Real Traditional Ryokan. It's a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station, quiet but convenient. It's close to the bus stop and subway station, and there's a convenience store nearby. The Japanese-style futon is soft and comfortable to sleep on. The shared bathroom includes a hot soaking tub, which is very relaxing. The hotel also offers free laundry service for clothes we've worn, which is great and different from other hotels. The room is clean, and they make up the room and change the towels every day. The staff are true locals from Kyoto and can expertly recommend tourist spots and travel times. They also suggested some delicious restaurants for me.

3 of 4 toilets are Japanese style. It would be great if more Western-style were added.

This Ryokan was excellent in many ways. First, although the place is within walking distance from Kyoto station, you can also take the subway right next to the location (in case you have large suitcases). Second, it is pet friendly! They accepted my and my small Chihuahua, and they also respected my wishes to put off cleaning in order to allow my dog to roam freely in the room. Third, the staff are so friendly and accommodating! My partner couldn't sleep because of some noise in the next room and so the staff happily moved him to a quieter room IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT! They were wonderfully accommodating! æœŹćœ“ă«ă‚ă‚ŠăŒăšă†ă”ă–ă„ăŸă—ăŸă€‚

If you are not used to sleeping on Japanese style futons (like myself) then you might not have a very comfortable sleep. However if you like hard mattresses (like my partner) it will be like a dream. Some of the facilities seem a little but unclean at first BUT they are NOT dirty, just a little old!

- Authentic Atmosphere: The rooms exude a traditional Japanese charm, providing an authentic experience. - Spacious and Comfortable: For Japanese standards, the rooms are spacious and well-maintained. The futons were very comfortable, providing us with restful sleep. - Exceptional Hospitality: The staff’s kindness and attentiveness were beyond expectations. They even turned on the AC while we were out, ensuring our comfort as soon as we returned. Their thoughtful gestures made us feel genuinely cared for. - Relaxing Onsen: The onsen-style public bath was a highlight—it felt like a private retreat. The facilities were spotless, and the atmosphere was so soothing. - A Nostalgic Touch: The entire ryokan has a delightful retro vibe, reminiscent of visiting grandparents’ home. The warmth and hospitality make it feel so special and inviting.

It was really cold at night as any other Ryokan so it is better to use AC.

It is a traditional Japanese ryokan. The sento was nice, and seems like I had it all to myself. The room that I was assigned to was HUGE! I was only travelling by myself, but the room could easily fit 4-5 people. Very traditional tatami mats and futon's, quite a experience. I do recommend that travellers book it with meals, as it makes the experience so much better than without meals. Oh, and my room had a private sink, which I wasn't expecting.

Not so much that I didn't like, as I knew what they were as I went in, but guests should know that Ryokan's by definition, and especially traditional Japanese ryokan's in a place like Kyoto, toilets and sinks are communal. Takigawa Ryokan is clean, but it is showing its age. No amount of cleaning will change the fact that it is old.

As it is a traditional ryokan, we mainly stayed here for the experience. The rooms were spacious and we slept on surprisingly comfortable futon beds. We also had our own sink, whereas toilets and bathrooms are shared. Everything was very clean.

The staff was strict with the check-out at 10 am. We were still in our room at 9:45 am getting ready to leave, when a staff member came reminding us of the time. Due to the age of the building, the bathrooms have a humidity problem, which you can smell. However this was only in the bathroom, not in the rooms.

Beautiful Ryokan, comfortable big room, nice staff.

The bath was only open twice a day and I'm still not sure if I was allowed to use it with tattoos, sinks were on the corridor. There was a welcome booklet in the room that stated there would be cooked meals but there wasn't. Curfew was 11pm. I suppose these things are normal for a Ryokan and I should have informed myself before booking l just feel it should be specified in the add

The staff were exceptionally polite, helpful, and considerate. Without asking for it, they offered to do our laundry. Which was washed, hung to dry and meticulously folded and placed outside our door the next morning. Best Ryokan I've experienced in Japan.

Only downsize is the shared bathrooms, but to be honest it is not that big a problem as the feel and intimacy of the whole place sort of fits the setting.

Smiling owners/ staff. They always tried to help in whichever way possible even without a common language. The location was great - 3 min walk from the Gozo station one stop from the main station. 15-30 mins from anywhere central. The indoor Onsen was great too!

The doors are not made for tall people. Hit my head twice entering my room haha!

Authentic Japanese experience! The personel was very friendly and helpful. The location is great for sightseeing and everything you need is just around the corner. I loved little onsen where I could relax after tiring day - not new and nothing fancy but clean and very relaxing. Great that you can get laundry for free!

Staff are welcoming. They did our laundry for us, for free. The room is a good size and comfortable. The location is brilliant, very central. Very good for the price given the location.

The staff dont speak much english, so use google translate if needed. The facility is outdated, especially the onsen area is very old and not refurbished.
