Very large king size bed, very comfortable. Spacious room with plenty of wardrobe space. Breakfast was good and plenty of it. Staff were helpful and friendly. Good location close to all facilities in the town

There is no car park but to be honest there is nowhere to put one as you are in a town center. We were lucky and got a space on the road very close to the entrance. There are no parking time restrictions on the road outside you just have to find a space.

We spent one night here and would be happy to return. The room decor was basic but it was very clean and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and despite the cold snap in the weather the room was warm and cosy. I had requested a room with a bath, and the water was hot and the towels were lovely and soft. Breakfast was good, we both had the full English. The staff were very pleasant and friendly, and there was a good selection of cask ales in the bar. It's in the centre of Barnard Castle and within easy walking distance of the Bowes museum, restaurants, pubs and shops. Long stay parking is a two minute walk and incredibly cheap.

No negatives!

The breakfast was excellent, cooked beautifully and presented. The full English breakfast was served by efficient and personable staff. Fruit juices and cereals were available for self service. Our room was huge with a four poster bed and a very large en-suite (with bath). There was a sofa and TV and hot drink making facilities provided with biscuits too. There is no parking with the hotel but there is, however, some on street parking.

Something which was totally unavoidable due to the historic nature of the building were the very narrow, twisting stairs to our room on the first floor, which I found difficult to negotiate due to my have limited mobility and, of course, there is no lift in a hotel of this age. Otherwise, this would not be detrimental.

Excellent value for money. Lovely historic building with cosy traditional decor, spotlessly clean. Room was far bigger than I'm used to in modern budget hotels. Bed was huge and very comfy. Staff are lovely and helpful. Breakfast was included in price, which was amazing value for money - cereal, fruit juice, tea/coffee, toast and full English - or any part of a full English you prefer, cooked to order on the day. Evening meals in the pub are also good value, good range of real ales. Pretty scenic beer garden at the back if you have the weather. Tea/coffee and biscuits in room replenished every day!

Nothing I personally didn't like. Lack of parking outside would be only minus point, but there's free parking a short walk away. If you have trouble with stairs this may not be ideal place to stay.

Staff really friendly, polite and helpful. Lovely spacious, light and airy room with a huge super king size, comfortable bed. Room was exceptionally clean with tea, coffee and biscuits as well as toiletries. It had 2 large sash windows looking out onto the main front street which was nice. Breakfast was lovely with an array of tea and nice coffee selections, cereals etc and a cooked English or vegetarian breakfast. The pub had a lovely atmosphere, nice beer garden and the open mic night on Thurs was fab with friendly people and some really talented musicians. Location is perfect with parks, woodland and river walks, the castle, shops, pubs and restaurants all within a few minutes walk. The pub and town was extremely dog friendly. Found a nice pub with a lovely beer garden at the 3 Horeshoes and the Coach and Horses and the fish and chips were really tasty from the Barnard Castle Fisheries.

Nothing at all, it was a perfectly enjoyable stay and we would definitely return

We were made very welcome on arrival and given complementary drinks. Our room was spacious airy and spotlessly clean, if somewhat old fashioned, but then this pub is several centuries old. The bed was large and comfy, with ample seating and storage. I will happily stay there again despite its limited facilities.

There is no lift and the stairs were narrow, which would make it difficult for those with limited mobility. The bathroom was large but dated, There was no car park so that parking was on the street or at near-by parking areas.

We enjoyed our stay in Barnard Castle. The staff at the Old Well Inn were friendly and very helpful. The room was comfortable and immaculate. The location is central for the town. We will go back to the Old Well Inn again and make it a regular place to stop over. We recommend it. Philip and Joan Forster, Kilsyth, Glasgow.

There was nothing we didn't like.

Massive room, everything matched furniture wise. Just made it look so good. Lots and lots of storage. Space for the dogs. Breakfast was small but good. Recommend an amazing Restaurant for us. Staff very helpful.

Bathroom looks a bit worn out. Just could do with a little attention regarding the woodwork. Very clean though. Did really enjoy my shower also.

I booked the twin bedroom with en-suite shower room for a winter's mid-week break for myself and a friend. On arrival we were shown to room 3, the twin room. It was lovely. Spacious, warm and fitted out with the most amazing matching furniture. Complementary tea, coffee and biscuits and two large white bath towels and hand towels. The room was quiet, spotlessly clean and fresh. I had asked for breakfast at 9am, but with a weather forecast of impending snow that morning over our route back home via Shap, We skipped breakfast and left at 8am, which was not a minute too soon. Hopefully when I next pass through Barnard Castle, I will have the opportunity to stay again. Highly recommend and good value.

The Owners Roy & Rima are such an amazing couple, they really made us feel special even though we were only booked for 1 night. The bedroom (en suite) was enormous, very quaint as you would expect from a 12th Century building (the beer garden wall is part of the old Castle!) but with all the modern amenities we needed! The food is outstanding & the beer & ale choices are plentiful. Wish we could have stayed another night or 2, there's a lot to do & see in this area. We will definitely be back but for longer next time!
