Breakfast was very good and staff always attentive. The building itself is exactly what you want from a really old prison, but inside they kept the right look with bare brick walls, but somehow made it very luxurious as well. Perfectly clean, well sound proofed, absolutely stunning rooms made up of 3 old cells knocked together. Free EV Charging in car park for upto 4 ev's at the same time. Great wifi, even in the rooms, with big tv's, coffee pod machine, stunning bathroom. Just a really great feel to the place of authentic original bare walls and tiny windows, with the height of luxury thrown in. Being able to walk through to the Bodmin Jail Experience and all it offered was really great too.

Not much to not like. Purely price of hotel is pretty high and that translates also to the restaurants. Cheapest one had the cheapest medium glass of Sauvignon Blanc wine for £13.50. Still pretty much to be expected.

Loved this amazing hotel, the whole prison has been transformed to a very high standard, one of the best we stayed in. The staff was extremely attentive, always with a smile and very accommodating in all areas. The room was superb. I loved the way it had been converted. We asked for a quiet room, and wow, u could not have been better, didn't hear any doors banging,or people going past, was perfection. Pillows were very soft, too soft for our liking, so asked for a 3rd, which we got very promptly, was OK. Bed, very comfortable. Maid, forgot to empty bins, or replace milk, ect, but not the end of the world! Will I return???? You bet, truly was an amazing hotel, and the staff made it a wonderful stay. Thank you all.

Pillows, too soft, but that's our preference. Champagne bar, was lovely but lack of atmosphere.

Interesting stay- this is a unique hotel with the preservation of the history well captured whilst allowing you the creature comforts of a 4* hotel. Easy to locate, Car parking was good, entrance welcome upon arrival was well received and super quiet (could do with some background music). The rooms are 3 cells into one: 2 cells make the bedroom and the final is the bathroom Great features maintained and although it can feel a tad claustrophobic, you do acclimatise after a while. Bed is comfy with good pillows/duvet Plenty of space considering Bathroom is huge and the bath was a good bonus Overhead rainshower was invigorating Really clean throughout the room Facilities: Breakfast - good selection for all tastes and hot breakfasts made to order. Continental selection available as needed. Dinner - did not attempt dinner due to schedule Service - Reception were ok, could be a little more aware of their surroundings and welcome people as they pass. Breakfast - a mixed result: pleasant to really good. Everything arrived as requested and was kept clean.

Price: Its expensive for what it was. Having stayed for 3 nights with a basic gym but no spa/swimming pool. Bear this in mind. Also the location is good, relatively central (25 mins to nearest seaside) and there are local shops/supermarkets and a few restaurants. But the area does have a reputation historically for the hospital and is generally a little run down. However, we did not intend to stay in the area, with pre-planned visits across cornwall with the family. So considering this, probably could have benefited from swimming, located closer to our designated area of interest. Would have saved the additional travel. So for avg. 240 per night, its pricey. But includes breakfast.

What an amazing place to stay: the building itself had been thoughtfully and tastefully converted into a beautiful hotel. Our room was spotlessly clean and we had everything we could possibly want. As the walls are so thick and the windows small, the air con was a godsend, keeping the rooms cool during the night. Thick walls also meant there was no sound at all from other rooms - the whole stay was so quiet! The staff were really friendly and helpful. We ate at The Bistro a couple of times, and although a little pricey, the food was good. Breakfast was lovely, with a continental style buffet as well as toast, cereals, pastries and hot options. The shower had excellent pressure and the cubicle was big: the bath was a good size too, and robes were provided. There was lots of storage space for clothes and cases: a kettle with a selection of teas and coffee, a small fridge with bottled water and milk and a plug for the hairdryer near to a mirror!! This is a personal bugbear of mine: I've stayed in so many hotels where the mirror is miles away from a socket so you have to dry your hair without being able to see what you're doing. Bodmin is a perfect hub for lots of Cornish attractions and the jail is the perfect place to stay. It's not often that we want to extend our stay anywhere, but we did here! We will be recommending the jail to all of our friends and we will be back!!

Leaving.

From check in to check out staff were great very friendly and professional service was great.the location is great easy to get to. Room was very modern and well equipped and importantly very comfortable. It is three cells converted to one room. Cell 1 is the bedroom with large double bed good lighting and power points a large wardrobe with a safe inside and a very quiet air con unit. Cell 2 is the living room with tv kettle table etc. Cell 3 is bathroom a good sizes walkin shower a bath and toilet. Breakfast was good with a fair selection we also ate in the bistro style restaurant and food was good and plentiful i would certainly recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Nothing to dislike about this hotel

-Impressive historic building with plenty of original character. - the whole venue was luxurious with plenty of added extras ( tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate/ biscuits/ toiletries). -Communal spaces and rooms were kept pristine by the hard working cleaning staff. -reception staff were incredibly attentive and knowledgeable. -plenty of options were available for breakfast and the breakfast team ensured that service ran smoothly. - the courtyard restaurant was a welcoming place and was incredibly convenient if you didn’t feel like leaving site. - the jail is in a great location/ base to explore all of Cornwall.

(only minor suggestions) - brighter lights would be helpful in the bathroom to allow for makeup application etc to counteract the lack of natural lighting. - smaller warm breakfast options e.g such as a bacon sandwich would be a welcome addition for those with smaller appetites on a morning.

It’s a beautiful building with such history. The ‘cells’ are amazing. Really comfortable and very clean. They are a little dark, but that suits the mood of it being a former prison. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The food is good with a good selection for breakfast. Would just comment that there are not many veggie options. The champagne bar has a lovely atmosphere and a good selection of drinks with friendly bar staff. For the amount of rooms (70) it is very quiet but still pleasant. This was our second time of staying and will be staying there again. Also love the Bodmin Jail Experience which is very well done.

Location. Bodmin itself isn’t the nicest of Cornish towns and could do with a little tlc

Having visited Bodmin Gaol (Jail) when it was just a ruin some years ago, it was astonishing to see the transformation into this beautiful hotel. The staff across the entire hotel were just superb and the customer service was and is outstanding! Rooms are clean and beautifully presented, the transformation from ruin to hotel has been sympathetically and superbly done. Bodmin is a great location from where you can begin to explore Cornwall locally and further afield.

Ordering drinks from the menu and told 3 times “we don’t have that, anymore” wasn’t the best of experiences from a luxury hotel. Thankfully the front of house team were apologetic and recommended alternatives.

Great initial welcome. Rooms are very comfortable and well designed. Hotel staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them, very professional throughout the Hotel team. Breakfast is very good, great enjoyable selection. Good products and produce. Lovely set up with self service along with a choice for hot food prepared to order per person. Good drinks selection. The Chapel restaurant is outstanding and the team who work there obviously enjoy greatly the working environment and all work very well as a team. The chef and catering team also need to be praised on the quality of produce used, presentation of food and overall service they are providing. The Cocktail bar is a must too, friendly knowledgeable bar team and welcoming well furnished bar area to sit in. The hotel renovation has been done exceptionally well but a number of original features also kept which is so interesting. Would also recommend that you visit the Jail tour and shop, again a great friendly team operating this and so interesting to look around. Would throughly recommend staying here, it is a great experience ***** we will return

A little added extra would be a coffee machine in the room instead of kettle for use. But this did not affect our stay at all and the selection of drinks was good. Iron and ironing board should also be considered to be in the room but again just suggestion and not affected on our stay.
