We booked here last minute & so glad we did. Lovely Lodge, dog friendly (they also provide dog bowls, bed & a chew) - our 12yr old Border Collie loved it here. We were in room 1 - ground floor room which was ideal. Room was spotless & couldn’t fault it. We decided to have an evening meal & we liked the concept that a minute up the road was their sister establishment’The FenceGate Inn’ The pies are beautiful, we ate in the pub bit as we had the dog but there’s a restaurant serving dinner. Then a nice walk back to Fence Gate Lodge. The hotel is a wedding venue too but music is turned off at midnight. We had a comfortable nights sleep. Breakfast was lovely & tasty & a good portion - again they catered well for our doggie & set up a table in a nearby room & brought our dog breakfast too. Thank you to the staff for your hospitality. We enjoyed our stay & will be back!

The evening at the hotel was difficult for to the behaviour of some guests. This was quite simply not for the hotel to be judged on. What I can say is that the hotel have been fair without question having explained what happened. It is on Thai basis I provide a good review. The staff were excellent, the hotel beautifully kept and the after care/management excellent.

The hotel is absolutely stunning, and the room was the most beautiful room I have ever stayed in. The bathroom was clean, spacious, and very modern.

I found some (not all) of the staff quite abrupt. I'm not sure why either - as I have impeccable manners and lots of respect for people. I treat people with a politeness that is rarely seen in this day and age, yet despite being this way it didn't appear enough for the reception staff who seemed blunt, unfriendly and unapproachable. I felt like I was judged and a slight inconvenience, having stayed there for an overnight stay for a family wedding. The staff in the kitchen in the morning were completely different though, and so very friendly and helpful.

Lovely Staff, very good standard of furnishings and decor. Very comfortable bed and spacious bathroom.

Soundproofing could be better, both from the corridor and window. It needs triple glazing for the roadside windows. Bathroom radiator was permanently on and extremely hot, I did report it. Breakfast is served in a small room that was a bit cramped. Didnt realise that the Fence Gate pub was not actually on the same site as the Fence Gate Lodge. Its only 100m away, but probably not ideal in bad weather.

The room was lovely we stayed in the junior suite, perfect night away for valentines. The staff were friendly and the place is lovely & clean would definately stay again.

The scambeled egg could have been done abit longer and the room was quite hot so opened the window but could smell the chimney it wasn't the nice coal burning smell either it smelt like something was on fire so we did get abit worried at one point but had to keep windows open because it was so hot. This is why I've given it a 9 out of 10.

Our second trip which speaks for itself - once again -wonderful staff,amazing room, impeccable service and very tasty breakfast. The rooms are very tastefully and luxuriously fitted out, with a bathroom to die for (great toiletries, robes etc) and a second to none selection of drinks in your room makes you feel pampered. They say you get what you pay for - Id say not always ...but in this case you very definitely do. If youre lucky enough to also be booked in at the white swan which is 20 mins amble away down into the village... youve hit the jackpot for a very special overall treat. Enjoy 😍

Really there is nothing bad i can say. There was even a birthday party booked in during our stay and yet the hotel managed this well so we were not disturbed at all.

We absolutely loved everything about this place from checking-in until leaving. Our dog liked it even more as he was spoiled with treats and a sausage for breakfast every morning. The room was one of the most luxurious we stayed in during our three week road trip through Spain, France and the UK and our dog had a bed, towel and bowls too. They even left a Christmas present outside our room on Christmas morning too! ;.)

Delicious breakfast! Friendly, helpful staff. Room was on the small side but had a premium feel - modern, beautifully clean and well decorated. Have already recommended this hotel to friends and will definitely stay again when over that way!

The room was beautiful and the staff very welcoming. The location was good for where we were visiting. Comfortable bed and great shower. Due to an early departure for a flight we did not have the opportunity to experience the breakfast.

A little expensive and a full length mirror would have been beneficial.

Perfect place and the hospitality were amazing. The lady on the front desk was knowledgeable of the area and she referred us to an amazing Italian restaurant in town. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic. Will definitely visit again.
