I had made 3 different reservations in Basel- Marriott, Raddison, and Hotel Basel. I finally decided on Hotel Basel. A choice I will NEVER regret. Fantastic location, two ladies at front desk, breakfast, and room with old rosemaling exposed rafters. We were there 4 days and enjoyed the four days prior to Christmas River Cruise MORE that the 8 day cruise! At 10 PM we were even escorted to tram stop in order to catch the tram to railroad station to Zurick and Lucerne and back. This saved us $25 and the desk clerk would not accept a tip. WONDEFUL PLACE to stay!!!!

It is a super central location, you really feel part of the everyday life vibe right after you step outside the door of the hotel. The staff in the restaurant and also at the reception is making extra effort to make you satisfied. The breakfast is not like in a 5* hotel, but I felt 5* because of the glutenfree options and how I was treated by the staff. I am very critical when it comes to cleanliness, and this hotel stole my heart. It looks like an old building, but the room and the bathroom was exceptionally comfortable and clean. Very very clean. Amenities 5* in the bathroom. I loved the chocolate bara that were waiting for me when walking to the room the first time. 😊 Lovely place!!! I 100% recommend the hotel.

The breakfast could have taken place in a less depressing, more of a sun-filled place then the basement in -1, but like I said, the staff and the treatment compensated the location.

Perfect location, straight in the city center, pretty easy to find and public transportation like trams are like 1 min away. I was traveling solo, so booked a small room for one person, but it's cleaned every day, bathroom is spacious and everything was as expected. Not a picky eater, so breakfast was fine, you can order omelet custom made or pancakes, or waffles.

Ordered pancakes for breakfast, expected to be at least couple of pancakes in a plate, but it was just one, with slices of banana, so it was kind of disappointing. not much to complain about otherwise.

Located in the heart of the old town, within walking distance from the marketplace tram station, the room was clean, comfortable and the breakfast was a subsantial buffet with option for eggs and waffles cooked to order. And air conditioning on a hot day was appreciated.

Like some other newer Europeand hotels the bedroom has panels that open up for views of the shower, and even when closed has view holes, so if using bathroom at night the light will stream into the bedroom through the holes. OK for a bridal suite, but less convenient for an older couple not used to this.

The staff is very helpful and friendly. From the moment we entered the hotel, we were greeted with a smile and we were given a lot of good local tips & recommendations for our stay. Hotel was very clean and rooms were spacious with a lot of room for luggage and wardrobe. In terms of location, it is within one minute walking distance from the famous Rathaus (The red Municipality building) and from there you can take the bus or trams to reach your destination. As a great benefit of Basel for tourists, you are given a free transportation card at your hotel upon arrival that is valid for the duration of your stay. Overall, we loved this hotel, staff was excellent and location could not be any better!

The staff (housekeeping and front desk staff, particularly Andrej) were really friendly and helpful. Coffee machines in the room were great. Bed was comfortable. Location was very good in the city centre, close to everything. Cute touches (cookies and bedtime story) in the room. Rooms were very clean and housekeeping helped quickly with replacing the soap!

Furniture and paint in the room was a bit old and stuffy, rooms were not that soundproof (could hear the person above and next door sniffling and sneezing) but seemed to be quiet at night. Additional pillows would have been nice!

The restaurant staff was unpleasant. We went to ask for a menu to see what we could eat and the waiter said they didn’t have any English menus and was extremely rude about it. Not impressed as one of our group had diet requirements that we needed to check the restaurant could accommodate and the waiter seemed to have assumed we couldn’t afford it even though we were guests at the hotel. Not impressed. Nice hotel but don’t recommend the restaurant

Loved the location and the room. Was surprised to find no water boiler (kettle) in the room but I asked for one and one was quickly delivered. Amazing. Loved the little touches like the bedtime story and chocolate left on the bed. Breakfast also excellent.

Was disappointed the restaurant wasn’t opened on a Monday for dinner when I wasn’t feeling well to go walking looking for food but the hotel is in such a great location I didn’t have to go far at all.

Super room, my favourite from previous trips.Wrll appointed, dark at night. Very proactive and helpful staff. The list of places open at different times during the festive season was really helpful - thanks Melvin. Also tips on where to run and getting about etc. Simple but good breakfast in a nice, calm room downstairs. Perfect location in Basel, for getting around, trams, walking, going for runs etc. Although it wasn't open for dinner of the time I was there, really like the bar in the Sperber, too.

Could have used some former pillows

Smack in center of Basel, very convenient. Friendly staff. They stored my bike (expensive road bike, so not suitable for leavign in the street) in the basement overnight.

The first evening I was instructed to leave my bike in the lobby entrance. The next morning a member of the hotel staff questioned me which of his colleagues had said that, as if to identify which colleague was to blame for a wrong decision - not very collegial behaviour.
