Pokémon room was a surprise for the kids, they loved the decor! Staff were friendly and helpful. Not sure if Japanese washlet toilets are the norm in all hotels in Japan, but our bathroom had them and adds to the experience of travelling in Japan. Property had 3 washing machines and 3 dryers available for guests to use on the ground level (coin operated), and open 24 hours. Walking distance to Ueno metro station and Ueno station, about 10-15 min walk.

Not big issues, our bathroom could be better ventilated as it gets a bit steamy and low and high speed seemed the same, but the room did dry in the end. Also, the laundry dryer takes a bit long to dry the clothes, so don’t overload. Having the door to the laundry room opened did help, maybe have a sign to advise to keep the door open.

Very large room! A 5 min walk to the ueno trains. The fridge is big like a normal sized fridge, which is rare for a hotel! Plenty of utensil and plates, even has a microwave. There are outlets in the middle of the beds so no worries about using the phone while charging in bed! Not my favourite location to stay in but as far as a convenient hotel with a kitchen near Ueno station, this serves that purpose.

The aircon seemed to have a mind of its own, turning itself off and on randomly so we’d wake up very hot throughout the night. The TV also couldn’t get any channels - not a big issue as we just watched videos on our phone. The kettle takes awfully long to boil water! No oil or seasonings are provided. And no free water is provided by the hotel which was a little disappointing. They did have free tea bags and instant coffee at the lobby though! The location isn’t as close to the heart of ueno as I had hoped. It’s actually on the complete opposite end of the ueno station which has all the parks and restaurants stuff. This is my 3rd time in Tokyo, and honestly I recommend Asakusa over Ueno for a stay!

Staff were amazing, very accomodating with any request. The apartment was perfect for our family of 4. Kids loved having bunk beds. Shower room was huge and having a separate toilet was great too. Heaps of hanging space for clothes and we had 2 large suitcases that fitted easily below the hanging clothes. Kitchenette was great for preparing snacks for kids, good size fridge and freezer. Easy 5 minute walk to Ueno station. Supermarket and convenience stores all within 5 minute walk from the hotel. We used the hotels laundry, never had to wait for a machine…which meant we didn’t have to pack a lot of clothes so had more room for souvenirs. Staff helped us with luggage transfer (very reasonable price) to our last destination so we only had to take one suitcase with us to Kyoto. We are looking forward to our stay at Mimaru in Kyoto.

Nothing.

Its a relatively new place with nicely renovated interiors. It is the most spacious compared to the other places I have stayed on the tip and includes a proper dining table that was a very much appreciated feature. The kids enjoyed the bunk bend. The kitchen has all the necessary amenities and they provide rice cooker too when requested. There is a laundry service conveniently located on the ground reception area. There are a number of supermarkets within walking distance where we can do our groceries. And the major Ueno station is about 8 mins walk to the closest gate. The room cleaning service is good with fresh towels supplied daily. They even lend out games / puzzles to entertain the kids.

There is only one lift to access the 13 floors in the hotel so sometimes there could be a bit of wait during congested periods. There is no dish drying rack in the kitchen. It is not as close to the main Ueno station gates and the shopping eating area around Ameyoko district as desired.

Great location and helpful staffs. A spacious and comfortable room for a longer stay.

The surrounding is kind of noise due to traffics even in the middle of the nights. Siren in the middle of the night or early morning is a bit annoying.

The Mimaru chain of hotels are the best choice for any large family traveling through Japan. We had interconnected rooms for our family of 6 that both had a kitchenette and bathroom. One room had traditional tatami floors which was nice. All the rooms have the traditional opaque Japanese sliding opaque windows and warm light wooden finishes which are really nice. All the beds are a great size and were very comfortable with nice pillows. While there were no amenities like toothbrushes, toothpaste or wash cloths but there was really nice hair products and body wash in the shower room which lasted our whole stay. The place was very clean, and we were offered daily cleaning of our bins. There was a small laundry next to the foyer which had washing machines and dryers. This cost was 300 yen per wash and 100 yen per 30 minutes for the dryer. It was an easy 10 minute walk to Ueno Station which was a great station to get around Tokyo. There was a 7Eleven a block away and a Lawson which was very convenient for quick meals and snacks.

Unlike some Mimaru hotels this one was very small for our family of 6. We felt very squished up and didn't have very much room for our 6 suitcases. We could have fit them on the tatami floored room, but you are not allowed to place suitcases on them, so this wasn't an option. There are no views from any windows, so it feels very closed up. There are also air vents on the side of each room that allows airflow, but we found being in winter that the person sleeping next to it would get a cold breeze and could hear the nearby trains all night.

Room was a good size for my family of 5. Bunk beds were good size for the kids. Seperate toilet and bathrooms were defintely a plus. Kitchen facilities were available. coin operated washing machine and dryer available on level 1. Sound insulation was good, could not hear noises from other rooms at all, and could not hear traffic from the elevated highway just opposite, the blackout blinds were excellent for kids to sleep-in. Bathtub was very big. Staffs were very nice and helpful. Convenience store just a short walk away.

didn't like the fact that amenities like toothbrush, room shoes and etc were not readily available in the room, you had to request them from the front dest - i guess this is to prevent wastage, theft and reduce labour, but still.... understandable if this was a budget hotel, but it isn't. Hotel location is a short walk away from the busy parts of Ueno area, just wished that it was slightly nearer. It's prob a 15mins walk from train station....and a miserable 15 mins if you are dragging luggage.

The location was excellent. Very convenient for trains to explore other parts of Tokyo but also plenty to do locally.

Miscommunication about luggage transfer with staff. I had specifically asked about same day transfer between Tokyo based hotels, and was assured that I could simply drop my bags off in the morning and my bags would be in my next hotel (in Tokyo Bay) on the same day. When I dropped my bags off I was told I needed a reservation for same day and my luggage would not be delivered until tomorrow. This was not suitable for me. So I had to fork out $120 taxi fare to transit as peak hour with two suitcases and two young kids was not going to happen. Also the couches used as bedding or dining table were quite stained.

Check in/Check out was very efficient. Location was fantastic, close to UENO station and market area. Very close to convenience stores and UENO Park and train station which gave us fantastic access to Tokyo, Akihabara and Shubiya.

We were in a family of five which makes it challenging to find restaurants to sit at, however with a bit of discovery, we got there. If we were being picky the apartment could have better touring information, or food recommendations, given reception is manned from 0700 to 10pm each evening but the staff were very friendly all the same.

Perfect for our family of four. The bunks were spacious for the tweenage kids to have their own hideaway space. Had everything we needed and was lovely and spacious for a room in Tokyo. Great access to Ueno station, Ameyoko Shopping District and a quick walk to Ueno Park. Convenience to everything was perfect for our stay and loads of eating options and the convenience stores steps away. Staff are super friendly and welcoming. Windows and walls are super soundproofed so the room is great for sleeping. Thanks for the great stay!
