Very clean, staff are awesome. No awkwardness entering and exiting the building. Perfectly organised cleaning schedules. Rooms are awesome. Very large and great beds and facilities. Stayed for a month and felt like home. Images of hotels do not lie. They are perfect.

The shared washing machines and dryers are perhaps a bit weak and small, still usable though, but there is an awesome launderette about 3-5min walk away with big machines and dryers. Get your whole load washed and crispy dried in an hour.

We stayed in the Family Apartment and the layout was perfect for our family of four (with two teens). There were three separate closed spaces for the shower, sink and toilet areas, allowing everyone privacy and space when needed. The bunk beds were comfy and long enough for my tall teenage son, with chargers and a shelf for their phones. Also, the staff could not have been more nice and helpful. They answered many questions and spoke good English.

My pillows were a little hard but I think that may be typical for Japan. As far as the location, it is a little bit of a walk from the train station to the hotel. Exiting using the Iriya exit makes it a lot easier because it takes you partly there. Ueno is very centrally located in Tokyo and the shopping/dining area just south of the exit was great.

This is the only room big enough for our family of 5. There are 3 doubles and 2 bunk beds. A sofa area. And a bar top like kitchen area big enough for my kids to do their work. Space is a luxury in Tokyo and this place provides it. Not forgetting the staff who are super friendly and helpful! Thank you very much!

A bit far from the Ueno train station. Could have one more toilet in the bath.

The location is truly convenience, it was only a pleasant few minutes short walk to Ueno park, museum, zoo, convenient stores, train station and the famous Ameyoko Street. The room was sparkling clean, has big space with large windows view, comes with air purifier and humidifier, truly a life saver on the dry winter. The beds were super comfortable too, we had nice deep sleep throughout our stay! The kitchen was well equipped with microwave and IH cooking area, complete with full kitchen utensils and accessories. The coin laundry is available for use at the corner of the second floor, costs 400yen for each complete wash and 100yen for 30min use of dryer machine.

At night, the neighborhood might be a little noisy from loud motorbike to constant passing-by of ambulance/police/firetruck. The pedestrian sidewalk near the station also has lots of rubbish, mainly cigarette-butts. Sometimes, there are weird people in full sport's gear who practice sprinting on the center of the road at night, may frighten the kids.

Firm recommendation for larger families/groups. We stayed at the Mimaru Tokyo Ueno North hotel which is made up entirely of suites of various sizes. We had a suite for six (for five of us), three adults (my wife and I plus 21 year-old son) and two teenage kids, 15 & 17. The suite has four single beds, more like 3/4 doubles (based on U.K. bed sizes). Fine for one adult, plenty of room. The beds are quite firm, certainly firmer than I’m used to at home, but very comfortable. Lots of pillows and some of them are double sided with the rice grain type filling on one side. Others are soft like a feather pillow (not sure of the filling but they were just like they were filled with duck down). There’s also two bunk beds which are similar size but narrower. My oldest son, 6ft, had no issue sleeping in it. There’s a kitchen area and seating for six. It’s equipped with a hot plate, sink, fridge/freezer and kettle along with cutlery and plates for six. Sharp knives and chopping board, plus pots & pans under the sink. We didn’t cook in the room, but we bought in bread, butter, cereal and cheese for breakfast to fuel up before we started the day. There’s no toaster, but you can borrow these from reception for no charge (Mimaru hotels have a variety of what they call “rental” items but they’re all free to borrow). There’s a lounge area with TV (all Japanese channels) but we borrowed an Apple TV from reception so we could watch Netflix etc. It’s about an 8 minute walk to Ueno station and about 10-12 minutes from Ueno Centre (lots of restaurants and shops). Lawson and Family Mart within a few minutes for bits & pieces and there’s a larger supermarket in the station (although it seems more expensive than the konbinis for the stuff we’ve been buying for breakfast). The only thing I could say against it, was the lack of shelf space in the wardrobe for things like t-shirts & shorts etc that you’d normally lay flat rather than hang up.

A shelf unit or drawers in the wardrobe would have been useful for non-hanging clothes like underwear etc.

Room was very spacious by Tokyo standards. We were a family of four and each of us had a comfortable bed (1 bunk bed and 2 single beds). Room is also kept very clean. The staff were friendly and attentive. It is also near to Ueno station (JR lines), about 4 mins walk, and you can be anywhere in Tokyo from there.

By no fault of the hotel, it is about a 15 mins walk, if you are coming by the Keisei Liner from Narita Airport to Keisei Ueno, so do have that in consideration (when you come and go to Airport). We took a taxi to spare us the trouble of pushing the luggages for the distance and it is about 600-700 yen

I loved the location of hotel and that it’s a straight shot from Narita airport. I love the kitchenette and the family style rooms. Good thing is the bathroom is separate from the shower. The staff is always super helpful and pleasant. There are laundry rooms within walking distance from the hotel, so that was very helpful. If you don’t mind the walk, it is so accessible to many restaurants and shopping areas. I would definitely choose this location/hotel again.

We booked a 6 bed room and although it was really comfortable, it was a little cramped, sharing one shower between six people. And there was no room to store luggages or to spread them out. The laundry room is always packed so it was hard to do laundry.

The room is clean and tidy. Bathroom is very functional. Well facilitated kitchen with enough cooking tools and cutlery. Happy to have microwave oven to prepare food from supermarket. Fridge is big enough, and freezer is very useful.

The air-conditioning only works in either HEAT+FAN or COLD+FAN mode, the same system in another hotel have three modes, HEAT+FAN+COLD. The default HEAT+FAN mode is too hot and needed to be changed to COLD+FAN mode. No sink in toilet makes it inconvenient that have to wash hands in bathroom every time after toilet time. The water kettle is too small. It's suggested to have drying rack for dishes in kitchen, not the one hanging above the sink, a separate on bench top would be great.

A very comfortable stay at Mimaru. The room was spacious enough which was great considering most hotel rooms in tokyo are very small. There are restaurants and convenience stores nearby. The train stations are a bit of a walk away but hey, it's tokyo; you're going to walk a lot anyway so no biggie. A big thank you to the lovely staff who helped make our stay so pleasant. Overall a great stay and will come back again

Our only feedback is the dryer in the laundry area doesn't seem to be hot enough to dry out the clothes. We had to run it through several cycles to dry it completely. Also would be nice to receive a list of recommendations nearby for a clueless tourist like me. I only found out on the last day that Lawson was just located behind our street.

My experience at Mimaru Ueno North was excellent. I booked a 6 person apartment room which was spacious, comfortable, and pristine. However, the best part of my stay and what made it such an enjoyable visit was the friendliness of the staff. Everyone I spoke to answered my questions with a genuinely helpful and cheerful attitude, greeted us warmly as we entered and left, and gave us some very useful tips to beat the heat. While every single person who worked there went above and beyond to make the stay great, I would like to especially acknowledge Sandra, who helped and chatted with me when I first arrived after a very long journey. Sandra, along with all the other reception staff, was also very accommodating of my group, who all needed to check in at different times because we were all travelling separately. This made what could've been a potentially stressful situation stress free. Next time I travel to Tokyo, I will be looking at Ueno North first.

That I couldn't stay longer!
