I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Akgun Istanbul Hotel, and I must say it was a wonderful experience. This five-star hotel may be located a bit far from tourist attractions, but the proximity of the red line metro station made it very easy for me to access all the main attractions. The hotel's janitor, reception desk staff, and bellboy were very friendly and made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. The hotel's interior is stunning, and everything was clean and useful. My room was spacious with a queen size bed and a small sofa. Even though I arrived two hours earlier than check-in time, the hotel provided me with complimentary tea and coffee while I waited. But the waiting time was only 15 minutes, and it wasn't a problem at all. During my stay, I found that the safe box in my room was locked, and I asked reception for help. The service man was in my room within a couple of minutes and kindly helped me with this problem. While I was out in the city, the hotel surprised me with a complimentary fruit basket, which was lovely. The breakfast was included in my room price, and it was an extremely rich buffet with a big variety of hot and cold meals. It was one of the most delicious breakfasts I've had at a hotel. The raw honey in the frame for honey with honeycomb was one of the most interesting installations. The hotel's upper level bar offers a breathtaking view of Istanbul, and although the swimming pool was closed for the winter, the lobby had many activities, including a barbershop and cafe. I plan to bring my family for reunion in a couple of weeks, and I would love to stay in this hotel for all 20 members of my big family for a week. The hotel's spacious rooms and excellent facilities would be perfect for accommodating my family, and I am sure they would enjoy the hotel's friendly service and delicious breakfast. Overall, the Akgun Istanbul Hotel is an excellent choice for anyone visiting Istanbul.

room was big with comfortable sofa, hotel is stunning clean, cleaners are exceptional, my room was left spotless every day. food selection at breakfast was absolutely superb

only the room service which was erratic, I used room service every day and every single time they forgot something, I mean every time!, and they had to go get the missing items even when told explicitly not to forget anything they managed to mess up. apart from that everything was good

Overall a positive experience, safe hotel, good location near public transport and enjoyed the hospitality of the hotel. - Check in was smooth with bags taken straight from taxi to rooms - Staff were friendly and happy to help, guest relations at reception for help and WhatsApp communicated to check in - Hotel accommodated our needs to have two rooms next to each other on same floor which was really helpful - Hotel provided complimentary breakfast upgrade which was a nice surprise and had a good variety. Mix of Continental and Turkey breakfast with plenty of space and eggs on request - Rooms which were clean, spacious and came with all of the amenities expected - Hotel also provided complimentary fruit and snacks in the rooms - Hotel has a Starbucks inside and a Turkish Spa / gym - Very convenient links for bus and metro at this hotel (2min walk) as well as 7 minute walk to nearest local restaurants. Quick to taxi via Airport (booked via Booking.com and had a good experience) - Shower strength good and warm. Easy to use. - Generously late checkout (12pm) with complimentary gift on leaving

An overall good experience, but there there four areas below which I would have expected of a 5 star hotel: - The decor of the rooms were a little tired and could be updated to become more modern. The main lobby is very grand and nice though. - No outdoor food is allowed to be brought into the hotel to be consumed (maybe due to security reasons?) - The room's amenities were not fully restocked daily, which meant that we had to request via guest services - Bathroom not fully soundproof with neighbouring rooms and also did not have a toilet brush. Hairdryer is old and very very loud.

The best thing was the Roof Top Cafe...the ambience and environment was very relaxing. The best thing was hookah after the whole day to relax and unwind yourself. The big windows and removable roof gave excellent wind flow and was very peaceful. Also, the swimming pool area was also good. A nice place to sit and relax. The overall hotel location is also good.

First and foremost....the breakfast was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT....when a hotel is catering to international tourists, they need to ensure that breakfast cuisine includes international dishes also. Serving only Turkish dishes was not a good idea and we have really hard time as it was not close to our taste. Second, the internet & a/c quality was not the best. Internet kept on dropping and a/c was controlled from backend...so always had to ask them to increasing the cooling during the day time as it use to be hot in the room.

the room was cold, the AC was not working on the Heat mode, it winter and that’s an issue.

The hotel is in a good location if you arrive by car. They have a safe underground garage and a metro station is nearby. The breakfast was very good. Mr. Orhun from reception was very kind and helped us with everything. Wellness is good and I had a very good massage from a lady named Desa. Next time we will book the same hotel without a doubt. Taxi in Istanbul is not expensive so for 50 lire you can reach Istiklal street or other tourist areas of the city. Great praise for the people who work at the entrance to the hotel. When we needed a taxi, the younger guy went out on the boulevard and stopped the vehicles to find us a free taxi. The service was 5 stars.

On the last floor, the hotel has caffe. Smoking is allowed but it's very cold (February) so we could spend more time there. If somehow you can heat more that space, I believe people will enjoy more there and leave you more money.

The staff was very kind and hotel manager very responsive to all our inquires.

The property has a lot of potencial but for the moment it’s fit for Arabic families, the Western Europeans will find the standards as for a 3 star hotel.

Room was big and clean.. Breakfast Was good and there was alot of choices daily.. staff was amazing and helpful especially Ebru & Erdina .. Location was good near metro station . It was a pleasant stay .. Recommended

AC! During our stay it was very hot and humid in Istanbul and the AC ingeneral in the hotel was not working properly .. But, as I realized in most of the places in IST , there was a problem with turning on the AC all the time and properly .. Wish this issue will be solved everywhere in IST .

The breakfast was delicious, large selection, everyone found something they liked. The swimming pool was clean and nice. Large nice hotel room, looks like in the pictures. The sky-bar had a roof terrace.

The wifi was horrible, speed test in our room was 5 Mbps (yes five). The location was just ok, it is very close to the metro, but you have to change metro/tramway to get to the sights. We wished the opening hours of the swimming pool were a little longer, it closed at 18:00. We really really wished there was a lock on the bathroom door :P

The hotel is 5*. Sure, 5* of 15 years ago, but still 5*. That means a nice big room, 5* service, 5* mattress, 5* breakfast. Only problem, the hotel is in need of a refurbishment, or at least a nice trough deep cleaning. The furniture is dated, the carpets on the hall floors are worn and stained, but everything is fully functional (apart from the AC but they fixed it...) Breakfast is really 5*, focus is on quality not just diversity. If only for that it's worth coming back. Management was customer oriented, they really did their job well. Location is perfect for what I needed the Istanbul expo. Havabus from the airport stops just at the steps of hotel. Metro which goes to expo and to Aksaray is just 50m away. Bus station with direct connections to Taksim and Eminonu just in front. Good restaurants nearby. All in all recommend it, for the right price. Paid around 90 euros for a single with breakfast and it was worth it.

Visited the rooftop terrace. Way overpriced food, I ordered the shish kebab (most expensive in the menu, like 3 times the price of the nearby restaurant, and got the smallest 2 shish I have ever seen, with like 30g of fries and 30 g of rice. Left hungry, it's a disgrace for any Turkish restaurant. Beer was good, cold, and reasonably priced. So go there but only for a drink, Location is very nice with very good service. They do not allow to take food to the room. First time I have seen this, but given the guests I've see, it kind of makes sense. Just found it odd. Staff helped nonetheless, they were very nice.
