perfect location in the middle of old town. Close to museums, restaurants and the river. Great boutique style hotel w nice interior. Helpful and smiling staff. We loved our stay in Basel at the Marthof. Somewhat noisy at night from trams and partygoers but to be expected by the location and earplugs did the trick :-)

breakfast. very nice breakfast with a small but good selection. However, Sunday was complete chaos at 9AM. staff was stressed out and did not have a good attitude, too long lines, impossible to order egg and everything from eggs, juices, croissants were empty and not re-filled. Took forever in the coffee line. The other days were fine but avoid Sunday morning if you can. Seems they were not geared for amount of guests.

The rooms are eclectic, but exceptionally comfortable. The fee mini-bar (non alcoholic) was a lovely touch and very well stocked. The beds are great, but the only marginal criticism is the cheap plastic mattress protectors which are a bit less comfortable than the more expensive ones with a natural feel. Pillows are exceptional. Either soft, medium or firm (memory foam) options - this is a real detailed touch that actually makes the world of difference to me. The gym is basic but new, clean and functional - they have a portable AC down there which is really good, but could possibly be under powered if the gym was busy. The restaurant is really good as is breakfast. Best of all though is the location. It's right on the edge of the old town, and a 5 minute walk to its heart. The location is exceptional in terms of closeness to the conferencing centre on the other side of the river, and the restaurants and bars of the old town. Staff are very proficient and one or two were exceptional with customer service, friendliness and attention to detail. It's honestly hard to fault this hotel (and I am pretty picky). I'll definitely be back to it, and will 100% recommended it to anyone.

Mattress protector - needs to be less plastic and more breathable. This however is me being picky and it in no way affects my 10/10 rating.

I loved the front desk staff. They were very friendly. They even gave me an upgrade to a suite!

There were plumbing issues in the suite. I expect that water from either an adjacent room or room above drained into the plumbing in my room. There was a significant amount of water and soap foam coming up into the shower, the bathtub, and even the water in the toiltet was bubbling. The soap foam was pure white which to me indicated someone had drained a bathtub and the plumbing could not handle the volume of water and it found alternate paths to drain (my room being one of them). Nothing flooded....was just a shock as it made quite the gurgling noise around midnight and woke me up from my sleep.

Hotel is right in the city center, easily accessible. Very nice breakfast with extra dishes available free of charge. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The bar offers a nice selection of cocktails. There was a memory foam pillow in the bed. Very welcome, as pillows in hotels are usually rather bad (too soft)! Room has a mini bar which can be used for free (and is restocked every day). Finally you can eat the obligatory mini bar Toblerone without breaking the bank ;).

Excellent and very friendly and professional staff. Very nice amenities, wonderful rooms.

I had a room facing the side of the renovations which were carried out on a building across from the hotel. This made the room very noisy/ was difficult to sleep from around 7 am onwards and to have quiet time during the day. I would have appreciated being warned in advance that there are rooms which are facing a property in renovation, I would have either chosen a different hotel or requested a different room.

Excellent hotel, extremely centrally located with very stylishly designed and decorated rooms. The hotel's fitness centre and wellness area are also extremely stylish and include steam room and sauna, which stay open until 10pm. The hotel has a good bar which serves bar snacks and cooked food until 11pm (not cheap).

The gym/fitness centre is decent, though not outstanding (only one bench, no rack, space is a bit small, no exercise mats, and water isn't very cold). During our stay there was an extremely loud construction site right outside the window. Not the hotel's fault, but definitely affected the stay. Hotel could offer discounts while this is going on.

The fragrance, the smiles, the courtesy, the food at the Bohemia restaurant was out of the ordinary. The rooftop has spectacular views of the old city.

Nothing to write here because we didn’t find any flaws or things to take negatively in consideration. Märthof is a wonderful place and the best accommodation option in Basel.

The room was actually quite large by European standards. It was very clean and the mini-bar stocked. The 5th floor veranda is great for relaxing after a long day but you have to take your own drinks up there. Not a problem as the bar is easy to order from and then take the elevator up. The hospitality folks at the from desk were very friendly and equally informative. The location is also great.

Hotel and room were modern design and very nice. Room was nicely laid out and beautifully furnished. Breakfast was excellent. It included an omelette which was very well cooked. Hotel is conveniently located on marktplatz, within steps of the tram stop and in a very pleasant area of the city. Staff was friendly and courteous. Wait staff at the restaurant was likewise helpful and friendly.

Restaurant was very pricey and had some strange rules about seating.

Our room was very nice however we had no view due to construction next door and the noise of hammering etc, but with the Christmas holiday weekend we only had 1 day of work but if you are staying for an extended period of time you may want to request a room on the other side of the hotel if available. Overall, a very good stay , the staff. location. quality of service and food made up for this.
