Staff were so friendly and couldnt be more helpful, they provided gluten free and lactose free solutions for one member of our party and gave us a breakfast to take away when another of our group had a hand injury and had to go to hospital. Excellent breakfast and evening meals, we ate one night in the restaurant and one night in the bar area as we hadnt booked a table and was busy but was still lovely. Great location with easy walk to the river, Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle School and many bars and restaurants. Parking was easy. Rooms were very clean, we had fresh towels, tea and biscuits replaced daily. Would certainly stay again and recommend to others!
Room was a little too warm and was on main road so couldn't really open the window but there was a fan in the wardrobe so they must know of the issue, but definitely wouldn't stop us staying again!

Room and facilities were excellent, very comfortable bed and well appointed bathroom. Overall impression was of a clean and well maintained hotel. Friendly and welcoming receptionist was a lovely start, though all staff were excellent throughout our stay. Breakfast was very good and the dining room comfortable. We ate 2 evening meals and 3 breakfasts in total. All was good with dinner. Beers and wines were good value and service was great.
Noisy outside the bar (on the street) on Saturday night, but quietened down after 11pm Parking was a bit hit or miss; small hotel car park was disorganised as it is not clearly marked as to where you're expected to park, street outside hotel can be available but is mostly for disabled drivers/cars. We managed.

The offsite apartment was perfect for a few days away in the area. It’s located across from Barnard Castle itself. It is spacious with a full equipped kitchen facility so we did not use the breakfast service on offer at the hotel across the road. The apartment comes equipped with two tvs in the bedroom and lounge. These have access to YouTube, Netflix etc but we took a laptop with a hdmi cable to plug in to the tv. The apartment also comes with a washing machine, perfect for longer stays here. No curfew at the apartment which we needed as we were attending a wedding in the area, so we were able to come and go when we wanted. Barnard Castle has a number of places to go and visit include High Force Waterfall approximately 25 minute drive from the property for people who like to go walking. The apartment comes with a folder of information on the local area, places to go, places to eat etc and comes with WiFi- password is located in this folder. Overall the offsite apartment was spacious, comfortable and clean. We would recommend staying here to anyone and we do plan to return in the future.
Nothing. Although as it is a ground floor apartment, the bedroom and bathroom window over look the courtyard so we had to keep our blinds downs so other guests could not look in, but I guess this is personal preference. Just a note to future visitors that sometimes parking for long stay can be issue. However you are able to park in the street near the offsite apartment for free.

Our room was very close to the dining area. It was relatively quiet. The food was superb. The service was very good. The overall experience exceeded our expectations.
There were other rooms over looking ours and they could see directly into our room. A simple net on the window could have solved this problem. Being an older couple we retired quite early 10am. It would have been nice if there were two comfy chairs in the room so we could enjoy a coffee and watch a little TV before bed. Without them we had to lie on our beds while watching TV this was uncomfortable. The car park was way to small and getting parking was pure luck.

Perfectly located on the main street close to all local amenities. Hotel staff can't do enough to help, food is made to order with plenty of choice. Room is very clean and tidy with coffee making facilities. Pictures are from room window
We stayed in Room, overlooked the main entrance of the hotel where people sit outside for drinks, very noisy in the evenings when the weather is nice. Make sure you close the curtains when getting changed as the window is clear and frosted enabling people from the main road to view. No Air Con, they have an electric fan available, but not much use on a warm night.

The location was ok as it wasn't too far from a wedding venue we attended,so that was ok. The whole place looked clean and tidy and our room looked clean too, with excellent facilities for making hot drinks and there was a nice couple of biscuits. All very nice but what made our stay exceptional was the full English breakfast that was included in the price. We didn't have to wait long to order and there was plenty of fresh drinks provided as we got to our table. The full English breakfast was delicious..... I would and will be recommending this place to all my friends and family.

The hotel was very central, the room was beautiful clean and very comfortable. There was a lovely little courtyard at the back where we were able to have drinks and our evening meal (the weather was particularly good for sitting outside). The staff were lovely and we really enjoyed our short stay.
The only down side was that parking was very restricted during the day. Wednesday is market day and it was very busy. There is a very small parking area behind the hotel, but spaces fill quickly. Later in the day it is possible to park out front opposite the hotel, as the town becomes quieter.

We didn’t like the outside when we it arrived as we thought the hotel would be small but on entering it turned out the place was like the tardis. There was a nice bar and restaurant area and a courtyard where you could sit and enjoy a drink. The room was clean and modern and the tea and coffee making facilities were most welcome. The hotel restaurant served some excellent food and the quality of the breakfast was 5 star.
The frontage gave a false impression that the hotel would be small, which it’s not but there’s not much they can do to change that. The pillows were too hard.

A great location for exploring Barnard Castle and the Tees Valley. The room was fresh, comfortable and easily accessible. Not much noise from the pub/restaurant at night.
I know restaurants can't possibly cater for every pallet and dietry need, but maybe they could expand the menu to include more grilled food? Lots of the savoury dishes included oil of some description which limited our choices. This shouldn't detract from the tasty, well cooked meals that we enjoyed. Unfortunately, there was too much light creeping into our room around the windows and under the door.

We stayed for 2 nights after a short stay in Durham. Great location for exploring the area, about 50 minutes away from Beamish. We stayed in the outbuilding called The Stables, over the road from the main hotel which was exceptional, and you can get parked outside, mostly in the evening when day visitors have gone. The hotel also has its own parking as well. The breakfast was excellent, really good quality, and we had a main meal here as well which was also very good. I would say the best place to stay at Barnard Castle.
