Hollywood Mirage - Excel Hotels & Resorts

Excellent hotel with good clean accommodation, we booked 3 x 1 Bed room apartments and requested that they were together. The Hotel managed to fulfil this required. Each room had a sofa bed in the lounge area and a separate bedroom with double beds. The lounge has aircon, 2 x private patio areas and a kitchen area in a separate part of the lounge. The hotel is about 10-15min downhill walk to the beach and there are plenty of bars and restaurants along the way. The hotel is located on a hill. Others have described it as a steep hill but we enjoyed the slow walk back up and is more than manageable. There is an hourly free shuttle bus from the hotel (just outside) that drops you off to the beach and you can use the same stop to go back to the hotel later if you don't fancy the walk. We booked half board and there was plenty of variety at breakfast and at dinner. If you are a vegetarian, there are good choices but trying to work out what is vegetarian and what isn't is difficult. The hotel sent us regular WhatsApp message to see if we needed anything and when we messaged back that it was difficult to work out what was vegetarian food, they responded back immediately with the name of a dinner service staff that we can speak to who would then happily talk us through the options. I believe the hotel are working on making this process a lot easier in the future as all it really needs is a "V" clipped onto the relevant dishes.

Difficult to work out what was vegetarian and what wasn't with some of the dishes as I know from experience that sometimes animal stock can be used in the pasta tomato sauce for example.

The facilities at the hotel were very good, small supermarket, spa and wellness together with sports and leisure options. Our apartment was quite spacious and very clean as was the whole complex. It was well equipped with a fridge, toaster, kettle, microwave/grill and air conditioning. The view from our balcony was fantastic, looking out to the ocean and seeing the Bay of Los Cristianos and nearby La Gomera. The pool area was very good with plenty of sun loungers available.

The location of the hotel is on a very steep hill however, this was well offset by a free shuttle bus into Playa de Las Americas running until 6:15pm. Taxis late at night we’re readily available for around €8-10 return. I would have liked more space to catch some of the entertainment shows.

2 Nd stay and have booked again for next year already. Lovely hotel. Top of a steep hill but I actually enjoy the exercise up and down. Great activities by pool. Really helpful staff. Extremely clean. Choice of 2 pools which was great , one a bit quieter. Unfortunately the gym was closed but can totally understand due to covid. Felt very safe with mask wearing , cleanliness etc. Booked a studio which is very spacious , has good AC , and all the equipment you would need in the kitchenette.

Beds could be slightly more comfortable and only 2 singles available in studio but nothing that would put me off staying there.

The breakfast was great, a lot of food options. Also, I liked the location, even though it was up on the hill there was a nice view + it was quite, with no traffic, and no tourists.

While the food for breakfast was good, the drinks were horrible. I didn't have such a bad coffee and orange juice in a long time. Also, the breakfast was very crowded, it was difficult to find a table. The wifi was super slow. In the public area, it was ok but in our apartment, it was pretty much useless

It was short stay only 3 nights but I would recommended to everyone, half board: the food was delicious, every day something new in the buffet, good variety of food, it was great location, but be aware it's located up on hill so steep way back from Los Cristianos. Every evening was great entertainment with live music and amazing singers. John was great host so friendly and nice. I had good size room but we don't like the sofa we had for third person.

I was surprised that I needed pay for water in restaurant even having half board it was not included at all. So every drink cold or warm have to be paid by you separately. Normally tap water should be for free I guess.

for an unexpected holiday - we chose this hotel for the pool and value for the money... I have to say it was a good choice. great room, clean facilities, excellent pool area (2 of them), excellent staff. Everybody tried to make your stay comfortable, from reception, to the greeting security lady. The large pool area has a team of 2 dancers which are good, funny and make a great atmosphere there. If you're into more quiet relaxing time, you can go to the lower pool which is nice. The room had everything we could need, air conditioning is sufficient. Cleaning lady came twice in one week - for us was ok. The breakfast was 8 eur... it was enough. However, may I suggest going for a 14 min walk towards Pistacho coffee brunch bar - amazing breakfast - with very healthy food (also vegan). Overall, the location is not bad if you are not lazy.. 16 min on foot towards nearest beach, 26 minutes towards nearest enjoyable beach, and 40 minutes towards the beast beach (with sunbeds -Playa del Camison). You could have great running in the morning from the hotel for 2-5 km.. (returning is more difficult :) ) Taxi from downtown was not more than 6 eur, so this could be a great option for returning british happy people from the bars.. (I reccomend Haifischbar with amazing selection of best european bear - that is Belgian... (but it has all other types you can think of). In the end I would also point out the fact that the excellent little store inside hollywood complex has a lot to offer and at good prices..First time I saw a store in a hotel complex that didn't rip you off. As for what to do in one week - Teide excursions are unmissable in plenty of variants. La Gomera is skippable, while the excursions towards nearest little towns with beaches are really nice.

the BBQ evening at 18 euros I felt it wasn't worth it.. I was expecting something else.. food not really on my taste. However the entertaiment was nice, with a talented singer and the two own dancers - it was an enjoyable evening in the end.

The facilities within the apartment was of a high standard. Everything was clean on arrival and well prepared. When asked for extra's for the apartment, the management provided almost right away.

An apartment with a double bed was requested at booking, but was two single beds pushed together which was disappointing. On arrival, we were offered an apartment with a sea view under the pretence that it was a complementary upgrade for choosing to stay at that complex, but was then told it would be at a cost. My partner & I are Vegan's and the complex laid on a BBQ & Entertainment evening which did not cater in anyway for Vegan's which meant it was not a value event for us to attend.

Staff was friendly, breakfast was good enough, although I expected a bit more for a 4 star hotel. The Barbecue Evening program is a must, that was really great. Our apartment was spacious, featuring a huge balcony facing West, that remained in shadow until around noon (a fact that we really appreciated). We also liked the pool a lot, it had a pleasant 22-23°C. The hotel is a good 1km away from the shore, situated quite high on a hill and is visible from basically anywhere in Los Cristianos, so finding your way back home is quite easy. At the reception they were kind enough to organize our covid tests (antigen, for 30EUR) before our flight back.

You can lock the room from inside and if you exit and pull the door after yourself, then you need a long pin to hack it open from the outside... I think these knobs should be replaced with another type. Had some issue with the toilet tank refill, but we sorted it out ourselves.

Staff were excellent, went out of their way to do anything we asked of them. Despite it's age the resort was well equipped and was kept clean. We all liked the entertainment in the evenings and also enjoyed the free shuttle bus into town.

We went during a mini heat wave. There were not enough parasols around the pool, other guests stole ours when we went for lunch. There was no retractable canopy on the balcony which made it unusable for half of the day. You get the feeling a lot of money was spent on the resort when it was build in the 80s but much of it is now dated and whilst some areas such as public bathrooms have seen some improvement other areas have not.
