This is a small hotel with about 8 rooms in the picturesque village of Barnard Castle. There is room for parking directly beside the hotel with easy access from the main road. The town centre is a short walk away and you are almost immediately able to access the picturesque countryside that you likely came for. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and well looked after during our stay. The accommodation was more than adequate for our needs, clean and tidy, comfortable beds and a good nights sleep. The food was delicious. The breakfast choice is your normal range, the quality is high and the food well presented. You’ll certainly find the usual requirements for your brekkie and if you need anything you just have to ask. We ate two evening meals in the hotel and they were delicious and to a high standard. Steak was cooked to the requested level and fish was battered perfectly. Staff welcome you with a smile and charm that County Durham is famous for. A special mention to Saff for looking after us. She even took time to show me a few of the local sights. Thanks Saff.

The staff were excellent as they kept the hotel part of the building open for us during some renovations in the kitchen or bar area. This meant that we were unable to have breakfast there. However staff warned us about this and compensated us for this. The rooms we hired were spacious and clean with a good bathroom. They recommended a good Indian restaurant and ensured our arrival and departure was easy. We were unable to use the bar area or the outside beer garden but it seemed fine once work was completed. There was good information provided about a wide range of local attractions etc. Barnard Castle is a lovely town to visit. The location was easy to access in a quiet area just a short walk from the town centre. Car parking seemed plentiful.

Very friendly and welcoming staff, from the second I entered the property, to the second I left. It was so refreshing to see how quickly people came to welcome me in, and the great service received. Also, amazing breakfast, nothing too much trouble, and everyone went the extra mile to make sure it was an enjoyable stay. I stayed in room 1, which was very peaceful & relaxing. Very convenient to Barnard Castle and it provided good food and a comfortable bar with a log fire .

For me it’s not the plushness of the surroundings that makes a holiday it’s the staff within. The staff were all excellent and always greeted you with a smile whatever the time of day. Always ready to go the extra mile to help, my thanks go especially to the young lady who phoned me up to tell me I had left my Ipad behind and kindly sorted out having it posted back to my home address..

Lovely quaint little town pub and accomodation. Wonderful friendly staff, easy to find, easy parking, good meals, tariff included breakfast in which was really great, would recommend to others.

Cleanliness, dirty windowsills and cobwebs through venue, no bedside tables in room, and not providing a simple thing like body wash or even a soap was a shame.

The Inn was in a very good location for us and easy to locate. We arrived to a warm and friendly welcome and was pleased with our room. We ate in the restaurant and was very pleased with our meal. A lovely warm fire to sit by and eat and drink. Breakfast was included and it was very nice.

The only problem was that the shower was cold.

I had to confirm the booking via telephone and the person couldn't have been more helpful. Also, email communication regarding a dinner reservation were prompt and informative, especially as we weren't sure of our arrival time. Dinner was excellent and breakfast was amazing.- brilliant portions and good quality food. Service was brilliant and the staff friendly.

The staff we spoke to were friendly and welcoming, being the young lady (possible owner) who checked us in and Stephanie who needs a pay rise as she's a wonderful house front staff member making everyone at ease and nothing is to much bother for her. The room was clean and comfortable, entry if storage space, brew facilities and a hair dryer. Even the traffic didn't overly bother us, room number 6 is on a busy road but wasn't a problem , we slept fine. Breakfast was amazing, plenty of choice and lots of it. Free parking is always a bonus. Would definitely recommend and stay here again

Not a complaint , more of a suggestion, would be nice to have had a container with body wash/soap in the bathroom shower area . Also most TVs nowadays have channels readily available but the one here you have to log in with emails etc, to much faffing so did not access the TV

Staff were very friendly and we got some free wine in our room seeing it was our anniversary - never had that anywhere else before. The cooked breakfast was the best I've had for a long,long time and it was served between seven and eleven so you could have a nice lie in. We had a lovely view from our bedroom window, a tv with plenty of channels and netflix,etc and the plug worked for real in the bathroom sink. The Rump Steak in the evening was also lovely and juicy. The staff also took their time to explain how to use the two remotes for the tv instead of just disappearing and leaving you to it.

Just on thing we had no chain on the plug in our bath so it was okay until you wanted to empty it but we managed to lever it out.

The rooms were basic, generally clean but a little tired. The breakfasts were fantastic. We normally manage a full English and fill up on toast but to be honest we had to have the mini English on the second morning as there was too much on the full!

This is a functioning pub so there is some noise from the bar till closing time, but this didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the stay
