smelled outstanding.

While it was cool to live so close to Nijo Castle, there was a noticeable lack of popular high quality restaurants within walking distance in the area.

The entire experience at Nazuna was well worth the price! We booked this place with a more traditional experience in mind, and the staff at Nazuna delivered. The customer service went above and beyond any typical accommodations providing us with welcome snacks and drinks. The staff were friendly and accommodating, giving us a room tour and providing tips for the local area attractions. The included breakfast was a full-course meal including food grilled right before you. The location is convenient being 5min away from Nijo Castle and from the Nijo Mae train station.

It was our first visit to Japan. First of all we were amazed by how beautiful this place is. The traditional interior and garden are so welcoming and serene. We had breakfast included, it was our first try on traditional multi-course Japanese breakfast, and it was exceptional. There's no single dish that we did not like! The tea bath were sooo good, especially after a whole day of roaming around Kyoto. Above all, all the staff are wonderful, they always treated us with kindness the whole time we stayed here, and were always so helpful, and the things that they pay attention to up to the smallest details to make our stay even more memorable is what makes this place so special to us! Definitely would love to come back 💕

Nothing. Everything was great

everything! my family of 4 and I got the suite and found that the property was clean and comfortable. all the amenities were properly replenished and everything in the mini bar was free for consumption, including the sake and wine! the shower facilities were really nice and comes with a rain shower + massager. the open air bath was incredible with views of the night sky and extremely comfortable hot water during the cold night. the futon beds were fluffy and overall we had a really good night sleep! the best part of this was the staff and how welcoming they were at the ryokan. my family and I arrived late at 10pm and nevertheless the staff welcomed us into the property by having our bedroom slippers well laid out and ready to serve us tea. they brought us up to our room and showed us around the suite to ensure we knew where and how to use the different facilities. they were super detailed and spotted that my father’s birthday was that day (during our check in while filling up the particulars) and brought us 4 cakes and a hand written birthday card. super thoughtful!! the breakfast at the ryokan is a must have!! the grilled vegetables were extremely fresh, and it was great to chat with Momoka while she was grilling the vegetables for us. we had the fish as well and it was extremely well cooked. the breakfast ended with our choice of coffee or tea which once again was top quality. I didn’t manage to get the name of the staff on the night of check in but huge shout out to the amazing staff: Momoka and Nao. they were both incredibly helpful in recommending sights to visit for us and in preparing us for check out.

nothing! location was a bit far but that helped to ensure the experience at the ryokan was a really relaxing and peaceful one.

We loved this accomodation and it was the perfect stay for us while visiting Japan for the first time. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The hotel and room itself was amazing!! Everything was absolutely perfect and we definitely recommend booking this Ryokan if you stay in Kyoto. Thank you for everything. (My SO got a really cute card with an One Piece drawing from one of your staff members, that was appreciated!) Hope we'll be back. Erika & Adam
