I liked the little extra touches: coffee bags not instant coffee sachets in the room; option of fresh milk in a litttle churn from the bar; good quality products (liquid soap, shampoo). Staff were friendly and efficient.

The first impression was the room was a bit small and disappointed that the window is too high to enjoy the river view. However, the room was well organised and equipped. I had problems finding the hotel because the bridge is closed. My sat nav would not accept the road was closed and lack of diversion signs. The web-site does warn the bridge is closed. I could have done with directions and/or map because I am not local.

A very professional, helpful and friendly team, all of whom impressed me - the result of a good manager. The room was very good, if a little cramped. It appears an extension was added at some time and as many rooms as possible were squeezed in. Even with that it was clean, attractive, has all the usual comforts and best of all, very quiet. A good, varied menu and excellent food freshly prepared. A very good full English and plenty of choice for dinner. Steak & Ale pie was top rate - just like home made and served with nicely cooked fresh veg. Nice varied wine list too.

Nothing I saw needs improvement,

The hotel is easy to find and has a large car park. Our room was on the small side but comfortable and attractively decorated, and we particularly liked the double shower, and the chocolates in the room when we arrived. The best thing about the hotel is the garden terrace next to the river, and we were lucky with the weather and spent a lot of time out there. The location is great - not far out of town, with scenic walks along the river in both directions. We stayed here to meet friends who live a long way from us, and we all said we'd meet here again. The staff were very friendly and helpful, though a little stretched at busy times. The food was fine - good choice of breakfasts cooked to order.

No orange juice on the breakfast buffet!

Excellent customer service from all staff we encountered! Special mention to Sean, the Assistant Manger. We had a small issue which he went out of his way to resolve. The riverside location is great, with good out door seating and very pleasantly decorated insides. The rooms were tastefully decorated with excellent showers and good quality, complimentary drinks & biscuits. Alcohol prices were pretty reasonable and the food in the restaurant was OK & quite fairly priced! The full English breakfast was great value, plentiful and good quality. The hotel was very clean thru out and our rooms were tidied daily. Plenty of free, off road or parking too! 100% recommend the hotel & staff and would definitely use again!

I personally found the mattress a little hard & the pillows a little soft but no one else in my party (7 other adults) had any problems with either!

Good location, pretty surroundings, plenty of parking. Room nicely decorated, choc on bed with handwritten welcome note appreciated. Bed was very comfy, powerful shower. Really good breakfast, one of the best I’ve had at a hotel

More staff available at reception, along with a few other groups/couples we waited over 10 minutes for someone to arrive at reception and start checking people in (the bell was repeatedly pressed) At check out again there was no one at reception and no sign to advice where to leave access cards.

Room was clean and modern. Bar and restaurant area light /bright , well furnished and clean. Plenty of room between tables. Outside seating area looked very inviting but the weather was too cold to sit outside. Garden was well kept and outside tables clean. Grass and flowers well looked after. The river and riverside walk were very nice to relax in the afternoon or evening,

As we entered the building to check in the entrance smelt musty/damp. The bathroom was very small. The room was smaller than we imagined and window high up so you couldn't see the river unless you stood up and moved the net curtain. We thought we would be able to sit and look out over the river but that wasn't possible. The menu was ok but we would have liked more choice for example , curries , pasta and salads.

The new management of the Riverside have really turned The Riverside around (judging by past reviews). The staff were extremely friendly, attentive and helpful and the food was superb. I particularly enjoyed the Farmer's breakfast! The setting is beautiful - lovely views of the river Trent and some picturesque and peaceful walks to be had along the riverbank and into the adjacent nature reserve. Truly a hidden gem.

The bedroom was well equipped with everything we could need. Very firm and comfortable bed too. But it did feel a little cramped and tight for space. Also would have benefitted from a luggage rack.

This was the first time we have visited the Burton on Trent area, we were very very happy with the Riverside Hotel, our superior room was a lovely spacious comfortable room, which was beautifully decorated, the bathroom was a gorgeous, spacious and curved room, which has the wow factor. The staff were friendly and helpful in every way, the food was delicious for both breakfast and dinner. The riverside setting is just beautiful from the back of the Hotel. There was ample parking at the front of the Hotel. We wished we could have stayed longer.

We couldn't fault the Riverside Hotel, it met and exceeded all of our needs and expectations.

Lovely modern rooms that are accessible. Spacious bathroom with both bath & shower. Great selection of coffees / teas in the room. On the second night we got locked out of our room around 1am (I think the key card was set up for only 1 night). Luckily, there was an out of hours number that we called and a really helpful staff member came out within 2 minutes to let us in and provided us with a new card, can’t fault the response, brilliant to have that out of hours number as saved a potential disaster!

The cleaners tended to start cleaning some rooms form 8am or so, so can be quite noisy in the morning as the doors weren’t particularly sound proof, but I appreciate they have a job to do and likely targets to meet so can’t fault them for that.

The room and bed was large enough to be comfortable. The bathroom was equally as large with an impressive bath and great shower. The room we were in was above the main bar / restaurant area so very accessible from those areas. The bar and restaurant are well presented and the morning breakfast was lovely. The location on the river if very lovely and although the weather didn't quite allow for us to sit out there for long it would be beautiful in the summer.

The room temperature was very cold when we returned at night, it's an old building so maybe we should have forseen this and ramped up the temperature before we left for the evening. The walls in the bathroom were starting to flake from the moisture of the shower and bath. The location of our room is great but if you're planning a late lie in, be warned that you can hear people entering the bar / restaurant area so it isn't the quietest room.
