A Relaxing Stay with Outstanding Service! Royal Lodge is the perfect spot for a peaceful getaway, especially for long scenic walks—great for dog owners too! The food was 5-star, and the room and facilities were lovely, considering the historic charm of the building. What truly made our stay special was the exceptional service. Sally went above and beyond, handling everything from start to finish—Royal Lodge is so lucky to have her! She made our trip unforgettable. Highly recommend for great food, beautiful walks, and top-tier hospitality. We’ll definitely be back!

The property does not have a lift, and our room was located up two and a half flights of stairs.

Incredible location right on the river Wye and below the Yat Rock view point. The staff were so kind and friendly, accommodating and went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful stay. The bed was exceptional and the breakfast was probably the best full English I’ve ever had. Thank you to the manager especially for helping with our last min booking.

The hotel was perfect. Whilst I appreciate more hotels and pubs are becoming dog friendly it’s important the retain a high standard by not allowing the obsession with dog ownership and the entitlement to take them absolutely everywhere. Some humans have health problems and the risk they can bring can mean hospitalisation.

The location was a real surprise! Obviously we realised it was 'close' to the river, but we didn't realise how close! Absolutely perfect for exploring the surrounding areas, which are outstandingly beautiful. There is a surprise around every corner. The breakfast was good, with a varied selection of both hot and cold options, the evening meals were of a very high standard, and what I particularly liked was that we were able to choose from the 'Starter' menu and the 'Children's' menu as part of the main meal. There were lovely options on there, and perfect if you aren't such a big eater. The staff were mostly lovely and very accommodating. The hotel is very relaxing and great value, in fact we booked to stay an extra night.

If I had to say something negative it would be that it is a little dated in places, not that it bothers me one bit and doesn't detract from the stay. I think it could do with an update as it does look rather tired. There are a jumble of items and styles, not in a quirky way but in a 'that'll do' kind of way.

The setting right in Symonds Yat was fantastic. The views are excellent and it was very peaceful, almost tranquil. The dinner was expensive but very tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was also very expensive, so we got a bite in Ross-on-Wye. The wi-fi was not very stable. The weirdest thing was that you could have stepped through the window straight into a beer garden. Thankfully, there was no-one in it when we were trying to relax. Also, it is unusual to have to pay to have your car in the car park right outside the lodge, but the carpark does not belong to the lodge. You got a mighty £1 discount as a resident!

The bed was so soft and comfortable, we both slept very well. The shower had great pressure. The food in the restaurant was delicious.

The entry and halls and bathrooms were quite dated, with carpets worn, a smell of damp in some halls, old fashioned textured wall paper. The bathroom floor sloped down by the outside wall, combined with the lower ceiling for the shower here and slope of the bath I felt a bit uneasy standing there. The room was cold when we arrived, I know it was June so the heating wouldn’t normally be on then but it was cold rainy day and we’d looked forward to warming up at the hotel when we arrived.

A lovely location. Lots of walking opportunities and plenty of wildlife. Room very clean. Bed comfortable and shower was good. Coffee/tea/water bottle and biscuits are topped up every day. Staff helpful. There's a very good pub next door and serves excellent food.

Breakfast was a bit of disappointment. Very little choices. Two flights of stairs was a bit of a challenge for old people like us but probably nothing for younger people.

The property was cosy and welcoming with an amazing view of the valley and river from our window. The food was lovely in the restaurant and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful. We found the bed really comfortable and slept well. Good shower and separate bath in our en-suite. Proper bathroom, not a shower in a cupboard!

The only thing I mentioned at check out was the lack of plug sockets by the bed. (In our room, other rooms may be different) I know it’s an old property but that would be a good upgrade :-)

The location for what we went for was perfect right next to the canoe centre we booked at. Food was beautiful. Beds were comfy and clean.

Rooms need a bit of updating, old types sockets not many in the room, decor needs updating in the room we stayed in room 10 .. still clean just outdated. Price of beer was over £6 a pint. Cheaper to buy a spirit and mixer. Need more choice for food, was quite expensive but the food was worth it .. just not the option for general pub type food. Cheap and cheerful kind of menu.

We had an amazing stay 😊 Great location, beautiful & peaceful. Our room was upgraded free of charge before we arrived, we were given a larger room with a river view (highly recommended) Our bed was so comfortable. Hotel is more traditional than modern and was clean and homely. We had a drink from the bar (evening) and sat by the fire in the TV room - we found the drinks a little expensive. Breakfast is quite expensive too but very nice, hot and fresh, a full English AND a continental, plenty to eat if you can manage it. Two ladies on the main desk were amazing, friendly & funny 😆 all staff were very pleasant and happy to help. Would recommend this hotel to friends and family, great stay and great staff 🙂

Drinks & breakfast a little pricey.

Superb location and we were given the Oak Suite which was spacious, clean, had beautiful views of the area as well as a very large bathroom with a bath and separate rain shower. Staff were very friendly and the service was great. Perfect after along day of walking. We had dinner in the evening which was nicely presented and absolutely delicious. There was a nice selection of wines and beers.

Nothing. Not a criticism but info that parking is not included in the room price.
