Standing in reception at Mustang Blu you’d be forgiven for thinking you’ve stumbled onto the set of an Addams Family movie, written by Agatha Christie and directed by David Lynch. The space is filled with reconstructed animal skeletons, life-like taxidermies, and curio collections from a century or more ago – there’s even a harpsichord in the dining area. The music drifting through the space adds the David Lynch element; a carefully curated playlist that segues from haunting solo versions of Saint Saëns’ ‘The Swan’ to dark ballads by Nick Cave, instrumental-backed narrations by voices stained with years of whisky and cigarettes, and numerous other sonic rarities. The rooms themselves continue the theme. Angular walls, wooden floors and high ceilings abound, adorned with peeling paint and velvet drapes, and furnished with antique furniture, glass cabinets, old-world telephones, and a plethora of aged books. The bathrooms, meanwhile, feature marble floors and free-standing tubs fitted with Victorian-era fittings that actually work. The overall effect is of a place that’s rich in history, fit for luxurious living but not afraid to show its scars. Converted from a building that was at one time a bank and at another time an opium den and bath house, the Mustang Blu does not shy from its past but amplifies it. I’ve stayed in much more expensive hotels and they’ve all been very opulent, but opulence is easy – with enough money you can buy it off the shelf. The Mustang Blu offers ‘atmosphere’, which is much harder to acquire than opulence. You can’t buy atmosphere, you have to make it using a careful examination of all the senses Considering the rooms, the décor, the aromas, the incredible food, the well-educated staff and the over-arching authenticity, the Mustang Blu adds up to being much more than a place to stay. It’s an experience. Every visitor to Bangkok should adjust their budgets to allow a night there – or, at the very least, a meal.

If you like unique hotel stays, Mustang Blu is a must. It's like staying in a quirky museum that has all of the comforts of home. I booked what I think is their largest room- Room 201- because I'm a photographer and was obsessed with the space. It looks just as good in person if not better than the photos! The staff are super friendly and helpful- the breakfast is top notch- and you must have a meal in their restaurant. The food was tasty and the presentation was fantastic. Adding some iPhone photos to my review as I haven't had time to edit the good stuff yet!

There's really nothing I didn't like- I imagine the accommodation and restaurant would be seen as pricy to some relative to the rest of Thailand, but for me it was worth it to stay somewhere so unique. This one is really one of a kind.

theres a big chance that this is going to be my new favorite places in Bangkok. super cool central location in china town area. Building is an old bank and has an interesting history. the whole interior setting inside looks like something from out of a victorian era movie. staff was professional and welcoming. our Balcony room was fantastic, the big problem was that we only stayed one night. should have had the vacation to stay longer haha. loved the bathtub in tfront of the bed, and balconies.

its stupid to only book one night. do youself a favor and make sure you book at least 2-3 nights minimum.

Amazing and unique stay at this beautiful hotel. Hotel and room decor was incredible. Our room (301) was huge and we loved it. Also a small hotel so feels more special and not overrun. Some people complain of road noise but didn’t bother us too much. Staff very friendly and great breakfast. Food & drink in restaurant is incredible, be it a little expensive. Would def recommend and would stay again.

Only minor faults we found were lack of curtain on one window meant street light came through (LED screen outside) and lack of highchair for children made feeding little difficult. Both easy things to resolve. Also constant influx of influencers seems to be a hard thing to avoid at these places.

I love the design and all the collection they had in the hotel. It was thrilling at night, but really gave a new experience of staying in a “haunted mansion” or something. Every interior detail blew my mind and every corner became interesting spot to explore.

I didnt like the service. The receptionist was so slow and clumsy. i think he was not focused and not experienced. The breakfast also took a long time to come out, and the mixed up everyone’s choice. Most of the staffs were not that helpful and sluggish. the ceiling of the bedroom was also a bit creepy at night, accompanied by a damp odor and poorly ventilated space.

That's the weirdest nicest place I've been to... The style is unique. The breakfast is like a high class dinner.

You're feeling a little lonely / off anything else there.

You definitely feels like you are staying at some mid-century European hotel, or you are in James Bonds movie, completing a mission in France/Italy lol. Not something you would normally expect in Bangkok. The pictures didn't exaggerated, just exactly what it looks like. This place is very instagramble. The Staff are very friendly and professional. Breakfast is included, served like a fine dinning dinner, the portion, the taste etc. Restaurant is open to public I think, you would just have a dinner here instead of staying. Very unique and beautiful hotel to stay at Bangkok, would go again. BTW, location close to Chinatown night market, 5 mins talk, the night market at Chinatown is also a must try experience at Bangkok. There are quite a few high-class fancy fine dinning western bar and restaurant on the same street. The Italian place across the road of the hotel looks nice.

It is a little noisy, the traffic at night. The building used to be a bank, over 100 years old, the sound proof isn't very good. Plus the hotel design try to maintain this 17 century classic feeling, so the windows and doors are not those sound proof sealed ones like Morden hotels. They provided ear plugs which is very helpful, stopped 80% of the noise but still if you are very sensitive to sound while you sleep, maybe ask for room facing inside, not facing the street (then you won't have balcony tho and view)
