I was most impressed with the staff, they could not do enough to help me whilst on my visit, a worker behind the bar called Kit went above and beyond to help me sort out an issue I was having.

No major issues to note.

The room was actually really lovely. Spacious, well furbished and very pleasant. The breakfast too was great. A really nice place to stay. Sure a bit dated in places but great value and I was very happy. Had a lovely walk in the morning too in the adjacent woods that was enjoyable and relaxing.

Main fault was the lighting in the room didn't work. The card holder in the room (251) to activate the lights was broken. No matter what I did the lights would come on and then switch off after 30 seconds. It was visibly broken and held together with tape. Unfortunately there was no one to report the problem too. I was able to plug the bedside light into another socket and get by, and make do with lights in the bathroom for 30 seconds at a time! There was on the desk to report this too either in the evening or in the morning at check-out. Tried in person, and on the phone and got no response. Also the health club was very very busy with many families and so decided not to go in.

I've used this hotel consistently over the past months, and reviewed it several times before. The Basingstoke Country Hotel is a pleasant, well run, comfortable establishment just off the M3, just north of Basingstoke. It is in a quiet rural location with rapid access to the motorway for onward travel. The rooms are comfortable, well kept, spacious and in good order in general, with good facilities. The hotel itself is deceptively large, running across several annexes from the main building, housing numerous guest rooms. Of particular use are on-site leisure facilities, namely The Spindles Gym, a well equipped, friendly establishment with good levels of equipment and knowledgeable professional, qualified sports fitness staff, as well as the swimming pool, sauna and steam room. The hotel has many external seating areas to relax in nice weather, including a landscaped centre courtyard as well as many social areas, including the bar and on-site restaurant of which the menu is varied and good value. The staff are impeccable: always very helpful and pleasant. There are various reviews of this hotel which are below the ratings I have given: whilst I am sure there are people who have had the occasional cause for complaint for whatever reason, this hotel has served me very well as a base for a long time, and should I be in the area again, I would not hesitate to book it again. Full marks to this hotel for effort, service, services, facilities, and assistance by very professional staff, in a very pleasant environment. I gave this hotel a 9 rating but it's just as easily a 10: what it is, is a good value, pleasant, well run establishment that is clean, comfortable, looks the business, and as a venue is very, very nice. It did me well for accommodation: read this review and have an honest opinion of a very rurally located pleasant run comfortable establishment.

There isn't much to say in this section at all save for an honest appraisal: the hotel is gradually being redecorated and upgraded room by room as the management see fit. As it stands the decor was well done in the first place, with good schemes in the rooms. Like many establishments, it could do with a little freshening up here and there, but you aren't paying for the Ritz. The only real thing to say from my perspective is that this establishment is following the general hotel trend of no inclusive breakfast seen so much these days. There are most definitely more pros than cons to this establishment, and I repeat, I would have no hesitation to use this hotel again based on facilities, comfort, location, and staff.

Room was old fashioned but definitely clean, had plenty of stuff like iron, coffee machine, fan etc. reception staff all very friendly. Lots of parking. Plenty of security about ensuring safety. Although the food not the cheapest it all tasted fresh and tasty. Overall would stay again if in the area as was a very good price for the room!

Some of the staff in restaurant very impatient, stand there waiting for you to pick, snatch the menus off you, then bring your bill before you even asked for it, couldve wanted another drink for all they know it’s as if they’re trying to get rid of you. Unuseable wifi but knew this beforehand anyway as read the reviews about it so not a big deal.

The staff we were served by at the restaurant -Vicky (evening) and during the day time in the bar area (morning Vicky and afternoon Janet) were absolutely lovely! Very helpful, friendly, professional and absolutely wonderful ladies! I think they really deserve a medal :) Hotel was really nice, loved the view to the swimming pool area and the only missing part was having opportunity to have a massage or maybe being able to buy a swimming suit on site (we didn’t know we will be spending a night here - so we’re unprepared) :) we will definitely be back as the hotel is great, with nice garden and lovely food.

Not being prepared for the swimming pool, but that is a “me” problem not the hotel :)

2 night stay as stopover to London day out, but chill time Fri night

4pm checking is rather late being as we have to check out at 10am!! Lady serving in the restaurant qas very miserable not smiling and quite curt, we were also not offered the dessert menu on Fri evening and had given impression restaurant was closing, then permitted two ladies to have dessert menu and to order. We thought use of swimming pool etc and WiFi should already be included in room price, but actually no worries as u suppose this is a farer way because you only get charged if you do use something.

The manager’s service was beyond my expectations. Went out if his way to provide me with a lovely room that was so comfortable and enjoyable to stay in. He went above and beyond on a very busy night due to Ascot races patrons booking in. I really appreciated the care, friendliness and service provided by all of the staff while I waited for my room. I had a late checkout and the quiet and peace was amazing! The grounds were lovely and obviously the whole hotel is being taken care of and refurbished so nicely! Even the security guys were helpful and very friendly. I would love to stay there again. It has history and elegance if it’s time. Absolutely loved my stay. Thankyou all so very much Much appreciation Caroline

We stayed for work, arriving at nearly midnight. We were still greeted with a smile, and the receptionist was kind enough to give us an upgrade. The price was excellent, in fact considering the room we were allocated was one of the prime rooms in the hotel, we felt very lucky, and it was just a shame we did not have time to enjoy more...with an early start next morning.

We did not have water on arrival, on our previous visit we did, a nice touch. The shower...was a struggle. The water temp kept changing, and the cubicle was small so very difficult to stand away from the flow. A couple of Groundhog Day moments...if that rings bells. Plus the shower head did not fit the holder very well, and fell out a couple of times. Small points in the grand scheme of things but disappointing. Checkout time is 10am, a little more time would be nice, 11am perhaps. As we arrived late it might have mattered more than it would if we had arrived at say 4pm

The room was better than the one expected-bonus for us. We ate in the bistrot in the evening; food was of a good standard and sufficient. Breakfast was really good - full english( plus stuff for veggies), good continental selection as well. There was obviously a contingent of asylum seekers staying at the hotel, but their presence was discrete and well managed- it would not put me off staying there again.

The air conditioning didn't seem to work, however we did have a fan in our room which was acceptable because it wasn't too warm. Other than that everything was good.

The staff are so nice and so helpful! They were always offering to help. My favorite was Kevin in the pub because I was there with a dog, and I couldn't go in the restaurant so we spent most of our time in the pub. He was very welcoming and we not only enjoyed the pub atmosphere but also the great food that was served in the pub. The location is so beautiful. Our room was spacious and clean. If I'm ever in the area I will most definitely stay here again. I loved it.

I wish it was a little closer to public transportation. But it was okay to walk a mile to the train. Other than that our stay was absolutely perfect and what a great value for the price.
