The location was fantastic. I booked a Studio River View room. It was spacious and clean. The pool was nice, although I only used it once as I’m not a real pool person. Included breakfast and other meals were very nice, with lots of choices… but I only eat Thai food when in Thailand! 😂 The staff were very friendly and helpful. The availability of scooter hire at the guest house was great, although it is only a very short walk out to the street for plenty of choices of shops, restaurants and bars. I was very impressed with the accommodation and can’t believe it is only 2 stars. I would definitely stay here again!

Nothing I didn’t like, really. Only issue was that the room uses a key to open the door, not a swipe card. The card for the power is attached to the key. Twice, I forgot to take the key with me and locked myself out but staff let me in, no problem. It might also be nice if there were instructions in English (maybe other languages) on how to use the TV and change setting for English subtitles etc. as the TV menu was all in Thai. Only minor issues… and I will just have to learn my Thai.

We were worried when we turned into the alley way in the dark but our fears soon passed. we were greated by the staff and from there all went well. The meals were great and not overpriced either. Our room was comfortable and spacious. There were only 2 faults. The timber floor creaked a lot (sorry for the people below us) and the pillows were a little hard, other than that a great stay. Will recommend it to anyone.

The Guesthouse was lovely. It was situated close to the train station, just on the riverside and you could see the sunset over the river. We also had a room with the riverview that was amazing in the morning and evening. The swimming pool was amazing, it was very nice to stary there and chill on some hot days. The rooms were quite big and clean. Restaurant was quite ok, food tasty. It had a lot of European/American dishes as well as Thai ones and quite an impressive selection of vegetarian (with some vegan) dishes. Breakfest had limited choise though.

Some of the staff were really nice and helpful, some were not that friendly. The materess was quite hard, but I guess that is the case in most parts of Thailand. AC in our room was not working properly during the last night, but we had no chance to say it to the staff. Deposit for a key to the safe was suprising.

A great place to stay in Kanchanaburi in a good location for everything . Rooms are very clean and comfortable, the food here is excellent they have a great menu with international dishes available too , breakfast is free for some of the rooms with a set menu , but also have bigger breakfasts available at a good price and delicious 😋. The staff here are very friendly and make you feel like part of the family , Patrick a Thai worker here is always happy and very helpful . There is also a great swimming pool here too which is great to cool off with plenty of new sun loungers . For me this place is a home from home I won't want to leave 😄. Thanks again to all the staff at Phongphen for making this place so good 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️.

perfect for me as a solo traveller..very helpful staff ,breakfast good, location to local bars and restaurants perfect within a few minutes walk..with no street noise to keep you awake, fantastic view over the river!,,not to far from train station, walkable. taxi advisable if you have lot of luggage...train to nam tok very cheap.. and onward to Erawan Falls (dont miss it!!)

Nice quick check in and a friendly welcome from staff. We liked that they had bus and train timetables on the counter and staff were helpful with transport connections. The room and bathroom were huge (we had a room upstairs). The bed was massive but a bit on the hard side like everywhere in Thailand. The air con was good. The shower had good pressure most of the time, I don't know if the water heater worked because I only had cold showers. The included breakfast was good and there were several options. The location is set back from the main street so you don't hear much noise from the bars. There is, however, a club on the other side of the river that you can hear from the balcony but not in the room and it doesn't go on too late so don't let that put you off. There are loads of restaurants, bars and minimarkets within walking distance. The Bridge is about a 25 minute walk but if you want to go by tuk tuk there's a lovely lady with a white Super Cub tricycle on the main road to the left, she's a gem.

Brown towels! The most unappealing of all the colours for a towel. The wooden floor was a bit creaky, we felt for our downstairs neighbours. The swimming pool was absolutely full of dead bugs. I could only stand to be in there for 5 minutes. It was a mosquito infestation and was incredibly unpleasant. A bit sad that we couldn't open any of the windows to let in some fresh air.

Very friendly staff at all times. The spacious room and a fantastic pool that is appreciated when you arrive from a long excursion.

We didn't like that they tried to deceive us, we wanted to go to Ayutthaya, trying to offer and saying that what they offered was the best way at 400 baht and we went on our own, taking approximately 3 hours, paying just 160 baht. And the mattress a little hard.

Perfect stay all round. The restaurant had a very extensive menu of all kinds of very tasty meals from Thai to European for very reasonable prices, all dishes were available. The breakfast included in the room rate has many choices as well. All staff were very friendly and efficient. The swimming pool was clean. Aircon in the Standard room in the Main Building was very effective.

Disappointing as there was ONLY a limited choice of Satelite TV channels for European viewing such as NO BBC World or CNN news.

The staff here is very attentive and friendly. My aircon unit started leaking and I was moved immediately. The location is excellent-at the end of a quiet lane but a couple of minutes walk to the tourist street. Make sure you check out the river views, very peaceful. The breakfasts are also very good with plenty of fresh fruit.

Nothing. Some have mentioned the amount of bugs in the pool and this is true but it seemed much better in the mornings (despite having no cover!)
